Random.org once again spun its wonderful wheel of randomness and selected our two winners as… Amy @ Larryspearslive.com and Amanda Deerr. Congrats ladies!
Raise your hand if you want a $50 Lowe’s gift card. Or better yet, give me a “hootie hoo.” And if the thought of being one of two lucky winners doesn’t instantly get your brain spinning with all of the potential projects that you could tackle, Lowe’s Creative Ideas will happily fill your head with… wait for it… creative ideas. You may already know of the free Lowe’s Creative Ideas magazines (if not, you can subscribe to ’em here), but even we didn’t realize how much content they have on their website and Facebook page. And along with bigger building and DIY ideas they’ve also got decor tutorials (like stamping curtains) and crafty stuff (like making silhouette art) too.
- PRIZE: A $50 gift card to Lowe’s courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “IDEA ME” and…
- BONUS QUESTION: … tell us about your all-time most creative idea. Was it an awesome solution to an everyday problem? A delicious spur-of-the-moment recipe? An ingenious fix to home decor dilemma? Maybe you’ve just stumbled upon a simple household trick that makes your life easier (like letting the dog eat scraps around the highchair instead of vacuuming)?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 14th at 8pm EST
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
- PRIZE SHIPS: The 50 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

My husband and I are full of all sorts of creative ideas. Unfortunately we’re also the type who start full of enthusiasm, but sometimes flame out before the job is done. I like your blog because it inspires me to step back and look at how we can eat the elephant a bite at a time, rather than just jumping in and biting off more than we can chew!

I’m not terribly creative so my choices to tell you about are limited. I was pretty please with my solution for our porch light, though. We kept forgetting to turn it on or off. Finally, I came up with the idea of a light sensor. Not terribly original as some of the porch lights come with sensors but I didn’t know that when I thought of the idea. Also, I didn’t like the choices available for the porch lights that had built in sensors. We found a separate sensor and just installed it near the light we already had.

IDEA ME! Please… and thank you. As for my most creative idea, the one that comes to mind is the secret pirate room (with a little hobbit-like door) that we built for my son in the unused space under our stairway leading down to the basement.

For wall art, I once found this awesome picture in the newspaper. I contacted the paper to see if they had the original photo and they sent me a copy. I blew it up and now it’s hanging in our living room!

My most creative idea would have to be the Christmas wreath I made several years ago. I still love it all these years later!

“Idea Me”! Well, my 21 month old recently decided to start climbing out of his crib (and it was on the lowest setting). So after trying out a few things, we just took the mattress base off and nailed some wood underneath to raise it up a couple inches, then placed it directly on the floor inside his crib and that did it. It is low enough that he cannot climb out and high enough to where he cant push the crib over the mattress and sneak out underneath. Yes, we are dealing with a Houdini (his older brother was the same way). This should hold things off until we can switch to his big boy bed. Right now he wont stay in his bed unless contained.

I was feeling rather plucky when I figured out how to make my own little witches broom for a class that I’m teaching. Crossing my fingers, toes, arms, legs and eyes!

“Idea me” Sheesh…I am having a hard time thinking of an original idea that has made my life easier. I am usually stealing them from people like you both;) Probably using a large decorative basket under my behind the sofa table to hide all the kids coloring materials…finally giving me some breathable space.

I painted a microwave cart and repurposed it for counter space in our tiny, only-has-a-pedestal-sink bathroom!

My best idea (that I can think of…) was last Christmas when we were tight on money due to hubby getting laid off at the beginning of the year. I made all my female family members & friends scented bath salts and oatmeal face masks. Saved us a ton of money!

I used an Ansel Adams calender as a daily diary for our daughter’s first year. So much space to write little notes, easy access, and beautiful, too! When a large group of realtors did a run through of our house before we put it on sale, I caught all of them reading and laughing and awing. I do the same thing when I read it, too. :)

We live in a very, very tiny apartment. Some may call it a shoe box. Anyway, we didn’t really have room for a big ol’ coffee table, nor did we have the extra money to buy one. I did, however, have an old trunk with a flat top…
Stick some candles and a vase of flowers on it and voila. A coffee table that stores junk as well.

I once used plastic decorative plates from Target as “art” above my headboard in college… it was cute and very cheap!

IDEA ME Our most creative project was when we were trying to update our kitchen on a VERY minimal budget. We had some dated brass handles on the cabinets and wanted to spend some money on new hardware to make things a bit more current. However, the handles had been on the cabinets so long that the wood was darker behind them and no handles could cover it up. So we decided to spray paint it a brushed nickle color so that it would match everything else. It turned out great and it only cost us a few dollars!

I’m a broke college student so buying swiffer solution isn’t always in the budget. Well turns out if you boil the swiffer cap it pops right off! You can fill it up with whatever you like, a vinegar solution for me, and you’re swiffer-ing in a snap!

Our biggest change that cost $0 was taking our cabinet doors off to reveal all of our pretty dinnerware. I love the openness it brings to our kitchen!

I sometimes use frozen bread to make sandwiches when I pack a lunch–it thaws out by lunchtime while keeping deli meats and veggies cool.

IDEA ME! I really don’t get too creative with crafts or decorating, but I’m definitely looking forward to doing so when I have some more space!

So it’s not super crafty, but I use an old milk crate for kitchen towels and rags. I hate to just toss them in our hamper in our room b/c the damp dish rags get a funky smell, so I just toss them in a milk crate in the laundry room and toss them in the washing machine when I’m doing laundry.

Not the most creative…but adding a frame around our bathroom mirrors was one of my fav projects. It looks like a beautiful hanging mirror, and we reused our existing plate glass mirror.

Best ever idea…my dgt’s 1st apt had a really small kitchen. What it did have was this little jut out that was ~2 ft deep(kind of place where you would put a trash can). We put up closet maid shelving brackets and added 5 melamine shelves to within 2ft of the ceiling. The bottom shelf was ~ 3 ft from the floor which allowed the trash can to fit in nicely. From the top shelf to the floor, I hung 2 panels of black and white damask fabic which I tacked to the top board with black upholstry tacks. I also tacked the fabric to the side of the shelves which added a nice little element and kept the fabric from floating around. This became her pantry and was perfect! We continued the black and white theme throughout her little kithen and it turned out darling. Total cost of the project with fabric ran around $45.

I bought a quilt remnant at a garage sale for $2 and tied ribbon close to both ends and placed a nail outside of each window over our tub and then hung the remnant so it draped over both nails right where I had tied the ribbon and it made the cutest $2 window treatment you ever did see!

We had just moved in to a new house and we didn’t have money to do window treatments yet. My husband had night shifts and he had to sleep during the day. so we got creative with foil and gift wrap to cover the windows, keep light out and look slightly decent.

My most creative (and useful!) idea came when our two puppies outgrew their indoor crate and needed a safe, confined place to be outside when we were not home. So I used some leftover fencing supplies and built them a kennel that is not only useful, but looks seamless in our backyard!
