PAINT ME A PICTURE!
My favorite piece is a photo my husband took on our honeymoon. We blew it up and it’s been hanging over our bed since we moved into our house right after getting married. I love the constant reminder of our first “real” vacation together.

My favorite piece(s) of art are the photographs my husband took of his years living in China. They are just beautiful to look at and seem to capture the essence of the land and people.

All of my favorites are connected to a special memory… a painting purchased during the first weekend trip my fiance and I went on together to Laguna Beach, a framed postcard series from when we lived in San Francisco, photos of the beautiful nature of Zion and Sedona from some of our best hikes… There are too many great ones to choose just one! :) If I won this I would ask Erica to paint a golden Ginkgo leaf to remind me of my favorite time of year (fall) and my amazing father who has amazing Ginkgo trees throughout his yard.

An original Semmler. I grew up by the sea and now away from it i wanted some beach and salty mist in my apartment. I sprayed white shells and rocks and put them in a white shadow box and glued them on a piece of linen. Looks quite soothing.

My favorite piece of artwork is a print of the cathedral in Florence, Italy. I bought it during my high school senior class trip to Italy and even haggled the price with the street vendor! My parents had it framed as a graduation present, and my current bedroom is inspired by the colors and feelings of it.

PAINT ME A PICTURE! I actually started trying to paint a few small pieces to hang in our home. I love them, but I’ve been too scared to hang them anywhere other than in my closet. Maybe someday I’ll get up the courage! Until then, maybe one of Erica’s great pieces could be the show piece in our home!

when i travel i like to pick up a piece of art or local craft as a souvenir, in lieu of tacky mugs and tshirts and other junk. I’d be hardpressed to choose a favorite…perhaps the 3 beautiful handmade papercuttings (wycinanki–google them!) i bought while a student in poland, and which now hang above my desk? The other that comes to mind is a wooden picture that was made for me by a orphaned child with disabilities living in ukraine. I donated some art supplies to the orphanage a couple years back, and received this beautiful work of art in thanks :) i love it!

My favorite picture is a drawing my brother did when he was in preschool. It is of my dad — green, dented head; orange eyes; pig nose; large ears. The picture isn’t quite as accurate as the description underneath: ‘I love my daddy because he pushes me on the swing and plays golf with me. He is my best friend.” Oh to be young again!

My favorite piece of art is an illustration my husband did as a kid of a bicycle. He’s an avid cyclist now, and makes me love it even more :) I framed it up and keep it next to all the other one-of-a-kind art we have on our “masterpiece” wall.

Some of my favorite art in our home is a collection of 1ft by 1ft pictures that when connected make the MC Escher eye. I got it in highschool, everyone drew one part of the whole picture so all the pieces are unique. Another favorite is a set of photographs my uncle took of the smokey mountains in fall.

My favorite piece is a photograph I took during our last vacation at Lake Tahoe. I got up in the middle of the night and drove halfway around the lake to set up for a sunrise shot. It didn’t turn out exactly how I imagined but every time I look at it, I remember what I went through to “get the shot”!

With the exception of one or two pieces, all of our art (both paintings and photographs) has been done/taken by someone in our family. They all hold very special memories. My most favorites though, are the first paintings that both of my boys did at school – one is hanging right by my desk in the kitchen and the other is hanging on a wall in our bedroom.
