Random.org once again spun its wonderful wheel of randomness and selected our two winners as… Amy @ Larryspearslive.com and Amanda Deerr. Congrats ladies!
Raise your hand if you want a $50 Lowe’s gift card. Or better yet, give me a “hootie hoo.” And if the thought of being one of two lucky winners doesn’t instantly get your brain spinning with all of the potential projects that you could tackle, Lowe’s Creative Ideas will happily fill your head with… wait for it… creative ideas. You may already know of the free Lowe’s Creative Ideas magazines (if not, you can subscribe to ’em here), but even we didn’t realize how much content they have on their website and Facebook page. And along with bigger building and DIY ideas they’ve also got decor tutorials (like stamping curtains) and crafty stuff (like making silhouette art) too.
- PRIZE: A $50 gift card to Lowe’s courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas

IDEA ME! Oh my goodness, most creative idea? I made my own headboard, sewed up funky curtains from drop cloths, reupholstered a Danish modern chair I found for $14, repainted and recovered (with quilt blocks I sewed up) my motley assortment of dining chairs, built a play kitchen from an old side table and assorted scraps… What haven’t I done, at this point?

I think I’m pretty creative but what still makes my heart go pitter pat is my stairway. I scraped off the carpet and used some molding and a case of caulk to fill in the gaps of the builders stairway. I then painted it all white, coated it with water based poly and hubby stapled a sisal runner (from Lowes)down the length. It’s so stunning and looks brighter and not as steep. I know, others have done it, but I was so proud!

I had the genius idea recently of opening a closet in our fourth bedroom into the bathroom instead and putting the tub there. Now we can fit a double vanity!!

Ours is one of those things that I get a ton of “that’s brilliant!” comments on, but I’m not sure why as it’s nothing remotely original or clever. Every time you get some electronic doo-dad, it comes with a million chargers/connectors, accessories, manuals/software CD’s. It’s a pain to store them, keep track of what they belong to, easy to lose or they always end up in a junk-drawer tangle. To combat this, I put all the things that belong to each item in their own ziploc with the name of the product it belongs to written on the bag. If it’s a pricey item, I also make a copy of the receipt to go in the bag in case there’s a warranty issue. The bags are all kept in a drawer in our entertainment center for easy grabbing.
Of course the real trick is actually putting those accessories back in the correct bag when you’re done with it :)

IDEA ME…please!
One of my favorite creative ideas was making a book of all our wedding cards. I love that they are all bound together to look through all the well-wishes we received.

I just decorated my daughter’s condo bedroom while she’s in med school. Saw a lovely pendant ball lamp made from thatched wood. It was too expensive, so i ordered a 14 inch diameter grapevine ball online for about $9 & put a lantern light socket in it from World Market. Looks incredible & casts a beautiful shadow.

Greatest creative idea to date: my husband and I couldn’t agree on a color for our front door…so we change it to something new every 6 months! It’s super easy to paint (using many thin, even coats) and is totally changes the look for our house.

I always have ideas for how to make things easier/more efficient around the house–especially now that I’m occupied with a 7 month old baby. But of course right now mommy brain is keeping me from remembering any of my own ideas. My husband, however, keeps his socks together in the drawer by putting one sock inside the other. So, there’s no folding necessary. He even removes his socks leaving one inside out so after they go through the wash, it’s easier to pull one around the outside of the other when matching them up.

My most creative idea so far has been in concocting yummy meals for my 11 month old. He has decided he is “too grown up” for baby food, and giving him yummy and nutritious treats is s much fun!

I love using embroidery hoops to display art. I stretch fabric over it and pin something to the fabric or paint something onto the fabric.

When my husband and I first moved in together, we had 2 kitchen tables so I repurposed one as my sewing table. It was much cheaper than tables created specifically for sewing, and it has a lot of space for working on projects.

Idea Me! Hmmm, probably some of my most creative ideas are easy meals that the baby will eat. Like mashed garbanzo beans on a rice cake or polenta pizzas.

I started being too lazy to put face clothes in the hamper once used so I bought a desktop garbage can for my counter. Saves time and I only have to empty it once a week.

IDEA ME! I still love this adorable little shelf I made using two cute brackets and 1 wooden wall sign. It’s fun and I feel proud every time I realize that I came up with the idea!

The ones I can think of off the top of my head include hanging a bulltin board with moveable push pins in my walkin closet to hang my necklaces and white ice cube trays to separate out earrings. Not fancy, but keeps it organized in a place no one but me sees.

When we converted our house from a two apartment building into a single residence, we removed deadbolts from two doors which left big ole holes! I thought of using a wooden flower found in the trim department of the local builder’s supply to fill the holes! Turned out great!

Our front porch was enclosed when we bought it, which was great because our house is so tiny, but a 5 x24′ room isn’t that useful. So I had my dad and husband frame out a closet in the middle, so now we have some much needed storage space and an front entrance/mud room and a laundry nook and some much needed storage!

So far my most creative decor idea around the house involves ripping out a wall and adding some shelves inbetween the colomn and wall for a fun focal point and added “storage”

My most creative idea in the last week (it’s hard to think of ever!) was buying a bolt of tobacco cloth at the CO-OP to make sheer curtains for our house. Cheap, effective, and they add to the island feel we’re going for more than any store-bought curtains would!

This is not original at all, but my middle child would tear our pantry apart in seconds. I finally got wise and had my husband install a child safety thing! Life is so much better now! :)

IDEA ME! love the dogs as vacuum comment! So funny! I have two basset hounds that we call the aligators, as they never take their eyes off the highchair….just waiting for something to drop! My daughter is usually happy to oblige!

My most ingenious idea involved the renovations we made to our van to turn it into a mini RV. My husband agonized and researched for months about what to do; I made a genious game-changing plan in about .5 seconds that we are so, so glad we did! Plus, whenever we show the van off to friends or family and they comment on how clever the design is, my husband always gives me the credit! Awww.

I saw the coolest picture in Pottery Barn of this double seater bike across three canvases. I thought, I could paint that. So I bought a big bicycle sticker/decal, stuck it across my canvases, painted over it, and pulled it off. There I had my awesome bike canvas for a mere fraction of the price. Wooo!

The smartest thing I’ve ever done in my house was this: my cats scratch at the woodwork on my patio door when they want to go out and it was tearing it up. So I tacked a cat scatcher (it was actually the right size and everything so I didn’t need to do anything to it)to the woodwork to cover it up and now the cats can scratch away. I am so proud that my idea is working! LOL

The best idea I came across is having a small garbage bowl next to me when I start cooking. Best tip ever. Instead making a mess or trying dump trash as and when I need to.. I dump veg peels, plastic covers etc into my garbage bowl. When am done cooking , I just empty the contents into my main trash!

I had an issue with too little cabinet space in the kitchen and too many cast iron skillets…solution, we anchored a frame to the wall and attached peg board to the frame, instant cast iron storage. Getting the 3 skillets off my stove top was one of the happiest days of my life.
