***This giveaway is no longer expecting entries – see who won below!***
Random.org once again spun its wonderful wheel of randomness and selected our two winners as… Amy @ Larryspearslive.com and Amanda Deerr. Congrats ladies!
Raise your hand if you want a $50 Lowe’s gift card. Or better yet, give me a “hootie hoo.” And if the thought of being one of two lucky winners doesn’t instantly get your brain spinning with all of the potential projects that you could tackle, Lowe’s Creative Ideas will happily fill your head with… wait for it… creative ideas. You may already know of the free Lowe’s Creative Ideas magazines (if not, you can subscribe to ’em here), but even we didn’t realize how much content they have on their website and Facebook page. And along with bigger building and DIY ideas they’ve also got decor tutorials (like stamping curtains) and crafty stuff (like making silhouette art) too.
- PRIZE: A $50 gift card to Lowe’s courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “IDEA ME” and…
- BONUS QUESTION: … tell us about your all-time most creative idea. Was it an awesome solution to an everyday problem? A delicious spur-of-the-moment recipe? An ingenious fix to home decor dilemma? Maybe you’ve just stumbled upon a simple household trick that makes your life easier (like letting the dog eat scraps around the highchair instead of vacuuming)?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 14th at 8pm EST
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
- PRIZE SHIPS: The 50 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
Note: We weren’t paid or perked for hosting this giveaway, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics courtesy of Lowe’s Creative Ideas.

I make sure I own more underwear than the hubs, that way he runs out first and does the laundry.
I’m so mean.

I had a poster that I bought at art.com of Van Gogh’s Almond Blossum that I never framed (it was an odd size that I would have to custom frame) and through the course of many moves got banged up a bit. I also had an empty frame (maybe 12’x16′?) that had 3 panes of glass, so you could create some depth by overlapping pictures on the different panes. I cut up the poster and put the pieces in the frame. In a few places I cut the outline of the branch and flower so they looked like they were growing out of the side of the frame. I was so glad that I was able to use the poster in some way since it was no longer fit to be framed.

IDEA ME! Who am I kidding, all the creative ideas I get are totally stolen from you fine people! But when we recently tore out our entire kitchen, we had to do some creative problem solving to figure out a reasonable flow that would work in our weird space. Although it’s not a perfect kitchen triangle, we love it!

I think my best project was in an apartment with a huge picture window that was impossible to curtain for privacy.
I painted a mural on (the inside of) it with watercolor paint. It ended up looking like stained glass from the street and I got the privacy I needed.
When I moved, I wiped it off with a spray bottle of water and a paper towel.

In keeping with the theme of this blog, it was probably my kitchen redesign (12+ years ago so it may be time to revisit). People cannot believe that I drew the plans and my husband built it. I’m now seeing some of my ideas show up on other open floor designs, such as a high back on my counters to hide kitchen clutter.

My most creative idea was to use YOUR creative idea of the Ikea recycle bins for shoe storage. Thanks for passing that along. They solved a 5 year shoe storage problem…we thought custom shelving was our only solution and then along came Young House Love!

We put up paint chips for months to debate about the colour. It saves on repainting the rooms and lets us live with it for a while to make sure we love the color. It also helps to take pictures of the chips so we can plan a whole room’s decor and have all the choices made before any projects happen.

We’ll see how creative I can be if I win the Lowe’s gift card! Probably something decorative yet functional and incorporating something vintage… fingers crossed!

Idea me! I’m crafty, but not at all creative. I collect ideas and then find a way to make them work in my house. (Which translates to: pinterest is the best thing ever.)

We’re going to be using our newly-renovated dining room as a game room most of the time and, as such, we want to hang a TV in there. Unfortunately, the budget is bone dry. So, since it shares a wall with the living room, we’re going to install a box mounted on lazy susans, allowing the TV to be spun into either room as needed!

I use an old decorated spaghetti noodle container as a flower vase – I thought that was pretty creative!

The most creative (and simple) thing in our house is a ledge. My sons’ room is vintage baseball. My older (5) son has been to about 75 minor league baseball games and has collected foul or practice balls from a lot of the games. We wanted a unique way to display the balls. We ended up buying a long, but shallow ledge (for picture frames) from IKEA and displaying the balls on that. It looks so cool in the boys’ room!

We have a new house & just got married (same year – crazy time) – so we actually registered for Lowe’s gift cards. I’m telling you – we wanted that more than cookware!
A great household idea I have comes from way up on the family tree … for generations we’ve used cloth napkins for meals. There’s a ribbon that hangs near the kitchen with clothespins on it – when you come over, you write your name on a clothespin & pin your napkin to it – that’s your napkin for the time you’re visiting, & then your pin stays there for next time you come over. It’s economical, eco-friendly, and a kind of guestbook for the house – genius! :)

I think my most creative idea was turning an ugly old spice rack I found at Goodwill and turning it into my jewelry rack. I took something ugly and made it pretty and functional.

IDEA ME! My brilliant idea was to work with the quirky fireplace mantel and use it as a headboard instead of pushing my bed to one side of it.

I’m not always the most creative person but sometimes crazy ideas pop in my head, for my daughter’s first birthday I wanted her to have something special for her birthday, so instead of the regular gifts, I had each member of the family write her a little letter/note and made it into a book. Hoping to continue the tradtion every year :)

I think my most creative idea’s are either in cooking and my picture frame door over the electric panel in our kitchen. you can see it here: http://distressedinva.blogspot.com/2011/07/project-electrical-panel.html

IDEA ME! This is altogether too stressful to try and come up with my “all-time most creative idea ever”. Anything I think of results in me thinking, “Really? That’s the most creative I’ve ever been? Definitely not good enough.”
So, here’s a slightly creative thing I do: I use the reusable totes for carrying wine to pack my fancy shoes when we go on vacation – that way they don’t rub against each other and scuff.

After my husband oiled the hinges on our bathroom door it no longer squeaks, but it also no longer stays put. It naturally hangs about halfway open, and is perfectly positioned for me to bang my elbows on the nob when I’m prepping at the sink. I constantly have bruises on my shins, I wasn’t happy to add bruises on my arms as well.
So I put in a magnetic door catch that holds it all the way open. Problem solved.

One Thanksgiving, I organized all the kids in the family to make their own Christmas ornaments. I gave them glitter, paint pens, and lots of other things to get their creative juices flowing. Everyone got to take home their creations and hang them on their trees.

I wanted a large mirror in our living room to brighten up the space, but I didn’t want to pay the price for one. So, I found a frameless bathroom mirror for $10 on craigslist from someone’s renovation, framed it with leftover oak flooring, and it looks great!

My most creative idea was to take an ugly, cheap, college style (fake veneer wood etc.) desk and turn it new with mod podge and a whole stack of “scrapbook” items. My husband and I had taken a 8 month round the world trip, but in reality I was never going to actually make a scrapbook with the items I collected during the trip. Now, I can look at the items from our trip everyday and we have a great, colorful re-purposed desk in our office!
