Random.org once again spun its wonderful wheel of randomness and selected our two winners as… Amy @ Larryspearslive.com and Amanda Deerr. Congrats ladies!
Raise your hand if you want a $50 Lowe’s gift card. Or better yet, give me a “hootie hoo.” And if the thought of being one of two lucky winners doesn’t instantly get your brain spinning with all of the potential projects that you could tackle, Lowe’s Creative Ideas will happily fill your head with… wait for it… creative ideas. You may already know of the free Lowe’s Creative Ideas magazines (if not, you can subscribe to ’em here), but even we didn’t realize how much content they have on their website and Facebook page. And along with bigger building and DIY ideas they’ve also got decor tutorials (like stamping curtains) and crafty stuff (like making silhouette art) too.
- PRIZE: A $50 gift card to Lowe’s courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas

IDEA ME! Best idea was quite some years ago (I’m pretty old now) to add trim pieces to build up a pressed wood cabinet, followed by paint. It looks like quite the nice piece of furniture now considering it’s humble roots. At the time I thought I was quite inventive and creative.

One of the the most useful ideas that I’ve had was to use an over the door shoe organizer on the inside of my hall closet. This allows me to keep the small stuff from cluttering my shelves and makes it all very visible and easy to find!

Other than new creative cupcakes Ideas – my most creative moment lately was converting a old used dresser into a new TV console (it holds all the electronic equipment) I removed the bottom two drawers, the back of it and put in some wood for shelving and a fresh coat of ORB and it’s awesome!!

When I was in college, my housemate and I decided to use the left over paint from everyone’s rooms to paint stripes in a nook area. Then, we decided to paint the floor with footprints by painting the bottom of our feet and walking around. I can’t say it was our classiest idea, but it made for a great memory! :)

the most creative idea I have come up with in awhile was turning a room that I never used, into a makeup and hair room for my 6 girl roomies!

If I was creative enough I’d have my own blog! but in general I’m able to open the fridge and make delish meals from leftovers, see a random piece of wood on the street and convince my husband we NEED to have it for xyz (fortunately, he does the same thing to me, just never with the same random piece!).. and can turn a scarf into a dress, top, skirt, or head wrap.. we’re a handy team who don’t like to waste a minute, a dollar, or space (in our tiny BK apt!) Lowes is right down the street and we really should have stock we spend so much time there!

I was NOT prepared for the amount of paperwork/art projects/etc. that my kids would be bringing home each day once they started school. So I bought three pretty magazine files and put each kiddos name on it. All their loot goes in there an when it’s full, we sort through it and keep just our faves.

IDEA ME: I was redoing my barn this weekend and after my boyfriend and I took off the barn boards genius struck! I could use these beautiful weathered boards to replace my 1970’s white cabinet doors with “rustic” hinges! I mocked up a door and voila! I would love a gift card to Lowe’s to shop for hinges and handles for these new doors!

I can’t claim this idea as my own (although I don’t remember where I saw it), but when my husband and I were lacking closet space, I used a pretty birch pole (that I had from work – I do event design) and some metal cord (a pretty metallic pop) to make a hanging clothes rack. We used all materials we already owned, so it was SO much cheaper than buying an expensive armoire, and it holds a TON of clothes!

IDEA ME!! Ok, this isn’t crazy creative or anything but impressive to me. My hubby mapped out-to scale-every inch of our 1/2 acre property and installed a sprinkler system with several zones, drip system and automatic timer. And THEN wheelbarrowed in all of the top soil and laid all of the sod. He did all of this with his own two hands down to every piece of pipe and every little wire connection. Our truly barren high desert backyard is now a green grassy park-like setting. If I were British I’d say he is the bee’s knees!
Carole says
Idea Me! my most creative idea is I freeze any leftover veggies in a container in the freezer. When I am ready to make soup, there they are already together in a container and I save money by not opening new cans. Carole

Turned dining room with 2 doors into a guest room. Shut off one door with sheet rock inside the room and put up little shelves on the outside to make an open display cabinet.

A couple of years ago a scored a beautiful decanter for next to nothing at a thrift store because it was stained on the inside. I brought it home and cleaned it with denture cleaning tablets and it was just like new. I love it. I use it in my bathroom for mouthwash.

I love a theme and often have great ideas for theme parties! Most recently I helped my cousin with her son’s SpongeBob party were we made a ‘Krusty Krab’ restaurant complete with Krabby patties. Before that is was a baby shower for our book club with a ‘Very Hungry Caterpillar’ theme.

One of my fave solutions to a problem was not wanting to spend lots of money on a large wall art piece, so I got some fabric from ikea that I liked and got some wood and framed the fabric on the wood to look like a glamorous art painting!

IDEA ME! Our previous home had a dark gallery kitchen with walnut cabinets. Painted them a glossy white, added new hardware. It was suddenly light and bright and even seemed bigger!! Love the power of paint!

My most favorite project was in our 100 year old house in Savannah. We had the original door and it had 8 small windows, 4 over 4 up high. I didn’t want to hang a curtain but wanted some privacy, so I bought some spray paint glass opaque (frosted) stuff and sprayed the bottom four completely and stuck our house numbers which happened to be 4 numbers one in each top window, sprayed over the stickers and then peeled off the stickers, so the numbers were clear in the top 4 windows and everything else was frosted. It was so cute. I miss that house.

used my dad’s old ties and a not-in-use lamp to creat a father’s day gift. Using both ends of the tie, hot glue them in an alternating pattern so it is long, short, long, short, etc. put pieces of the same tie on opposite sides of the lamp. it can make for a super awesome lamp if you have outrageous ties, like the one i made for myself with my grandfather’s ties after he died. i made my dad’s lamp more than 10 years ago and i think he still gets comments (he keeps it in his work office)

I think my most creative moment lately was taking two 80’s style brass lamps and spray painting them ORB, and then getting some updated lamp shades. You would never know they were once brass with floral lamp shades.

My husband is our home chef and constantly using tons of spices and herbs. No spice shelf or rack was big enough for our store of spices and when I put them in a cabinet it would quickly turn into a jumbled mess after 1-2 weeks. The best spice organizing system I’ve ever come up with is just to label all the tops of each bottle clearly and put them alphabetically into a deep drawer. That way you can see all the labels simultaneously and you’re not constantly having to put bottles back in just right to see the label next time or having to turn 10 bottles around to find what you need.

I have an idea to weight the entire bottom of a curtain with chain (bought from Lowes) so that it hangs flat and gahtered at the bottom edge, without being attached at either end by a tension rod. You might have to be inside my mind to understand this.

I feel like I am constantly brimming with creative ideas for my house, but I rarely get any of it done. I think that means that I am not creative enough? :)

IDEA ME! My best decorating/organizing solution so far has been the chalkboard painted on the top panel of my pantry door. I write the week’s dinner menu on there (and grocery shop accordingly) so at the end of a long day I don’t have to wearily wonder, “What on earth will I make for dinner?” And my 3 boys look at it, too, so they’ll know what’s for dinner & don’t have to ask me every day. It’s also handy for cool quotes or saying, “Happy Birthday”!
