Random.org once again spun its wonderful wheel of randomness and selected our two winners as… Amy @ Larryspearslive.com and Amanda Deerr. Congrats ladies!
Raise your hand if you want a $50 Lowe’s gift card. Or better yet, give me a “hootie hoo.” And if the thought of being one of two lucky winners doesn’t instantly get your brain spinning with all of the potential projects that you could tackle, Lowe’s Creative Ideas will happily fill your head with… wait for it… creative ideas. You may already know of the free Lowe’s Creative Ideas magazines (if not, you can subscribe to ’em here), but even we didn’t realize how much content they have on their website and Facebook page. And along with bigger building and DIY ideas they’ve also got decor tutorials (like stamping curtains) and crafty stuff (like making silhouette art) too.
- PRIZE: A $50 gift card to Lowe’s courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “IDEA ME” and…
- BONUS QUESTION: … tell us about your all-time most creative idea. Was it an awesome solution to an everyday problem? A delicious spur-of-the-moment recipe? An ingenious fix to home decor dilemma? Maybe you’ve just stumbled upon a simple household trick that makes your life easier (like letting the dog eat scraps around the highchair instead of vacuuming)?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 14th at 8pm EST
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
- PRIZE SHIPS: The 50 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Idea me please! I painted a rendition of Van Gogh’s “Starry Night” across the front of a hand me down dresser. Definitely made an impact!

IDEA ME! Most of my creativity comes from Pinterest :)

One crazy clever home solution I stumbled upon on a recent pinterest binge was:
using a rubberband to loosen a stripped screw!!!! easy-peasy just place the rubberband on top of the stripped screw and press the head of your screw drive into the screw as usual…the rubberbrand fills in the stripped areas and gives the grip you need to loosen that mashed up screw! so helpful when taking apart old furniture and any other beat up screws we come across in our DIY-ing. =)

After peeling all those amazing fall apples for applesauce and pies, the red, yellow, green, burgundy peelings were too pretty to throw away. I dried them and use them as a filler for glass vases during the fall. Smelled great too!

IDEA ME! I once replaced the window weights in my living room. Didn’t realize what a job it was going to be until I was too far in to go back!

Idea me! I needed to decorate 3/4 way around my Christmas tree and I would always move it and break an ornament. This year I put my tree in a galvanized tub that was fitted with castors. Now I can wheel it around without breaking anything!

IDEA ME! :)
A few months after getting married and moving into our first apartment together, just after we had gotten settled and I was getting ready to decorate, my husband’s company went under and I found myself with zero money to decorate! So I got the bright idea to unfold brown paper grocery bags and tape three together to make a huge canvas (which I then carefully crumpled and uncrumpled for dimension). Then I added red flower petals made from cardstock, feathery stamens from more torn grocery bags and permanent marker, and painted on stems and petals. My paper mural is still hanging over my couch four years (and thankfully a well-paying job) later, and I get a ton of compliments on it. :)

Can’t think of anything in particular but I am good at using what I have and making it work. It is always fun to go into the garage and stare at the misc. items until something finally jumps out at me.

Most recent creative moment: I found frame at a thrift store that looks like a window, so after a few attempts at updating it, I settled on painting the glass with chalkboard paint to make a fun message board for our kitchen.

I picked up an old cypress floorboard on the side of the road and used some plain metal brackets to make a rustic picture ledge.

IDEA ME!!! My best idea ever was to marry my husband. He can fix anything. Saves my DIY-heart lots of moolah!!

My most creative moment was creating some instructional online videos for my music students to study at home.

IDEA MEEEEEE!
My best creative idea was taking an unused, under the staircase closet and turning it into my daughter’s playroom! I no longer have to step over blocks, doll shoes, and puzzle pieces; it all goes in the toy room! Plus, she L*O*V*E*S it!
Lynnita says
IDEA ME!! Most creative is when we gave our fireplace a distressed look with a wood stainer.

All time most creative idea… hmmmm… Drawing a blank here. I’m not that creative. Oh wait, I made my own wedding invites! And I make my kids bday party invites. Okay, that IS pretty creative. : )

My child is part monkey so we installed wright iron fencing in our house. She can undo baby gates and climb most others. At least this she hasn’t figured out yet (note: not the kind withsharp pointy ends. That would be odd.)

We had a bunch of scrap wood left over from a backyard project that our HOA nixed. (We we’re going to build a patio but I guess nothing can be connected to the house?) While not my idea, my husband repurposed the wood to build a seating area, complete with benches, table and slatted wood surrounding the benches. Its awesome, if I say so myself. :)

Hootie Hoo! Idea me please!! Certainly not a genius idea by any means, but this weekend we inherited some fantastic wingback chairs. They are fantastic, but didn’t really seem to have a natural “fit” in the house. Inspired by your unconventional dining room, I gave the chairs a spot in my dining room and love it!

We recently finished a new space themes room for my 8 year old son. Our great idea was to give him free reign to pick out the color scheme and decorating. I turned out great.

My best DIY home improvement idea yet is what I am working on now – I couldn’t find cheap curtain rods that i liked so i am making my own out of electrical conduit (purchased from lowes!). I am also having my first experience with ORB spray because of your recommendations… So far, so good!!

Maybe not my MOST creative thing ever, but I made a scrapbook for my hubby’s 30th birthday and had all our close friends and family each make a page to put in it. It was super special and he loved it!

My daughter and I made an “earring tree” out of random twigs from an ACTUAL tree in our front yard anchored in a pretty, shallow plant vase that used to hold bamboo we unintentionally killed off. Only works for the dangly kind, but looks pretty cool!

Most creative idea: moved the front door of our house, which made the dining room the entry, and made the living room much bigger and just right for a giant flat TV. It would make much more sense if I could draw a picture.

IDEA ME! Our diagonal built-in bookshelves are our most ambitious (and maybe creative?) project yet- we could use the help!

Thus far our most creative moment was my husband hacking a cover for a too-close-to-little-hands food disposal cover: cut an eight-shape out of a clear bit of a johnson’s soap bottle and screw it in with the screws.
Fran Short says
Idea Me! We just had a screen porch added to our house! Love spending time in that room!

Idea Me – building a library in our basement. The layout of the room lent itself perfectly to shelving for my 3000 books.

My most creative idea was to join Pinterest. Joking! (but kind of not…).
Spray paint has become my most creative best friend! Seriously, that stuff can make anything look good and make me feel like the most creative person ever. From re-creating thrift store lamps, to giving a side table new life, to taking tacky brass dresser hardware and making it new and fantastic. I heart spraypaint.
Rachel says
Idea Me! My most creative idea of late is turning my love of all things vintage and thrifty into an Etsy store. Now I don’t annoy my husband with the purchases since I can make a profit and still get to enjoy the thrill of the hunt!

Well, just about everything in my house has been DIYed a bit. But, my favorite thing at this time is adding decorative borders with upholstry tacks on the wall.
Catherine says
IDEA ME! Love hanging postcards and greeting cards from ribbon with clothespins!
Jen M says
Idea Me! Hootie Hoo! I think my bet idea so far was to take our old over-the fridge cabinet and re-rurnish it as a train table for my son. We added a peice of sanded plywood to hinges and it became a perfectly sized play table with a secret drawer under the hinged door and had two perfectly sized doors in the front for fabric bins. Love your blog. You guys are my gurus!

Idea me… our best idea was probably 2 years ago when we sprayed painted all our knobs and dining room chandelier rustoleum metallic bronze. We love the look plus it saved us money.

My son is into nerf guns so I made a “gun” rack for him using a peg board and hooks, now all his guns hang nicely on his wall…that is when he actually puts them up.

Last weekend my husband and I turned a basement room (scary bug infested room) into his office with a little elbow grease and DIY carpeting. It was our first home project together and we learned we work well together. Yay! Now he has an office and I have my dining room table back. A win-win situation!

IDEA ME! I love going to Lowe’s!
A fun project for my family room is using a vintage picnic basket from a neighbor’s garage sale as a table between two chairs in my family room. We store books and whatnot inside and raise the height a bit with a few more books. Storage and style.
