Since our eyes are constantly peeled for fun nursery art lately, we’re psyched to bring you this week’s giveaway from Grace Hester Designs. And even if you’re not expecting a little one, you might just spot the perfect piece to commemorate your wedding, your brood, or even your love of foreign languages amongst Grace’s type and silhouette-based art.
We love the idea of our little beanette learning some Spanish numbers or French animal names through these punchy designs (or even picking up a Chinese character or two). And it’s because of Grace’s fun range of prints that we couldn’t bear to narrow down this week’s prize to a specific group of designs – so TWO of you are gonna score a $50 credit toward anything in Grace’s etsy shop.
Here are this week’s entry details:
- PRIZE: A $50 credit towards any item from Grace Hester Designs
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “GRACE ME” and…
- BONUS QUESTION: …share with us your favorite word or saying from another language. Do you love the way a certain Italian word rolls off your tongue? Or maybe you have a go-to phrase that you learned when traveling abroad? If nothing else, is there an English word that sounds especially funny to you in Pig Latin?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, February 17th at 8pm EST
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
- PRIZE SHIPS: All over the globe!
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

GRACE ME! One of my favorite sayings from Guatemala is “poco a poco” (little by little) because that is the state of mind of the Guatemalan people. They don’t need or expect things all at once, just little by little.

i don’t know if it would be my favorite saying, but how i came to learn it was pretty funny. it’s “peggo pa” (i’m not sure if the spelling is correct) but it’s korean for “i’m hungry” i had asked my guy friend (who is korean) how to say “i love you” in korean, and he responds with “why does EVERY GIRL want to know how to say i love you? never anything else, always i love you!” so i sat there thinking of a phrase that i would say frequently and i asked, “how do you say i’m hungry?”

I think if I win this I will give it as a gift to my expecting friend who is working on the nursery as we speak!
I like to throw in tiny bits of my limited Spanish, like “por favor” and “donde esta” and “mas rapido” (that one’s fun because you can really roll the “r” in “rapido”), but my favorite language to sing in is French because it just flows off the tongue! I don’t know how to spell any of that though! And of course, going back to my local roots (PA Deutsch), when someone sneezes you have to say “gesundheit!”

My favorite word is Krooglastootichna (I’m guessing at the English spelling). It means 24 hours or around the clock in Russian. Why my Russian professor thought I’d need to know this word in Russian is beyond me but I’m so glad she taught it to me.

We love to store stuff that we actually have laying around to keep things organized. A few examples of things that live in deep baskets at Casa Petersik are: blankets for the sofa, towels in the bathroom’s open closet, books and magazines to read in the sunroom and the den, toys for the bean (yup, we’ve already ammassed quite a few), board games, etc. Hope it helps!
