The winner of this week’s giveaway can literally make that request. Because Swedish-born Virginia-based artist Erica Eriksdotter is giving away a commissioned painting worth up to $350. - TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “PAINT ME A PICTURE!” and…
- BONUS QUESTION: …tell us about your favorite piece of one-of-a-kind artwork that you currently own. Maybe it’s a finger painting done by a kid in your life? Something you got on etsy? Or a drawing that you sketched yourself to fill some blank space?

my favorite piece of artwork is our one of a kind “family tree” we used as our guest book at our wedding! we had guests leave thumb prints in the tree of different shades of green to pose as leaves! i had our stationary designer add, “WE WERE HERE” etched into the tree trunk. we opted for no signatures on the tree so that it’d remain a piece of artwork that we’d actually want to hang up in our house!

My Mom is a very talented artist and teacher, so my favorite original artwork is obviously courtesy of her! She did an amazing charcoal drawing of Poseidon. She actually covered the canvas in charcoal and ‘drew’ with an eraser.

My favorite piece of art is a tiny, i mean tiny painting i got in italy.
it is no more than an inch and a half wide and two inches tall…max. despite its small size it is full of rich details and amazing colors.
i have it matted on very large white mat and a HUGE chunky gold frame.
the extreme size contrast makes the piece even more interesting.

My favorite piece we have now is a watercolor painting of a simple flower. The artist used a real flower to paint over it, then removing it to leave a beautiful white flower outline surrounded by green, violet, and blue paint. I bought it off of a student artist for the senior capstone show when I was in college as I worked in the Fine Arts Department setting up gallery shows-I always got first choice.

My favorite piece at home is a US flag my husband chiseled on a small wood piece while we were serving as Peace Corps Volunteers. I love it in all its rugged imperfectness. It reminds me of both home and our country of service, but most importantly it reminds me to take risks (since my husband hadn’t ever chiseled).
