Thanks to random.org’s trusty randomness, we’ve got our winner and it is… Gretchen B (whose husband is “a mastermind with wood. He can make almost anything, at times he has surprised himself at what he canters up.”). That sounds familiar. Congrats Gretchen!
Sorry this post is a few minutes late (380 pages of book proofing = crazytown). But Happy Almost Father’s Day everyone! To help us celebrate, Home Depot is giving away an $100 man card, er, gift card so one lucky reader gets a fast and easy way to show their handy hubby/dad/uncle/brother/grandpa/neighbor how much they care… or how much they really want them to finish that project. Home Depot’s also throwing in a RYOBI 18V ONE+ Lithium Ion Compact Drill Kit (valued at $150) because no tool collection is complete without a power drill and driver. Plus this one weighs less than three pounds and the battery lasts four times longer than your everyday battery. So guys, I’ll guess we’ll all have to come up with another excuse to take a break from our to-do lists.
- PRIZE: A $100 Home Depot gift card and a RYOBI 18V ONE+ Lithium Ion Compact Drill Kit
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: … what’s the “manliest” quality of the person you’re celebrating this coming weekend. Do you admire your dad’s ability to fix anything? Do you just love seeing the father of your children with a little bit of stubble? Or maybe the way your brother plays with your nieces earns him major guy-points in your book?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, June 13th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: The United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Home Depot.

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!!
The manliest thing about my husband is that he defies stereotype. He’s a math teacher, a former construction worker, a current doctoral student, an amazing partner in our DIY adventure, a runner with 20 marathons (and half iron man) under his belt and he knits. And he was a knitter before it became trendy to knit. And he’s a wonderful papa to our two fur babies. I’m kinda crazy about my husband if you can’t tell. :-)

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY! I admire my dad’s ability to keep a secret. He was a member of the National Security Agency during the Korean War and I never knew it until he gave my husband a book about the NSA about 20 years ago. My mom didn’t really know what he was up to during those years either!

HAPPY FATHER’s DAY!!
My father deserves special recognition for being diagnosed with a brain tumor 3 years ago and being an absolute rock star in the aftermath! Despite being afflicted with aphasia (a language disorder), he continues to work hard to find ways to enjoy his life and contribute to the world. He has started a non-profit organization called “Brain Buddy” to support others also afflicted with aphasia, and has been competing in bike races that most of us couldn’t do on our best days (he is doing a century race -that’s right, 100 miles on a road bike- on Father’s day this year, in fact). So watching him continue to thrive despite the obstacles he has faced is what I admire most about my father.

Happy Father’s Day! So funny, I just got off the phone asking for recommendations for a drill to buy hubby for Father’s Day! In answer to the poll…I admire my man’s relaxed ability to handle stress. I tend to get bogged down by little things, but he is the breadwinner for a family of 5 plus 2 furries and one (soon to be two) houses. He makes it look so easy!

My man can sew. I know I know, not traditionally manly, but sometimes doing the opposite of manly makes you seem more manly (like cuddling puppies or newborns). He’s not a dad yet, but we’re actively trying! Yippee!
