Wow. You guys are a lot more opinionated about the periodic table than I had assumed. Anyways, random.org selected the winner of this giveaway as… Andi W. (who likes Sodium for all of the salty snacks it provides, but admitted “My inner nerd wants to vote adamantium.”) Congrats Andi!
Hold onto your seats, chemistry nerds. We’re giving away some magnesium this week. It’s coming in the form of Oreck’s latest and lightest-weight upright vacuum ever – the Magnesium. In fact, at less than 8lbs it weighs in at about half the poundage of an ordinary upright. Not to mention its skinny but strong frame slides naturally under furniture and other hard-to-reach dust bunny havens. Oreck’s also throwing in the Ultimate Handheld Vac to round out your cleaning repertoire – and to boost the prize value to nearly $600!
- PRIZE: An Oreck Magnesium upright vacuum and the Oreck Ultimate Handheld Vac (a $599 value).
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “Mg ME!” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: … (you ready for this?) what’s your favorite element on the periodic table? Are you a big fan of Oxygen because of the whole breathing thing? Or Sodium because you’re a salty food addict? Or perhaps good ol’ Au & Ag (aka Gold and Silver)?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, June 27th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- DISCOUNT: 15% off any Oreck product with code YOUNGHOUSELOVE (valid through July 9, excludes sale or refurbished items)
- PRIZE SHIPS: The United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Oreck.

Mg Me! My favorite element is Fe… Iron! I grew up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan which is rich in IRON ore. My home town is IRON Mountain and I went to college in IRONwood! I remember, as a kid, walking down the railroad tracks near our home and gathering IRON pellets that were being shipped to the local foundry to make cast IRON parts for machinery. There are alot of uses for those pellets! (especially when you have 2 brothers and a couple slingshots! YIKES!) IRON has been ever present in my life. Even my doctor reminds me to get more of it!

I like Es “Einsteinium” mostly because it was named after Albert Einstein. Making it automatically way cooler than the other elements. :)
Sara says
Mg me! Al (aluminium), K (potassium), and H (hydrogen) are the most important “elements” in my life.

Ammie says
Cr- Chromium – because it sounds like it’d be a superhero’s fave and us moms are superheroes!

Mg ME! Great giveaway! My company actually designed the Magnesium! :) You would think I’d have one but I don’t!

I’m a big fan of Yt (yttrium) because I love the way it’s spelled.

Mg Me!! My favorite element is sulfur, because I study organisms that can use it for energy!
Jennifer says

Mg Me! I don’t care for chemistry, but I should probably say Mercury (Hg) since my husband spent 5 years of graduate work studying it…lol
Evan says
Mg ME! Oh, please, please, I really need a vacuum to clean up all this dog hair! Fe…iron. Not sure why, just like it
Tracey says
Mg me! Don’t really have a favorite. But oxygen is pretty important I guess.
Jessica says
Mg me! My favorite element is helium – who doesn’t like balloons?
Cair says
Mg Me!
Ok, I’ll go with mercury, because it forms into cool little balls. Too bad it’s poisonous! Otherwise it would be incredibly fun to play with.

Ne, I love Neon!

My favorite’s actually magnesium. A family friend used to throw pellets of it into bonfires, and it burns incredibly bright. If you throw water on it to try to extinguish it, it creates a mushroom-cloud-esque effect. So cool (though dangerous if a magnesium plant is on fire…)

Sb – Antimony
Besides being my married initials, it’s a fun play on “anti-money”. fun fact: “anti + monos” = “not alone”

How terrible is it that I had to go look at the table. Can’t remember but a handful of them. I’d have to say lutetium caught my eye, as we refer to our daughter by Lu.
Care says
“Mg ME!”
After just finishing a semester of organic chemistry and biochemistry all the elements are my friends :)
Mandy says
Mg ME!
Oh, this is a good one! I would have to go with argon ;)
Jessica says

I’d say oxygen is pretty important :)

MG ME!!!
Ok, I don’t really have a favorite element – well except when someone is being catchy and lines a few up to make a word (BAZINGA!!!).
Last week I was using the hose to vacuum out the lint trap on my dryer and I didn’t realize the floor piece still sucked when you used the hose. So, the vacuum AND my favorite pair of pajama bottoms died that day. I could seriously use a new vacuum!

Mg me! Sodium, so accurate for me, have to salt everything!
