***This giveaway is no longer expecting entries – see who won below!***
Random.org once again spun its wonderful wheel of randomness and selected our two winners as… Amy @ Larryspearslive.com and Amanda Deerr. Congrats ladies!
Raise your hand if you want a $50 Lowe’s gift card. Or better yet, give me a “hootie hoo.” And if the thought of being one of two lucky winners doesn’t instantly get your brain spinning with all of the potential projects that you could tackle, Lowe’s Creative Ideas will happily fill your head with… wait for it… creative ideas. You may already know of the free Lowe’s Creative Ideas magazines (if not, you can subscribe to ’em here), but even we didn’t realize how much content they have on their website and Facebook page. And along with bigger building and DIY ideas they’ve also got decor tutorials (like stamping curtains) and crafty stuff (like making silhouette art) too.
- PRIZE: A $50 gift card to Lowe’s courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “IDEA ME” and…
- BONUS QUESTION: … tell us about your all-time most creative idea. Was it an awesome solution to an everyday problem? A delicious spur-of-the-moment recipe? An ingenious fix to home decor dilemma? Maybe you’ve just stumbled upon a simple household trick that makes your life easier (like letting the dog eat scraps around the highchair instead of vacuuming)?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 14th at 8pm EST
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
- PRIZE SHIPS: The 50 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

the most creative thing i’ve done is the diy stuff for our wedding…table centerpieces, ailes runners, my own flowers, etc…

Idea me! I come up with creative decorating ideas all the time, and I know they’re good when my husband acts like they’re crazy and hesitantly says “I like it if you do…”

In our last rental home, the dining room was right next to the narrow galley kitchen, and there was no place to put our nice huge/tall trash can. And having it sit in the dining room (smelling funky) just wasn’t doing it for me anymore. So I gave that trash can to my parents, and got a hanging basket trashcan that hangs off the cabinet door under the kitchen sink. Outta sight…outta mind…outta smell!

IDEA ME! When my dad was remodeling an office with his business, all of the cabinets, office furniture etc that was not auctioned was going to be tossed or donated. We grabbed fast! So our garage has cabinets, counter tops, etc. Get organization!

During a total gut-job kitchen reno, we relocated our sink to an outer wall, which necessitated the removal of a sliding glass door. This created a dilemma, in that we now had no access to the back yard. In order to let our dog out to do his business we put a PlaySchool sliding board outside our dining room window. When the dog had to go out, we would open the dining room window, put him on the sliding board and he would slide down! When it was time to come back he would run about half way up the sliding board and i would have to grab him to bring him back in thru the window. I still laugh when I think about this very crazy but necessary invention.

I’d say my most creative moment was when I built furniture I couldn’t afford… out of cardboard! I successfully made a chair that you could actually sit on, and a bedside shelving unit! :D

I’d say my most creative thing I’ve done is take my bright orange fireplace and turn it to a dark chocolate brown. Much better to look at.

I’m not a very creative person, but my husband makes up for that. He created a pot hanger out of a tube he bought at Lowes for 10 bucks and some hooks! It’s now between two cabinets and looks very nice! :)

I cater cupcakes at events and parties, etc. I often need a menu, which drives my anal retentive self wild as I bust out fancy papers, scissors, glue, paint, you name it… But I do so many events, it just seemed insane to be making a new menu every time. Until I saw this on pinterest: http://lovebeinginthekitchen.blogspot.com/2011/02/menu-board.html
I now have a decorative frame with a cute fabric or paper backing I can change out… and a big, fat dry erase marker to write on the glass. Genius. Too bad it came from someone else. But hey.

One of my best money-saving ideas has been to use only half a a dryer sheet when drying clothes. My laundry can’t tell the difference!

using a groovy old dresser that we inherited as a media stand. we still use two drawers as storage for items in the living room, but I removed one drawer to house our components, stacked nicely in the middle…then added a dvd basket on each side to hide our movies, plus the natural material looks so nice next to the dark wood. fits perfectly and I’ve received lots of compliments. :)

IDEA ME! I’m still surprised by how much storage we got by putting big bookshelves in our small apartment dining corner! I’m in the process of making two fabric panels to cover the lower two shelves for concealed storage!

IDEA ME. I found these really cool antique painted ceiling tiles in a thrift store. I didn’t know what to do with them. then i realized we could cut the center tile out and break it into two. we backed them with mirrors that we already had. voila! perfect decor. see it at http://afabulesshome.blogspot.com/2011/07/ceiling-tile-mirror.html

IDEA ME! I saw an outdoor lantern in the perfect orange color. I’d been searching for the perfect light fixture for the entryway but let’s be honest my favorite fixtures were WAY out of my budget. With a little McGyvering I turned it into a light fixture and I love it.

IDEA ME! Rather than spending a ton of money paying someone to drywall part of our crumbling bathroom walls in our historic bungalow, we decided to use wainscoting instead and it looks amazing!

My most creative idea lately was in regards to the really hideous plastic dog kennel that I refused to let “ugly up” a corner in my new home. Simple solution: a metal, flat-folding crate. It stays under the couch whenever the pup isn’t in it – problem solved!

One of my most creative ideas was creating a baby book/scrapbook for my sister’s first born. I recreated pages you see in a traditional baby book but left room for other things too. I added divided page protectors, so that she can just stick photos in without thinking about it and I provided envelopes, etc.
