Random.org once again spun its wonderful wheel of randomness and selected our two winners as… Amy @ Larryspearslive.com and Amanda Deerr. Congrats ladies!
Raise your hand if you want a $50 Lowe’s gift card. Or better yet, give me a “hootie hoo.” And if the thought of being one of two lucky winners doesn’t instantly get your brain spinning with all of the potential projects that you could tackle, Lowe’s Creative Ideas will happily fill your head with… wait for it… creative ideas. You may already know of the free Lowe’s Creative Ideas magazines (if not, you can subscribe to ’em here), but even we didn’t realize how much content they have on their website and Facebook page. And along with bigger building and DIY ideas they’ve also got decor tutorials (like stamping curtains) and crafty stuff (like making silhouette art) too.
- PRIZE: A $50 gift card to Lowe’s courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “IDEA ME” and…
- BONUS QUESTION: … tell us about your all-time most creative idea. Was it an awesome solution to an everyday problem? A delicious spur-of-the-moment recipe? An ingenious fix to home decor dilemma? Maybe you’ve just stumbled upon a simple household trick that makes your life easier (like letting the dog eat scraps around the highchair instead of vacuuming)?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 14th at 8pm EST
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
- PRIZE SHIPS: The 50 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

I reused a crate from some liquor filled chocolates that we got for Christmas one year as a tray for my nightstand to keep my water glass, glasses, and remote. (Like the one seen here only larger and more shallow: http://www.carolscandycorner.com/classicassort.html)
I’m even thinking of ORBing it!!! :)

I think my favorite idea was creating faux flower hydrangea balls in our living room. When there’s a slight breeze, they move making me feel like we have a live art installation in our house.

IDEA ME! Here’s a time saver: I spend more time than I should trying to figure out what side of the window the streaks are on…so I use vertical strokes when washing outside windows and horizontal for inside windows.

I can’t think of my most creative idea, but I just gave my boyfriend an anniversary gift of a US map with pins documenting the road trip me took this summer. I got the idea from your map art. Thanks!

Oh please, IDEA ME.
After watching heaps of lemons go bad before we got around to using our Costco sized bag, we started juicing the whole lot and freezing it in ice cube trays. It’s perfect for when you need small amounts of fresh squeezed when cooking, just defrost a cube at a time as needed. We’ve also been known to toss a few into a glass of water or Gin&Tonic too. It’s a little bit of heaven.

I’m really not sure what my ALL TIME most creative idea is BUT one of my more creative ideas recently was reversing the blank when I made these new enamel pendants- turned out SO cute! See: http://www.etsy.com/listing/80749618/pink-flower-fauxnamel-pendants

One of my favorite ideas was our table numbers for our wedding – not original, but people loved the pictures of my husband and I holding paper numbers for each table.

I would have to say that one of my more recent creative genius projects was to start all my seedlings this spring in empty eggshells instead of those pod things you buy at the garden center. Much cheaper, and it gives some nutrients back to the soil when planted (just crush the shell a bit when planting in the ground).

I took all of our old lights and spray painted the metal with hammered nickel making them all look the same and all look brand new. Saved us $100’s of dollars

I have a linen closet that had plywood shelves that always snagged my towels. So a quick trip to the fabric store for some fabric and batting was in order. I wrapped the shelves in flannel and they are perfect for all my linens.

Hmmm I would have to say my most creative idea was when I decided to wainscot our entire downstairs with cheap MDF board instead of paying the big bucks to get the good stuff or have it professionally done. Looks amazing!

IDEA ME! We had to remove our enormous and ugly deck as a fox family was living under it. Squirrel-carcass-city when we took it apart. Ugh. But my clever husband built a garden shed from the deck redwood. And to think I said it couldn’t be done…. It’s the highlight of our Colorado yard.

I framed a leftover scrap of super-seventies wallpaper from my parents’ old house. Every time I look at it, it reminds me of the house where I grew up, and posing in the foyer for pictures on various occasions.

Don’t know if this counts, but instead of being thrown away, a broken ruler was recently used to shim a bookcase. idea me.

I have used rounded topped glass blocks as a backsplash behind my kitchen sink in my open floor plan kitchen. There is no wall and this acts like a barrier or buffer on the counter. It also hides the view of the sink a bit too.

This isn’t spectacular, but it’s my one little “gardening” trick. When I put the dog out to hang in the yard, I always make sure he has water. Whatever he has left when I let him in gets dumped in the planters on the porch! I don’t spill the dish on the way back in, and the plants get watered (a chore I’d otherwise forget).

I made bulletin boards out of old pictures frames, picture hanger wire, and binder clips. Its a lot of fun because I can clip up little mementos that you might not be able to pin to a regular cork board.

In my previous apartment I used framed placemats as wall decor- it was both wall and wallet friendly.

I am a college student and have just recently discovered my love for DIY projects. I made a bulletin board for my dorm room and a clothespin line to display pictures. I also love to refurbish chairs and lampshades. This giftcard would be an awesome way for me to continue exploring this new and exciting hobby!!!!! :)

For my sister-in-law’s bridal shower gift last year, instead of getting her something from the registry, I made her a Hawaii honeymoon gift bag which included beach towels, flip flops, sunscreen and aloe, a bunch of Hawaiian music in a USB drive, massage oil, and it was all “wrapped” in a cute beach bag!

I heard a tip about wrapping lettuce and herbs in paper towels after washing and was sick of throwing away my good produce b/c I didn’t use it all in 3 days. So I tried it and have stuck to it ever since – it’s amazing how long a head of red leaf lettuce will last when you use this method.

This may sound sneaky, but I swear it wasn’t intentional. My most creative idea was to get a 2nd hand fridge (stainless steel, two door, ice/water in door- much nicer than what we had!) that was $1000+ less than retail but was 1/2 inch too wide for our fridge nook. Why was this creative? Well, we saved a crapton of money, and now instead of just cutting down the countertops to accommodate the fridge (the lip was too big to begin with), we are getting new countertops. Woohoo!

I don’t know about my best idea EVER, but my current favorite is deciding to hang a flock of multicolored origami birds over our baby’s crib in lieu of a mobile. Threaded on fishing line, they sway with the breeze from the open window and make me happy every time I see them!

Most creative idea? I have a collage hall upstairs that shows each of my 3 boys pictures at 0,2,4,6,8,10,12,18,24,36,48 months and every year until they are 18. Everyone that sees it loves it.
I also made a “feelings” book for my son when he was in therapy and they still use it.

IDEA ME!
Can’t guarantee this is my most creative idea ever, but in terms of a recent creative idea, I would have to say our rose trellis. We had purchased a climbing rose to put in our landscaping on the front of our house (our house is one of those ones with the main door on the side and fireplace on the front). We needed a trellis but wanted one that could easily expand or grow as the rose grew and would fit our fireplace just right. We didnt like the look of a wood trellis. After searching for quite some time, and looking at expensive wire, it struck me – PVC. So we made a rose trellis out of PVC, used some spray paint to make it a dark color, and now have an expandable rose trellis that won’t rust.

Our latest household trick is our shoe basket. The kids can just throw their shoes in the basket by the door and it’s much easier to find them and get out the door quicker! And it’s cute!
