Random.org once again spun its wonderful wheel of randomness and selected our two winners as… Amy @ Larryspearslive.com and Amanda Deerr. Congrats ladies!
Raise your hand if you want a $50 Lowe’s gift card. Or better yet, give me a “hootie hoo.” And if the thought of being one of two lucky winners doesn’t instantly get your brain spinning with all of the potential projects that you could tackle, Lowe’s Creative Ideas will happily fill your head with… wait for it… creative ideas. You may already know of the free Lowe’s Creative Ideas magazines (if not, you can subscribe to ’em here), but even we didn’t realize how much content they have on their website and Facebook page. And along with bigger building and DIY ideas they’ve also got decor tutorials (like stamping curtains) and crafty stuff (like making silhouette art) too.
- PRIZE: A $50 gift card to Lowe’s courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas

I loved the DIY wedding invitations, reponse cards, and even the labels I designed for our wedding:

our most recent great idea was stacking our washer and dryer and adding small shelves to the left of them and a counter top with laundry sorting bins underneath to the right- it’s added a lot of function to our teeny laundry room

I love pinterest, so inspiring. I also love HGTV. I recently found a great idea on HGTV to take your pictures of your child’s favorite toy, blow it up and glue it to a handmade wooden plaque and turn it into a work of art. I am excited to take pictures of my boys legos and decorate their room with pictures of their own toys.

Well creativity is not my greatest strength. But at one job I had the desk space was tiny. I guess nobody had thought of stacking before but I put the phone on top of the computer’s CPU unit to free up at least half the desk! (When I said tiny I wasn’t exaggerating). :)

I can’t think of one idea in particular that stands out. I just make things, reorganize and reinvent things around my house on a daily basis. It is my way of life.

Using the Wii to get my kids to clean. One race on Mario Kart and then 3 minutes to get a small job done. If it gets done in three minutes we do another race. My kids are such Wii addicts that they look forward to cleaning so they can play wii.

IDEA ME! Blogs have been my inspiration lately, as well as magazines–usually the online version, like bhg or sunset.

I recently hit up some garage sales and found beautiful sea glass decorative bowls for $1 and I’m using them to hold jewelry, bobby pins, cotton balls, etc. in my bathroom and it looks so classy!

A small room off of our kitchen was used as a breakfast nook by the previous owners, except it wasn’t functional at all and was super-ugly. It had a custom table with benches built-in on either side and looked like a restaurant booth straight out of the ’60s. We ripped all of that out, put in metal, commercial-grade shelving, and now use that space to store kitchen gadgets, serving pieces and other odds and ends. I love having so much storage!

Idea me! My family is moving into an apartment on the campus where I work. Who knew? Under the icky old carpet, there’s real parquet flooring. My best idea to date is making one of the old dorm desks into a kitchen island.

I wish I was more creative…but whatever creativity I had died when I was in med school :(. Luckily my hubby is an artist of sorts (3D animator/musician) and my sister is a pastry chef and super crafty, so they get creative for me!
And I’m hopelessly addicted to Pinterest!

IDEA ME!! I love coming up with crazy/creative ideas for art and decoration… but I think one of my favorites was to wallpaper a room with the pages of an old book! I loved being surrounded by the words and the faded, nostalgic look of the yellow pages… so much fun! :-)

When we first moved into our place, I was looking for a compost/trash bin solution for food scraps. I didn’t want to have a compost jar under the sink because I didn’t want to have to bend over all the time to get it in and out of the cabinet.
I bought this glass jar with a lid (the same glass jar that you guys use for cereal) as a compost/trash jar. It sits right near the sink, and I like how it has a cover because the bugs don’t get to it. And since it’s clear, I know when it needs to be taken out. I line it with a grocery bag so I don’t have to clean the jar that often. It’s been a great help, and it doesn’t look ugly on my counter.

I’m baseline not a creative person – I used to be before life got in the way. My most creative time was making my own curtains and pillow shams for college. Because I had a very specific design aesthetic and very small budget.

When I was in high school I was assigned a group project which was to make a display of an era in literature. While every other group put a few samples and maybe a figurine or two on a table, we took it to another level. We created a walk in castle out of boxes and painted it inside and out (all of us were artistic folk) – stayed up all night working on it. We filled the walls with pictures and samples and set up a table with a TV and movie playing. It took up 1/4 of the classroom. It was SO much fun I wish I had pictures!

I’ve made lots of good stuff since, but I first became a crafter when my mom let me use her sewing machine all by herself. I was too young for her to buy me a bikini, so I sewed one out of an old pair of jeans. And…it turned out pretty good! not good enough to wear to the pool, but thus is the life of a 12 year old.

I’m generally not a creative person when it comes to decorating (which is why I read your blog by the way!) but I think my most creative idea was my daughter’s room. I absolutely LOVE the eclectic feel of the space. It is very girly and kid friendly but I find most adults love the space and spend time looking at all the details that make it unique.
Now…to apply that to the rest of the house!

Idea me! I’m in my first apartment in NYC, and I’ve had lots of ideas, but no time/money to execute most of them. Next on the list: bringing an inherited dresser back to life… it’s currently a terrible shade of dark green.

Not home-related, but still pretty clever (I thought). While trying on a number of returnable-only-if-not-worn shoes with my wedding dress, i put blue painters tape on the bottom of them so the soles wouldn’t get damaged. Worked like a charm and i was able to return the 7 (yes 7) pairs of extra shoes i didnt need!

I love reusing wood clementine boxes for EVERYTHING. They make great catch-alls in the bathroom, gift boxes, planters (not so functional on the drainage side, but so cute!), etc., etc., et. al.!

Our 2.5 year old started crawling out of her crib in April so we were scrambling to order the parts to convert it to a toddler bed, only to find the company (Netto) had been bought by Maclaren and they had discontinued our crib, and thus the toddler bed conversion kit (nice notifying customers BTW). I found some images online of what they looked like and checked out the hardware that came with the crib to attach the bars on the front and figured we might be able to make it ourselves since we couldn’t buy it anywhere anyway.
A $12 piece length of 1×12, some leftover trim paint and 4 screw inserts to match the existing screw hardware that came with the crib and VOILA, toddler bed :) Total cost, $18! Versus the $150 they would have charged for the conversion kit had it been available!

I’m in the process of putting our nursery together. It’s a super tiny room, but it has a big walk-in closet, so I took the doors off the closet and I’m building extra shelving and a built-in bench with a cushion to make extra storage and play space for our little girl. Needless to say, the Lowe’s gift card would be super helpful. :)
