Our winner, thanks to the willy nilly matchmaking skills of random.org, is… Sharon (who’s hoping to be matched up with a piece of art to finish off a master bedroom renovation). Congrats!
Art.com is full of affordable stuff to help solve Naked Wall Syndrome (like these horse prints that we recently purchased) so we’re psyched that they’re giving away an $250 gift card to one of you lucky folks this week. They’ve launched a new tool called Match My Image that promises to come in handy next time you’re hunting for the perfect piece. You just upload an image – maybe of a fabric that you’re trying to coordinate or a photo that you’re using as inspiration – and it spits out a slew of art in that color scheme/vein that’s available for purchase. Here’s what we happened upon when we uploaded a couple of personal pictures (a photo of the river here in Richmond and a painting that Clara recently whipped up). Fun, right?
- PRIZE: A $250 gift card to Art.com
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “MATCH ME!” and…
- BONUS QUESTION: … tell us if you’ve ever tried playing matchmaker? Or has someone else tried to match you up? How did it all work out? Was it amazing? Or should you (or your would-be matchmaker) stick to their day job?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, July 13th at 8pm EST
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: The United States
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday morning for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
Note: We weren’t paid or perk’d for hosting this giveaway, we just take them on to reward our lovely readers! See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics from Art.com.

Quite a few years back one of my good friends try to set me up with her then boyfriend’s cousin. It was a blind date and he brought me to a sushi restaurant-I hate sushi. I don’t know why but not asking em what I like before settling on the place bothered me.

MATCH ME!
I’ve played matchmaker once. They had a great time, they liked each other, and then… they never went out again ([temporary] geographic undesirability and conflicting schedules). I was so upset because they were SO PERFECT FOR EACH OTHER! And then I realized that I got way too invested and I don’t want to put myself on the line like that again, so… no more matchmaking for me!

I just recently played matchmaker with my younger brother who is 26. I did a blog post about him and linked it up to a larger blog’s singles link party. I got lots of responses and he is currently phone chatting with one of the responders! So we’ll see how it goes! He told me “ok you can stop pimping me out now.” LOL

I did play matchmaker a few times.
First time: the guy was a friend from high school (who also happened to the be the brother of my sister’s best friend) and the girl was my college roomie/best friend. I had always had a slight crush on this guy but when I met my BFF in college, I just knew they’d be great together. I always told her about him and said that someday I’d introduce them. He and I had lost touch but he was just across the street at another school, so even prior to Facebook times it probably wouldn’t be hard to get in touch with him. Ironically, around the same time I was looking for him, another friend said she met a guy at her new church who I might know… and it ended up being HIM. So then I was a little nervous that she was interested in him and I wouldn’t be able to hook him up with my BFF. Sigh. Soooo I suggested the 4 of us all hang out sometime. We did a few times and guy friend pretty much did the rest of the work for me. He and BFF started dated and he’d even met her parents (in a short few months), but then sadly over the summer he called her and broke it off. She was very hurt and I was confused. But I made it known very quickly that she was my BFF and I would not talk with/ hang out with him anymore. Sweetly, she told me that wasn’t necessary, but I still kept my distance. To this day, she is still my BFF and has married a super guy and they have a super adorable little boy (my godson), and well I am still friends and keep in touch with guy friend, who is still singular.
Second and final attempt at matchmaking: my friends and I joined an internet dating website “for kicks” one year during college. I started talking to a guy that seemed nice, okay looking, and we had a bit in common. Evidently we both spent our early years in the same town and church and knew the some of the same people. He was closer to my sister’s age so he vaguely remembered her (but not me, nor did I remember him). My BFF and friend (both from previous matchmaking attempt) knew I was talknig to him but I think I got weirded out when he wanted to meet. So ya know what I did? I gave him my friend’s screen name (not the BFF) and told them both that I thought they were better suited for each other (no offense internet guy). Turns out I was kind of right… they dated for a few months… until, dun dun dunnnn he broke up with her for another gal. I asked him what the deal was with all of that and he confided into me about meeting this girl and even though they were complete opposites, they were madly in love and getting married ASAP! And ya know what? They did! They are still married, but still have issues with their difference of religion (um, I warned ya about that, buddy). But don’t be sad for my other friend, she’s happily dating someone SHE met online all by herself.

A friend tried to match me up once, so I turned it back on her. She kept telling me what a great guy he was, so I suggested that if he was so great, she should date him herself. She did, and they were together for over a year, but it didn’t work out in the end.

I’ve played matchmaker twice. The first one ended in a happy 10-years-and-counting marriage. The second? An utter failure. Like, they both wondered what I had been thinking!

MATCH ME!! One of my best friends matched me up with a guy once. Judging by the fact that I will soon be marrying that guy and we just purchased our first home together (which of course led me to this amazing blog), I’d say she did a pretty good job! Thank you, Amy!

A random number generator was my matchmaker! My husband and I met online playing World of Warcraft, and wouldn’t have ever talked if a random number generator hadn’t put us on the same game server! There were a few more required ‘miracles’ after that point, however that was the kicker.
Loving this new tool Art.com has! Great for inspirational DIY pieces too.
