Wow. You guys are a lot more opinionated about the periodic table than I had assumed. Anyways, random.org selected the winner of this giveaway as… Andi W. (who likes Sodium for all of the salty snacks it provides, but admitted “My inner nerd wants to vote adamantium.”) Congrats Andi!
Hold onto your seats, chemistry nerds. We’re giving away some magnesium this week. It’s coming in the form of Oreck’s latest and lightest-weight upright vacuum ever – the Magnesium. In fact, at less than 8lbs it weighs in at about half the poundage of an ordinary upright. Not to mention its skinny but strong frame slides naturally under furniture and other hard-to-reach dust bunny havens. Oreck’s also throwing in the Ultimate Handheld Vac to round out your cleaning repertoire – and to boost the prize value to nearly $600!
- PRIZE: An Oreck Magnesium upright vacuum and the Oreck Ultimate Handheld Vac (a $599 value).
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “Mg ME!” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: … (you ready for this?) what’s your favorite element on the periodic table? Are you a big fan of Oxygen because of the whole breathing thing? Or Sodium because you’re a salty food addict? Or perhaps good ol’ Au & Ag (aka Gold and Silver)?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, June 27th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- DISCOUNT: 15% off any Oreck product with code YOUNGHOUSELOVE (valid through July 9, excludes sale or refurbished items)
- PRIZE SHIPS: The United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Oreck.

I’m going to have to go with Mg because this vacuum is awesome and if they named it after Mg, then that has to be the best on the periodic table!

I love anything silver so AG has to be my favorite… plus it’s kind of tricky. And AU is gold (I love me some gold too)!
Joy says
Mg me! I’ve never been asked this before… I my first thought was gold! I love gold! Plus it reminds me always of a sex and the city quote ” You wear gold jewelry. – Yeah, like ghetto gold, for fun. But this is my engagement ring.” Love it!
Katie G says
Mg ME! My favorite element is #74 Tungsten because in 11th grade I asked a cute boy in chemistry class what his favorite element was (cool line, I know) and that was his answer.
It’s 14 years later and that boy is now my husband. :)
Lissa says

Funny story…My family and I journey to Ferrum annually for the Folklife Festival. There is a coondog race across the lake and a dog that is named H2SO4; the looks on peoples’ faces as they try to figure out the name, priceless! It’s sulfuric acid…explosive.
Why can I hear Sheldon from Big Bang singing the element song?? :)
Katie says
Mg ME! I love silver – jewelry, decor, everything!!

Mg Me! Pb (lead) is my favorite element mostly because the latin name is plumbum, which happens to be where we get the word plumber since pipes used to be made of lead. (Ok, showing me true inner nerd…)

That question feels like it could have a wrong answer to it, which is how I spent all of high school chemistry. Flashback city! For the record, I’m kinda partial to the hydrogen + oxygen relationship.

Mg Me….Please!
Although I am slightly ashamed that I had to look it up, I do recall that Tungsten (W) was my favorite for a couple of reasons. 1. it was in the center of the table, 2. it sounded like another word i knew, 3. It was silly that “W” was what it was known by.
Dalia says

Zinc
Sally says

I like He, it just seems happy!

Mg ME! I’m actually a big fan of Lithium. As a photographer, I’ve come to rely heavily on it for the durability and longevity in my camera and equipment. If lithium fails, my camera fails…and I fail. So I know it seems silly, but I need lithium as much as I need oxygen haha.
