Random.org once again spun its wonderful wheel of randomness and selected our two winners as… Amy @ Larryspearslive.com and Amanda Deerr. Congrats ladies!
Raise your hand if you want a $50 Lowe’s gift card. Or better yet, give me a “hootie hoo.” And if the thought of being one of two lucky winners doesn’t instantly get your brain spinning with all of the potential projects that you could tackle, Lowe’s Creative Ideas will happily fill your head with… wait for it… creative ideas. You may already know of the free Lowe’s Creative Ideas magazines (if not, you can subscribe to ’em here), but even we didn’t realize how much content they have on their website and Facebook page. And along with bigger building and DIY ideas they’ve also got decor tutorials (like stamping curtains) and crafty stuff (like making silhouette art) too.
- PRIZE: A $50 gift card to Lowe’s courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas

The only thing I can think of is my idea of putting my rolled up dish towels in my rarely-used trifle bowl. Makes them easy to grab and adds some color to the kitchen.

We just found out we need to move, in 6 weeks, and I have been going crazy trying to figure out where to put our spare dresser we will have no room for in our new one bedroom apt. Lightbulb! Paint it and add some legs to create an awesome buffet for the dining room. Right now this has become my all-time most creative idea!
And the giftcard would pay for the supplies I need to make it happen, hootie hoo!!

Idea Me! and a hootie hoo! best idea ever was to put a computer in my kitchen. (I know, SO behind the times) Now my kids do online preschool and I can stay with them AND do the dishes…

Creativity in DIY isn’t my strong suit, but I bet this magazine can help me fix that. :)

IDEA ME! My most creative idea was turning the useless old sleeping porch on our 150 yr old home into a master bath and closet. Its awesome!
Darlene R. says
IDEA ME! I hated taking the dog out but could not let her out without a lease. So my bright idea was to install a tie out stake just outside my door with a tie out cable. All I had to do was clip it on her collar and she did her business and barked when she was ready to come inside.

I am getting creative in the kitchen this summer by canning vegetables from our garden and turning them into cute home-made holiday gifts.

My best idea, as of recently, was to buy one of those cubical organizer things from Target to house our kids’ miscellany outdoor clothing items. I bought the one that has six cubes. Each of our kiddos have two cubbies with the fabric bins. In each column, their top bin has hats/gloves/sunglasses in it and their bottom bin houses all their shoes. One top of their respective ‘columns,’ they have all their colorbing books and a basket that has all their drawing shtuff (paints, crayons, pencils, pens, scissors, etc…. but no glue. i’m not ready for that to be readily available to them, hehe).

Culinary: Bacon Wrapped Cheese – the tasty product of college students being hungry and that was all that was in the fridge at 2 a.m. (Small town college girl here).
Otherwise: I created and envelope template and used my leftover scrapbook paper to create envelopes for my moving announcements. It helped me corral the clutter and everyone keeps saying how cute they are.

Creative – I go grocery shopping… and put the meals on our chalkboard in our kitchen. and I let the kids decide what they want to eat that night for dinner from the list. :)

Since hanging photos and my daughter’s artwork in the playroom leaves pinholes and marks on the wall (and since we change said hangings multiple times a year) I decided to hang one line of twine (like a clothes line along all four walls) and hang artwork and pictures with clothes pins. This way there are minimal pin holes in my walls and I can hang up the most recent artwork without a hammer!
Also, I take older artwork and put it into a photo album/scrapbook with plastic pages to preserve everything!

IDEA ME! Pinterest makes me feel like I have creative ideas but I have yet to make any of them happen! I need another Pinterest challenge! :)

IDEA ME! My most creative solution was probably repurposing and tweaking an old medicine cabinet to put in my craft room to store my paper punches. It’s the perfect depth, keeps them from getting dusty, and I can open it up and see everything at once. Love it!

I decided to rearrange my living room and needed a new tv stand to fit in the new location. I couldn’t find anything that met my needs and fit in the budget. I found a photo of a very expensive piece that I loved so I took apart my old Ikea Markor bookcase and turned it into a similar tv stand with only the purchase of one piece of wood and some hardware. I used almost every piece of the bookcase, even some of the shelves as doors. It looks great and suits my needs!

Two ideas, both related to my late husband:
1) Built the base of his wheelchair ramp out of Trex, rather than traditional salt-treated lumber (used it for the rails, since at the time they weren’t making Trex rails, although I plan to replace them in the future)
2) Put up beadboard in his bathroom and painted it dark blue (a color pulled from his shower curtain) to hide scuff marks from his wheelchair

I’m not sure it’s my most creative idea ever, but recently I realized that the big wood cutting board in my kitchen, while always seeming like a necessity, was hard to use, harder to clean, and took up about half my precious tiny-kitchen counter space. I decided to get rid of it and replace it with three smaller, dishwasher-safe plastic cutting boards that lean against the wall when not in use and I am so much happier!! I had (and hated) the big wood board for years, so it felt like a major breakthrough to me!

Most appreciated creative endeavor to date: My sisters and I painted wooden spoons to represent each member of our family (including pets). My mom cried when she got them and had my grandfather custom design a mirrored shadowbox for them. It’s still hanging in her kitchen 10 years later.

Call me old-fashioned or even cheap, but I LOVE line-dried clothes (for a lot of reasons – but mostly because line-drying reduces energy costs from running the dryer & it doesn’t wear out your clothes as quickly). My only complaint when I switched to line-drying clothes was that they dried so wrinkly! I hate to iron…. so I discovered if I put my wet clothes in the dryer for a few minutes – just enough to get them hot (but definitely still wet) – and then take them out & hang them immediately, most of the wrinkles fall out! I usually do little batches so that an entire load of laundry isn’t sitting in the dryer waiting to be hung (b/c then you run into the wrinkle problem again), but this little method revolutionized my laundry routine!

I feel like I’m not the most creative person by nature (that’s where YOUR blog comes in for inspiration) but I recently took all of my race bibs and t-shirts and made a framed collage of sorts. Not only was I really proud of how it looks aesthetically but it’s a great daily motivation reminder!

IDEA ME!
I was doing a little front porch spruce up this weekend, which included painting the front door. The brass kickplate was looking all tarnished and beat up, and I wasn’t looking forward to trying to clean and polish it. I was thinking I’d have to make a run to Lowes for some spray paint or something to salvage it, but after removing it I realized all I needed to do was turn it over. The backside looked brand new!
Not sure if that qualifies as a creative solution or just a “duh” moment. LOL
