Wow. You guys are a lot more opinionated about the periodic table than I had assumed. Anyways, random.org selected the winner of this giveaway as… Andi W. (who likes Sodium for all of the salty snacks it provides, but admitted “My inner nerd wants to vote adamantium.”) Congrats Andi!
Hold onto your seats, chemistry nerds. We’re giving away some magnesium this week. It’s coming in the form of Oreck’s latest and lightest-weight upright vacuum ever – the Magnesium. In fact, at less than 8lbs it weighs in at about half the poundage of an ordinary upright. Not to mention its skinny but strong frame slides naturally under furniture and other hard-to-reach dust bunny havens. Oreck’s also throwing in the Ultimate Handheld Vac to round out your cleaning repertoire – and to boost the prize value to nearly $600!
- PRIZE: An Oreck Magnesium upright vacuum and the Oreck Ultimate Handheld Vac (a $599 value).
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “Mg ME!” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: … (you ready for this?) what’s your favorite element on the periodic table? Are you a big fan of Oxygen because of the whole breathing thing? Or Sodium because you’re a salty food addict? Or perhaps good ol’ Au & Ag (aka Gold and Silver)?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, June 27th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- DISCOUNT: 15% off any Oreck product with code YOUNGHOUSELOVE (valid through July 9, excludes sale or refurbished items)
- PRIZE SHIPS: The United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Oreck.

Mg Me!
and I’m a big fan of oxygen. ;o)
JMac says
Mg Me!
I am a high school chem teacher, so I love that yall asked this questions. haha! I will have to say carbon because it is the basis of organic chem (my favorite) and it is the element that makes up diamonds :)
Gary says
Mg ME!
Cu, its gotta be copper!
Carrie says
Mg Me!!!
Definitely Pt (Platinum)!!!!
Susan M. says

mG me!!! I like lead because of how we used to remember it. pB = plumbers butt!
terri d. says
Mg ME!! Be (beryllium) is a fav, primarily because in high school I could actually remember where it was on the periodic table…
Meghan says
Mg ME! and I love W…Tungsten. It is so weird!
Tiffany says
Mg ME!!!!!!!
While I AM tempted to list Oxygen as my favorite – pretty much since my life depends on it- I will have to go with Iron, simple because it was the most fun for me to remember that Iron’s symbol was Fe. I have NEVER forgotten that since all my days in chemistry. Ironically, I am slightly anemic and depend on iron quite a bit:)
Lanie says
FE – Iron! This was my element in science class, we were all called by our elements to remember the table.
Laura D. says
Mg ME!!! Kinda crazy, but my favorite element is probably Chlorine (Cl) because i loved my childhood summers spent entirely at the pool!
Claire says
Mg ME! Hydrogen. Simple and essential.
Sarah W. says
Mg ME!
I like Au because the symbol is sort of undercover because it doesn’t hint that it means gold.
Elina says
Mg ME!
I love all things gold!
Katie says
Mg ME!! Sodium :)
Allie says
Mg me! I don’t have a favorite element, but I DO have a favorite song about the periodic table! It is by Tom Leher and it is fabulous.
Elizabeth E says
Mg Me!
Let’s go with mercury (glass) :)
Kylie says
“Mg ME!”
Tungsten. I had to do a report on it in middle school and I’ve won trivia points for knowing that it’s W in the periodic table.
Sally says
Mg Me!! I’ll choose Pt (platinum).
22209 says
Mg ME! Oxygen may be my actual favorite, but that seems too easy. I think I’ll go with Dubnium (symbol Db, number 105). It’s a funny name, and apparently doesn’t even occur naturally. I think it should get credit for making it onto the periodic table against all odds.
Morgan says
Mg ME!
And I like neon!
Erin F. says
Mg ME!!! I would say Hydrogen because it was the easiest for me to remember in high school Chemistry, and it was about the only thing I could remember in that class.
stephanie says
Mg Me!!
C is my favorite since it the basis of all living things. and living things are cool.
Courtney says
Mg ME!!! I don’t have a favorite element, I had to take chemistry twice in college and I’ve never forgiven the elements since :)
Rachel says
Mg ME!!!
Brooks Smith says
Mg me!!!
He b/c it makes you talk funny:)
Elizabeth says
Mg ME!
I’m a fan of Ca, not just for the obvious bone-strengthening properties, but because of how vital it is for the rest of our bodies as well. It’s such an interesting element.
Lindsey says
MG ME!!!!
I have no clue about the periodical table but if you only knew how bad I need a new vacuum!!!! I REALLY REALLY hope I win this!!
Karen says
Mg ME!
Neon is my current favorite — it’s always a solution in my crossword puzzle.
Kelly F. says
Mg ME!
Not sure I have a favorite element . . . maybe H and O since they make up water :)
Robert says
Mg ME!
Amanda says
Mg me! I’d say potassium, because I like the purple flame in a flame test. But then I’m a chem dork, and the periodic table actually makes me really happy.
tambryn says
Mg ME.
Plutonium because even if it can’t be a planet, it can hold in as an element.
leslie says
Mg me! Xenon is my favorite because it has eight stable isotopes (eight is my favorite number) which is more than any other element but tin, is used in neuroprotectants, to kill bacteria and power ruby lasers. It was also used as fuel in an experimental ion engine aboard Deep Space 1. All dorkiness aside, I need a new vacuum. Mine sucks…actually, no it doesn’t suck at all! It is on it’s last puff. It can’t even pick up a pebble.
Oh, I also really liked the Disney movie Xenon: Girl of the 21st Century…which is why i ended up reading about Xenon in the first place.
Melanie says
Mg ME!!!
Oxygen… pretty lame, huh. :-)
Mary A says
Mg ME! My favorite element is C Carbon, it’s the stuff life is made of.
Nikkidd says
Mg Me!!!
I think my favorite element is Pb (lead) because I was always so proud of myself for remembering that one when it made no sense whatsoever in school.
stephanie says
Mg ME!!
Oxygen!
Rebecca @This Nest is Best says
Mg Me!
Melinda T says
Mg ME!
LOL, great question! Chemistry in high school was fun…too bad I don’t remember much of it! But I’d have to say oxygen! Its obviously very important and vital!
Jen S says
Mg ME!!! I’m a huge fan of Helium. Specifically sucking it out of balloons. It’s just SO FUNNY!!!
Jenn K. says
