***This giveaway is no longer expecting entries – see who won below!***
Random.org once again spun its wonderful wheel of randomness and selected our two winners as… Amy @ Larryspearslive.com and Amanda Deerr. Congrats ladies!
Raise your hand if you want a $50 Lowe’s gift card. Or better yet, give me a “hootie hoo.” And if the thought of being one of two lucky winners doesn’t instantly get your brain spinning with all of the potential projects that you could tackle, Lowe’s Creative Ideas will happily fill your head with… wait for it… creative ideas. You may already know of the free Lowe’s Creative Ideas magazines (if not, you can subscribe to ’em here), but even we didn’t realize how much content they have on their website and Facebook page. And along with bigger building and DIY ideas they’ve also got decor tutorials (like stamping curtains) and crafty stuff (like making silhouette art) too.
- PRIZE: A $50 gift card to Lowe’s courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “IDEA ME” and…
- BONUS QUESTION: … tell us about your all-time most creative idea. Was it an awesome solution to an everyday problem? A delicious spur-of-the-moment recipe? An ingenious fix to home decor dilemma? Maybe you’ve just stumbled upon a simple household trick that makes your life easier (like letting the dog eat scraps around the highchair instead of vacuuming)?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 14th at 8pm EST
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
- PRIZE SHIPS: The 50 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

One especially snowy winter while we were living in Boston, my son Cole was riding his little “bike” through our apartment and was fascinated with the snow plows out in the parking lot. I took two pieces of cardboard, joined them in the middle, then poked some holes near the fold and tied a ribbon through them. I attached the ribbon to his bike and made it like a snowplow. :) We practiced putting blocks on the ground and then he would “plow” them into a pile. It was so easy and fun and brought us both a lot of joy. :) It’s the little things.

IDEA ME! Some people say I’m creative, but an exact example escapes me. I’m usually inspired by other people’s creativity.

Definitely not creative, but I did just make up a bunch of ‘snack bags’ for my toddler. I’m hoping it will save time in the morning when we’re dashing out to whatever we have on that day!

I’m definitely not creative at all, but in my tiny apartment I was looking for a bedside table that could fill the 8 inch gap between my bed and the wall. I found an old wooden CD tower – and then instead of letting it free stand, I hung it over the molding – giving myself the each inch needed for the 9 inch wide tower! Now I have a bedside table for a clock and a glass of water!

This may not be my BEST creative idea, but I am still amazed that I pulled off a civil war soldier costume in high school with nothing more than a winter coat (with the collar popped, oh yes) and some old girl scout pins, and my teacher was concerned that I spent too much time on it! :D

My most creative idea was to make a fingerpost sign for our wedding that pointed out important places from our lives (e.g. my hometown, his hometown, town where we lived when we met, etc.).

My most creative moments were working at an afterschool program with a limited budget. One time we made a giant spiderweb out of spare yarn and another time we made a giant cardboard box fort.

Idea Me! I keep buying furniture from craiglist thinking I will then have great ideas on how to rehab them and have one of a kind pieces. I think where I get lost is the motivation to actually do it…

IDEA ME! I, too, love the Lowe’s magazines, and since they’re free I love them more!
I have only created this solution in my head, but it’s brilliant, if I do say so myself. My house, circa 1983 has a large, weird space in the upstairs hallway. There’s a T where the I in the T runs parallel to the staircase. It’s about 2 1/2 – 3 feet wide and about 19 feet long. Right now it has an Ikea “thing” that houses my daughter’s TV and toys, a Barbie house, play kitchen, etc. But she’s 8 and really can only get so much more use from it. Soooo, I’m going to have it turn into a home office with built in cabinetry from floor to ceiling. Desk, printer trays, place for the copier, storage for craft and office supplies, the works! It’ll give us a whole room in our house back PLUS some closet space! It’s truly ingenious, you kind of have to see the space to appreciate it. Now, just to find a magazine or TV show willing to do it for me! ;)

I think the best thing we have done in our house is by taking a 6×4 space from the family room and building a banquette in our kitchen. We’ve never missed the family room space!

My most creative idea was back in junior high, when as part of a group project about the Glorious Revolution in England, I composed our presentation entirely in rhyme. It was awesome and I got an A. Sad that I reached my creative peak in 8th grade, though.

In our last house, I used wire curtain holders from Ikea, strung several lengths of it across the playroom’s longest wall, and made an “art gallery” for the kids.

I made a table for my husband, it was out of an old printer tray, I busted out all the slats and added various sizes of letterpress letters we picked up at various flea markets. He loved it! It is one of our favorite pieces in our home, thanks so much for a generous giveaway! Many smiles to you and your family, Jackie

Not sure how creative, but I made a bed for our dog and cat – which they lay on every chance they get. And they only cost $7 for both of them thanks to clearance fabric and the insides of a pillow that had seen much better days.

One especially brilliant idea I had when I taught 8th grade English involved rearranging the words of Iyaz’s iPod song to create a song about grammar. My students loved it. We had dance moves and everything.
“Grammar’s like a melody in my head / All eight parts of speech got me thinkin’ like / na na na na every day / it’s like my ipod’s stuck on replay replay…”
and then we went on to identify each part.

We needed a long curtain rod over double sliding glass doors for our lake themed family room. We bought some wooden oars and cut off the handles. Then we attached the oars to a closet rod, painted all and voila!

We needed more room for our boys to play so we cut a hole in the back of my son’s closet and added a small playroom in the attic space. Most awesome playroom ever because it’s like the secret garden :)
