Sherry and I can’t stop talking about how good the toasts were at my cousin Casey’s wedding in Dallas (Wedding Crashing pics to come…). There were five in total (two groomsmen, two bridesmaids and my other cousin, the bride’s teenage brother) and each was remarkably funny, articulate and touching. Most weddings are lucky enough to have one of those, let alone a handful. So in that spirit, we think this week’s prize from Mikasa Crystal & Dinnerware is quite fitting.
Mikasa’s been dishing out classic and stylish servingware for over 60 years (perhaps they were even on your wedding registry?) so we were stoked when they contacted us to offer up some free goodies for you our lovey readers. This week we’re serving up prizes to three lucky winners from Mikasa’s new Cheers Too line of glassware. Each set of four crystal drinking glasses features simple, modern designs that just make you wanna throw a dinner party. With lots of “beverages” on hand, of course.
- PRIZE: Your choice of the Cheers Too White Wine, Double Old Fashioned, or Highball Set of Four by Mikasa
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “I’ll DRINK TO THAT” and…
- BONUS QUESTION: Tell us about a memorable toast you’ve heard (or given!) and what made it great. We could all use a few good toastmaster tips, right?
- CONTEST CLOSES: Wednesday, August 26th at 8pm EST
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: Three
- PRIZE SHIPS: United States only this time.
- THE USUAL: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

the best toast I can think of right now is the best mas at our wedding, he made a mistake in it and said “bathroom” instead of “restaurant”

best toast was at our rehearsal dinner. my husband’s best man wrote a poem about us that was clever, beautiful, hysterical and heartwarming all wrapped into one. plus, he wrote it while busy in medical school. i had no idea he even had it in him! ;)

i have been eying up those glasses for quite some time!! i gave a fantastic speech (if i do say so myself) at my mom and step-dad’s wedding. i was her maid of honor and started the short, but sweet toast by making a joke and the audience actually laughed. by the end, they were all in tears….exactly what i was going for :)

At our wedding, my husband’s best friend (and best man) told a story about how he’s only recently learned what an iPod was…and this was in 2008. I love my engineering-geeky-sweet hubby!

We love Mikasa – so much so that we bought 16 place settings of the swirl white china :):)
I gave a toast at my best friends wedding back in June. It was unique because we’ve been best friends since we were 4! And we’re both 22, almost 23 now! How many people get to give a toast at their best friend’s wedding after nearly 19 years of friendship!!

My sister was my MOH in my wedding. Her toast rocked the house. She had everyone laughing and crying within the same 2 minute time frame. It was from the heart. I can only hope to give a toast 1/2 has good as hers when her wedding day rolls around!!!

My maid of honor gave the best toast at our wedding. I live in Nebraska and she is from Kansas. When we met in college we became fast friends despite our loyalty to different college football teams. I’m a Husker and she cheers for K-State. We would often wear our teams apparel on football Saturday and many people would ask us how we could be such great friend when we cheered for different teams. While we playfully took jabs at each others team, we didn’t let the school rivalry get between us.
She incorporated this part of our friendship into her toast at the wedding when she said that she knew I would always be a good wife and stand by my husbands because if I could stand by the Huskers and be a fan after the season they had I could stand by anyone.

The best toasts are those that have been at least somewhat prepared. I am all for being spontaneous, but there is nothing worse than watching someone nervous and unprepared for a speech!

I’m terrible at public speaking. I’ve only given one wedding toast. Afterwards everyone told me it was good, but I don’t really remember it because I was so nervous. Luckily there was no videographer…:)

I haven’t heard any good toasts, but the bad ones are when the speaker has had way too much to drink. So rule #1 for toasting, 1 drink to loosen you up, but no more, or else you might say something bad. =)
Michelle says
I’LL DRINK TO THAT brings to mind the musical “Company,” with Elaine Stritch’s showstopping “Ladies Who Lunch.” If you haven’t seen it, do.
“Ladies Who Lunch” is the most memorable toast I can recall.

I work as a banquet server at a facility that hosts lots of weddings so I hear some pretty crazy ones ALL the time. There was one who told the groom’s whole life story and took about 25 mins to do so, meanwhile the guests were starving!

The best toasts are never degrading, but have some well-placed humor. They speak of the past, but in context with looking toward the future and never bring up mistakes that leave the subject embarrased. Be classy! Always end with a blessing.
Youngsters, may your lives and marriage be filled with the same richness, warmth and tender touch that is indicative of your designs!

I was lucky enough to be able to give a toast at my best friend’s wedding last year. It was a funny, but love-filled toast about why she should ditch the hubby for me instead so we could forever continue to share clothes and shoes. :-)

The most memorable toasts I’ve ever heard were the ones given by our friends and family at the rehearsal dinner the night before my wedding. These toasts reminded us of all the great relationships we’ve made over the years. Old stories were shared. We laughed and cried and we felt very lucky. The thing I liked most about doing it at the rehearsal dinner is that it was a more intimate setting with your very closest friends/family. Everyone felt more open with sharing because of that I think.

At a friends wedding my pal’s brother Bob, who’s awkward anyway, was reluctant to give a toast. Bob’s a goofster, and as his toast approached, he reached into a bag and pulled out dozens of pieces of real toast – buttered to boot! He went on to explain that marriage is alot like toast – sometimes hard and sometimes plain, but it’s those moments where its warm and soft that make you feel amazing and that its no longer just toast, it’s amazing.
