Wow. You guys are a lot more opinionated about the periodic table than I had assumed. Anyways, random.org selected the winner of this giveaway as… Andi W. (who likes Sodium for all of the salty snacks it provides, but admitted “My inner nerd wants to vote adamantium.”) Congrats Andi!
Hold onto your seats, chemistry nerds. We’re giving away some magnesium this week. It’s coming in the form of Oreck’s latest and lightest-weight upright vacuum ever – the Magnesium. In fact, at less than 8lbs it weighs in at about half the poundage of an ordinary upright. Not to mention its skinny but strong frame slides naturally under furniture and other hard-to-reach dust bunny havens. Oreck’s also throwing in the Ultimate Handheld Vac to round out your cleaning repertoire – and to boost the prize value to nearly $600!
- PRIZE: An Oreck Magnesium upright vacuum and the Oreck Ultimate Handheld Vac (a $599 value).
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “Mg ME!” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: … (you ready for this?) what’s your favorite element on the periodic table? Are you a big fan of Oxygen because of the whole breathing thing? Or Sodium because you’re a salty food addict? Or perhaps good ol’ Au & Ag (aka Gold and Silver)?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, June 27th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- DISCOUNT: 15% off any Oreck product with code YOUNGHOUSELOVE (valid through July 9, excludes sale or refurbished items)
- PRIZE SHIPS: The United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Oreck.

Seeing that I don’t remember much of my college chemistry classes I think I will just have to go with carbon since my archaeology major discussed that element in excoriating detail thanks to radiocarbon dating.
Margaret says
Mg Me! I’ll say carbon, because I am very fond of the carbon-based life forms in my life… my husband and 2 cute kiddos. :-)
Erin says
Mg ME!!!
I have a whole new appreciation for the periodic table, goes back to meeting my now (cute & geeky) hubby who is a chemist. Gotta go with O, as my favorite element, where would we all be without it.

Katie says

My favorite is fluorine because in high school each student had to give a presentation on an element and that was mine. I made up a song to the tune of “Girls” by the Beastie Boys, which was definitely lost on my lame classmates.
Danyelle says
Mg Me!
I like potassium.
Jane @ The Borrowed Abode says

MG ME!! I’m a fan of K….potassium. I love bananas!
victoria says
Mg me, and I’m going to have to say technetium, because it is just whack that it’s not found in nature being where it is on the periodic table. (Nerd alert!)
Kierstin says
Mg ME!!
I must confess, in high school chemistry we were supposed to memorize the entire periodic table of elements, and then we were tested on this. I refused, in protest to the ridiculousness of the task. There was no point other than blatant memorization, no applied knowledge or learning. And I stand by my decision today.
My favorite is Cadmium (Cd). I actually knew plenty of the elements when the test was handed out, but I refused to write any in to prove my point. And gee, I’ve never had to use them…and do you notice how there’s always a HUGE replication of the table on the wall? So why memorize???
I hope my rant doesn’t prevent me from winning the vacuum. That would be sweet!
Sara says
Mg ME! I love my salty snacks…chex mix is my weakness. Na is my favorite element for sure!
Katie Lewis says
Mg me! I like oxygen…it helps me breath!!!
Sarah J. says

With the 4th of July around the corner I will have to say Copper (Cu) because Copper mixed with a little Chlorine (Cl) makes the turquoise blue flash within a firework… It’s fun to make your own sparklers!!!

I like sodium because it explodes and lights up in a beautiful color!

Jenn C. says
Mg ME! I have to say Hu, the Human element. I know it’s not real but I think the commercials that have been running with that as the tag line are clever. I did always hate chemistry..
Erin says
Mg ME!
I nearly failed Chemistry in high school, so it’s laughable that I’m commenting on this, but, I would say Krypton. I have no idea what it does, but it reminds me of Superman and it’s a noble gas. Those two things make it seem pretty cool.
Carolyn Ellsworth says
Mg me! And, I honestly wouldn’t be able to name you an element in the periodic table besides the ones you just listed. Ekk! I guess I should have paid more attention.
