Idea me…I need lots of ideas to update my 1965 house. I have wall to wall ugly wallpaper that needs to go! I also have a light switch that when flipped turns off the garage door, so some new wiring may be in order! :)

IDEA ME! That’s a super tough question, so let’s just say that I have great ideas all the time:)

IDEA ME! The hubs and I haven’t been in our new house long enough to come up with any great ideas, but in order to make do when we first moved in, I made a kitchen table out of a side table and a piece of glass. That’s gone now but our makeshift wine crates turned bedside tables are still doing their job to make our airbed guest room look as inviting as possible : )

I used black duct tape to cover the corroded part of my black fridge under the water dispenser. It looks a lot better!

IDEA ME!!! I recently took on the task of spray painting our old looking doorbell.

I think one of our best ideas is our closet in our bedroom. We rent and when we moved in, we discovered the previous tenants had left some shoddy shelves and bars there. We talked to our landlord and he made several suggestions, but after waking up to our clothes crashing down, we realized we needed something heavy duty. Since the landlord didn’t want to spend a ton of money, we finally found a great system at Sam’s. Sadly it didn’t quite fit in our closet. Luckily my handyman boyfriend was able to move some of the pieces around and attach them in different places and now we have an amazing closet organizer system, all for under $100!

A creative idea that turned out really well was when I did an office makeover for my husband’s birthday and found this amazing fabric for some pillows (we have a futon in there) and decided to stretch the fabric over an old cork board we already had and hang some cute photos of us on it. It really ties in the colors and looks awesome for next to nothing!

IDEA ME! My most creative idea was probably re-arranging the spaces in our house from how the previous owners used it, to something that works better for our lifestyle – we took a previously empty space, and built in a bench w/ shoe rack, as well as cabinets and hooks to creat an entryway that never existed before. It’s functional but also looks great!

IDEA ME! I had fun making an art project by cutting up a table runner & framing 3 different sections to go in our guest bedroom. Then I used an identical table runner as a bed scarf to tie it all in. It turned out super cute!

My best idea was to put a countertop (leftover marble from parent’s kitchen renovation) in my bathroom dormer window, above the radiator. Instant vanity!

Our house does not have a single switched outlet (bummer), so we use the remote-controlled outlets that you can find at Christmas time (we got ours at BB&B). Now all of our lamps are on these nifty little gadgets (because we don’t care for overhead lighting) and each room is on a different frequency, so we don’t have to worry about turning on the living room lights when we only want our bedside lamps on:) The only downside is if the outlet is not behind a piece of furniture, they are unattractive.

Most creative idea… I spray painted some old brass chandeliers that I found on Craigslist, re-wired them so they could be plugged in – we then hung them in the barn we had our wedding reception in – one over the double door entry way, and one over our head table. It was awesome.
Closing on our new house on Friday – we could use this card!

My best idea was probably (spray) painting my French Provincial furniture.
It went from little girl white to uptown black (with gold accents).

IDEA ME! I am not that creative. I just steal ideas from the internet :)

Idea me! Last month a copied a creative wall art idea out of a magazine. I used only the wood part of the frame, painted it white, and strung several wires across the middle horizontally wrapping them around a nail on either side. I then painted several cute baby clothes pins. I like to use it as a sort of bulletin board that I pin fun things to in my kitchen.

IDEA ME! I’m not sure if its my most creative idea, but its my most recent. We were having a fantasy football draft party and I carved out a watermelon into the shape of a football helmet and stuck some cut fruit inside. It was a huge hit! (thanks to Pinterest)

I found some really charming antique wooden folding chairs that I love. I hung them up on the wall in our dining room so they not only provide extra seating, but double as artwork. I love the rustic practicality they provide and I always get complements!

I just painted the paneling in my living room and I wanted to have a different color in the grooves. first I painted the stripes and then went to roller the opposing color on and it just didn’t work, so I bought a ketchup/mustard bottle and filled it with the color paint I wanted and ran them up the cracks. IT WORKED PERFECTLY!!!!!!!

For our wedding, I decided that instead of a regular guestbook, I’d get creative. So we cut up a bunch of different quilt fabrics (scavenged from a flea market) into squares and had guests write some sort of wish or wisdom on them with markers. Then they’d hang ’em with clothespins around our outdoor dance floor by some baling twine. So, it was a temporary prayer flag decoration for the event!
But wait, there’s more!
Now the plan is to stitch the squares together (and embroider guest’s writing) to make a quilt, so we can curl up in all the lovely sentiment! Luckily though, if we don’t get to it right away, the photos of them on the twine from the reception are AMAZING! It was nice to make the guest book such a big part of the event–So proud!

We just got done building our new porch and after seeing the prices for balusters I came up with an idea to use rebar…now the railing cost $45 instead of $200….as soon as we are done I will post it in a link party

The best idea I had I actually can’t take credit for. Our bathroom door wouldn’t stay open due to an old building and shifting foundation, so my husband devised a way to keep it open using magnets and command tape. Truly genius!

IDEA ME Pretty Please!
While working on a tablescape for a charity event, I was on a tight, TIGHT budget. I took several long branches from the backyard, cleaned them, spray painted them lightly gold, put them into a huge vase and hung votives with ribbon on them. It looked so gorgeous on my bronze table, rustic yet elegant.

Our mail is always every where instead of just in one place. Plus, we have a very long and slender foyer with no room for a table to catch all our stuff as we come through the door. So I had a shadow box that I had previously broken the glass by accident and decided to turn it into a mail holder. I used wire across the bottom 4? of it to keep the mail from falling out and craft paper to decorate the inside. At the top I used rub off letters to say “mail”. Then I hung it on the wall in the foyer. It doesn’t take up any floor space and it keeps all our mail off the kitchen table, counter tops, sofa, etc.

One of my ideas that I still love to this day was when we renovated our old kitchen. I had a friend make us an island and use the old table legs from the table that used to be in there. Since the island only needed two of the legs, I got him to half one of the legs and add to it a bare spot on the cabinetry. It was such a nice added touch – it even helped sell the house!

I think the most creative thing we’ve done ourselves was taking care of our drab looking fireplace. My husband hated looking at the red bricks along with the updated family room, so we actually bought marble and stone that looked great together and made a new mantle and then tiled up the old fireplace with the new stonework. It looks awesome and seems to be the new focal point and something most visitors comment on when coming to see us!

We always had random scraps of torn wrapping paper around for miscellaneous holidays, so we got rid of them all and started using paper bags from the grocery store and use them as wrapping paper for all events! Now we only buy fun strings and ribbons for packages.

Super uncreative, but helped me to keep my bathroom clutter-free: I installed a sticky hook under my pedestal sink to hang my hair dryer! WOW–genius! :) Now, I have a place for my dryer instead of wherever, which also allowed other items to not be put back in their place…

IDEA ME! Fave DIY project was stripping the interior of a vintage travel trunk, it had a pull down desk and cool little cubbies. I painted it funky colors and kept my cd player, music and some pictures in it. It has since retired to the basement awaiting an update. I need a new idea for it!
Kathie says
IDEA ME! I’m not the most creative person, but I’ve learned that you can really bring things together in a house by recovering throw pillows to coordinate with leftover fabric after you have recovered chair seats or made new curtains in a room. It also helps with pillows you liked in the store, then discovered after a week or two of use that they attract lint, pet hair or suddenly sprang a mysterious food stain….
