Sherry and I can’t stop talking about how good the toasts were at my cousin Casey’s wedding in Dallas (Wedding Crashing pics to come…). There were five in total (two groomsmen, two bridesmaids and my other cousin, the bride’s teenage brother) and each was remarkably funny, articulate and touching. Most weddings are lucky enough to have one of those, let alone a handful. So in that spirit, we think this week’s prize from Mikasa Crystal & Dinnerware is quite fitting.
Mikasa’s been dishing out classic and stylish servingware for over 60 years (perhaps they were even on your wedding registry?) so we were stoked when they contacted us to offer up some free goodies for you our lovey readers. This week we’re serving up prizes to three lucky winners from Mikasa’s new Cheers Too line of glassware. Each set of four crystal drinking glasses features simple, modern designs that just make you wanna throw a dinner party. With lots of “beverages” on hand, of course.
- PRIZE: Your choice of the Cheers Too White Wine, Double Old Fashioned, or Highball Set of Four by Mikasa
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “I’ll DRINK TO THAT” and…
- BONUS QUESTION: Tell us about a memorable toast you’ve heard (or given!) and what made it great. We could all use a few good toastmaster tips, right?
- CONTEST CLOSES: Wednesday, August 26th at 8pm EST
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: Three
- PRIZE SHIPS: United States only this time.
- THE USUAL: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

I’LL DRINK TO THAT! I heard a father of the bride toast that started out sounding like the father was going to list all of the bride’s annoying qualities but turned into the sweetest toast ever….glad we were wrong about the beginning!

I remember attending a good friend’s wedding, and the matron of honor left her speech at home, and panicked most of the afternoon knowing she didn’t have time to go get it and return in time for the wedding. My sister found a beautiful card, and rewrote it on a blank index card during the service, and matron of honor had her speech. . . courtesy of Hallmark.
It was beautiful. No one was the wiser. It sounded just like what should’ve been said, even with MONTHS to prepare. My sister and I just laughed our butts off, knowing she was reading a Hallmark card.
Hey. . . when you CARE ENOUGH TO TOAST THE VERY BEST, right!?!? LOL!!!!

At the wedding I attended Saturday, the matron of honor gave a toast that listed her wishes for the couple. It was simple, personal and very touching.

I don’t know if the toast I gave at my best friend’s wedding was all that great, but I started tearing up even before I began the speech. We’d been friends since kindergarten and she was basically my sister, so it was special!

Was just at a wedding this weekend where the best man made the most hilarious speech—best part was when he made some hilarious jokes about the the huge size of the bride’s family compared to the groom’s (180 vs. 8). Got everyone laughing.

My father in law is the ultimate toast master. He gives a toast a nearly every meal, even when we are having bagels at Brueggers on Sunday mornings.

The best toast to date is one that my Maid of Honor gave at our wedding. Here’s the background on it… Shortly after my huband and I met he helped me move to my new apartment. During the move, he and I were on the hydraulic lift of the moving truck placing a dresser into the back. When the left went up his foot was accidentally hanging slightly off of it and the tip of his second toe was clipped off. That day at the ER was our “first date” and everyone jokes that it was my fault.
So, her toast went as follows:
Meeting each other at a bar when you both were just supposed to be wingmen $250
Finding out that coincidentally you shared mutual friends and a love for music $350
Helping her move into her apartment a week later $450
Marrying the chick that cut your toe off PRICELESS!

The best toast I’ve ever heard was from my own wedding 3 months ago. My husbands brother was the best man and his speech said, “This is my brother Rick, he’s been a good brother ::pause:: I’m hungry lets eat.” No one has let him live that speech down since then.

My favorite toast was from our wedding! My husband has 3 best friends and couldn’t decide on a “Best Man” so he had 3 Groomsmen. During their toast, they brought out a timer and exclaimed that since my husband couldn’t decide on a Best Man, they would rotate their seats every 15 mins to give each man equal time to sit in the Best Man seat (i.e. next to my husband). True to their word, every 15 mins the timer would go off and the men would rotate, no matter what!

At our wedding, my husband’s brother did a great job with his best man toast. He ended it with an Ogden Nash quote: “To keep your marriage brimming with love in the wedding cup, whenever you’re wrong, admit it; whenever you’re right, shut up.” HA.

Right before my wedding I pulled together all of my girlfriends for a low key luncheon. One of my bridesmaids gave this toast: “Here’s to the men of our past and alcohol; but more importantly, here to the girlfriends who have been there to pick us up when both have made us hit the floor.” It was the perfect combination of sentiment and comedy, but also reflected so many good and bad times shared with friends. Feel free to use…

The toast I’m looking forward to will come on September 18th when I close on my very first house! It will go something like this:
“Cheers to Mikasa for providing their beautiful Highball glassware to use as we welcome Kim into her very first home!”

I’ll drink to that! (Most definitely.) My husband & I got married just a few months ago, and I loved the toasts that our respective parents gave–especially when both of my parents mentioned (separately) that they already considered my husband their son. I think the only tip I have would be to have it come from the heart–but that’s an obvious one, eh?
In relation to the giveaway, oooh! My husband would be ecstatic if I (we) won the highballs, since he’s pretty bummed we don’t have any.. haha.

Hit these points and it’ll always be good:
At my friend’s wedding, her (now!) husband read off a list of guests’ names, and asked them all to stand up. Once they were standing he said that all of these people had, at one point or another, taken him aside to remind him how special his new bride was and sternly warn him that he was to treat her well. He told them all that he’d taken their words to heart, and promised to always treat her as well as they and he believed he should. He then asked them to continue to watch over their marriage the way they had their courtship. It was perfect.

Love these glasses! I have seen similar ones when I browse the the department stores and they always catch me eye…
My hubby is the best at toasts…we have had so many friends and family get married in the last few years that he has given quite a few. I stand up and stammer and stumble all over the place, but he is confident, articulate and the best at winging a great toast/speech. Glad one of us is, and I will continue to defer to him…

The best toast I heard was incredibly heartfelt – at a wedding, the best friend of the bride – remarking upon how she remembered knowing her for so long, remembering the days when the bride thought she’d never meet the right guy, and finally being married to the right guy…

my brother in law’s toast at our wedding including the story about our poor little italian greyhound escaping (thanks to one of the groomsmen) 3 days prior, and how we walked miles posting posters all over the city looking for her, and nearly cancelled the wedding! Luckily she was miraculously found (another long story!) and things went as planned. He even had a saved poster which he held up at the wedding from the traumatizing incident!

I have heard many great toasts but the most memorable are always given by one particular friend of mine. He has had the great fortune of being the best man or groomsmen in many weddings and has become quite infamous for his toasts. They are sure to include some inappropriate comments about either the bride or her mom (or the groom’s mom) or both! The first toast he gave, as you looked around the room people were glancing around nervously, some with their heads down – now we all look forward to hearing his toast-especially the brides!

At our wedding my husband’s brother was the best man and gave our toast while a little toasty from our signature drink. He mentioned how my husband and his best friend (another groomsman) had met because they both dated my husband’s ex-gf. He made my husband’s friend stand in the middle of the speech while he told the story – he was beet red. You would think I would be mad, but it made he laugh as he just did it all off the top of his head. We talk about it all the time because other than that part, he did a great speech while schmammered.

Oh i’m so excited, I LOVE the Double Old Fashioned. I’ve been watching alot of Mad Men lately and these would be perfect!
Best toast would be at my cousin’s wedding. Her maid of honor asked the groom to place his hands on top of her hands and she then proceeded to say…”Mel, this will be the last time in your life that you will have the upper hand.”
CLASSIC, the room laughed so hard.
Thanks for the chance to win!

My brother-in-law gave a fantastic toast at our wedding. Witty, heartfelt, and (relatively) short!
The worst toast that I ever heard was from a drunk best man at a wedding that said he had the mic and was going to talk for at least 20 minutes….and he did. It was painful!

At my sister-in-law’s wedding, my father-in-law made it clear that even though he and his wife felt that they did the best job they could raising the SIL, it still was not enough, and thankfully someone was willing to take her off of their hands (flaws and all).
You can learn a lot from the toasts you would never want to repeat.

As the maid of honor, I never practiced or thought about what I was going to say at my best friends wedding. Instead, I said what I felt at that exact moment and how happy I was for them. I don’t think its something you need to rehearse, just speak from your heart.

Instead of each bridesmaid giving an individual toast, my friends and I have started a tradition of writing and reading a poem about our girlfriends. We start the poem writing about high school memories and lead into current day. We’ve had MANY laughs writing and reading these poems and our friends end up with a little gift of poetry in the end!
