PAINT ME A PICTURE!
My mom’s magnolia painting– she painted it when I was a little girl, and it’s just a simple, o’keefe-style magnolia, but I love walking in the door and seeing it everyday! I remember her painting it, and it makes me smile. :-)

When my husband and I bought our house, the realtor gave us a painting of the house. I love it now, because we have done so much to the house it reminds me of how far we’ve come!

My favorite, hands down, is a painting of my son and I. A local artist asked us to model for her drawing group when he was a newborn. He fell asleep on my shoulder and we sat there peacefully for about an hour.
She ended up doing a beautiful painting based on her drawing from the night…which of course we had to purchase. Worth every penny!

My favorite piece is a piece a friend drew of a photo of my husband and I as a surprise. It was a photo of us at our college stadium at a football game (my favorite place in town!). Now I have a great canvas of our favorite place from a dear friend.

My favorite piece is actually 2 pieces that my husband made out of typography cards found when cleaning out his office. We had a huge wall in our new house that was begging for some big art. Each of the cards, probably 4 x 8 each, are arranged on 2 pieces of plywood and then screwed into a bigger homemade frame. My husband is an artist and added his own touch on top with some paint and paper mache. They’re huge and I love them!

I have a set of five black-and-white photographs that my sister– who was working on her BFA at the time– took with a 35mm camera when we were driving across the country a few years ago. She developed them by hand in a darkroom for her photography class. They are mostly landscapes– I love how they show the variation in the land as we crossed the country, all while telling the story of our week on the road!

I have a still life painting my Grandfather painted as a young man. He was very artistic and a painter by trade, so my grandparent’s house was full of his art. When myGrandmother passed away and we sold the house, I kept this painting and it now hangs over my couch in the family room.

I surprised my husband for his birthday with a custom DNA portrait just a couple weeks ago. I had to trick him into giving me his DNA (don’t ask me how), chose our wedding colours (black and red) and got a one of a kind piece of art made specifically for my husband and I. I love looking at it on the wall because of what it means.

I love our carved wooden murals that hang in the TV room. We found these at a local consignment store. What a find! I love that they were “past their prime” in someone elses home and are now a treasured peice in ours. Kind of like adopting a homeless pet from the shelter.

I have a lot of artwork in my house that I painted myself. It’s fun when people compliment the pieces and ask where I got them. But by far my favorite pieces are a trio of sculptures that my best friend made. He made a bunch more as a set but couldn’t keep them all once they were finished in his installation and was going to throw some away. I snagged them and 1) they remind me of him now that he moved far away 2) his work sells for megabucks now, so I couldn’t afford him and 3) they’re great conversation pieces. I’m a lucky lady.

My paintings from Paris- they are simple student works for $20 a pop but I had them framed really well like they were masterpieces because in my mind they are. I love one of a kind art- it is so much more meaningful.

My husband painted a replica of one of my favorite paintings – the singing butler by Jack Vettriano. He presented it to me when he popped the question on August 29, 2003. Since our interest in art was what bonded us together, it means a lot to me. If it wasn’t for art, he wouldn’t have pursued me.
