Yes, I know it looks like I have a misplaced apostrophe up there, but trust me on this one. This week’s prize will have one of you sending handwritten greetings across all seasons of the year (see, I’m looking less punctuationally deviant already).
As you may recall from Friday’s thank-you-to-our-sponsors post, Emmy Lu Design Studio is an awesome source for beautiful custom stationery with a DIY twist. Once you pick the style and fill in the custom details (whether it be a holiday card, personal stationery, an invitation or even a baby announcement) Emmy Lu hooks you up with a ready-to-print PDF. That means you can print as many as you want (whether you need five or five million), on any paper you want (bargain or mega-fancy-pants), for as long as you want (the file’s yours for eternity). Kinda genius, no?
And since it’s nearly impossible to pick your favorite design, this week’s winner is getting a year’s worth of them! That means a new card/invite/announcement of the winner’s choosing for every month of the year (which loosely translates to 12 excuses to throw a party, pen a thank you note or even write your mom a letter for crying out loud).
So here’s how you can get your hands on these greetings by the dozen:
- PRIZE: One custom Emmy Lu design per month (of $50 or less) for an entire year (that’s up to a $600 value!)
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “EMMY ME” and…
- BONUS QUESTION: …tell us what you do to send seasonal greetings. Do you pose for a traditional family Christmas card? Or something quirkier (like photoshopping your chihuahua)? Maybe you abstain from the madness completely?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, December 9th at 8pm EST
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: Anywhere in the world!
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

EMMY ME!
I typically make custom cards the cheap-o way (Word – print & fold), that way I can customize each person’s message :) Then I send ’em off en masse!
Carin says
Well we are working on it. We usually don’t send out holiday cards, but this year with our newest little peanut, we will hopefully have something out by New Years!
Nicole says
EMMY ME ~ a photo collage is sent to everyone that got a wedding invitation from us and then some!
Carin says
Emmy Me!!
Add that to my post above!
Lisa says
EMMY ME! I’ve given up on sending out a mass of Christmas cards – I have narrowed down the list to people that I am close to that I know I won’t be able to see over the holidays…old university roommates, friends who have moved overseas etc…

Usually I just buy some stylish Christmas cards in the sale bins post-holidays and save them for the following year. (Since I’m single, it seems weird to send out a photo card of just me.) If I don’t win the Emmy Lu prize, my Boston Terrier Hamlet will definitely make an appearance on ye ol’ Christmas card.

We had a baby in July and now send out WAY more correspondence than any time in the past. We’d love to EMMY.

“EMMY ME” – I try to stay away from sending out more snail mail. After stamping about 500+ things for my recent wedding I figured I’d give the postmen a break for once.
Kaity White says
Emmy me!!! We usually don’t send out the seasonal greetings – love sending random notes to friends though. Old school mail can totally turn someone’s day around.

Emmy Me (said in Maeby Funke voice)!
We usually do fun, young Christmas cards (either DIYed or store bought). But last year we were on our much-delayed honeymoon in Mexico during Christmas. We collected Mexican postcards from everywhere we visited, drew Christmas stars on the palm trees, wrote detailed notes to all our recipients, and spent ungodly amounts of money on international postage. We were told they’d arrive perfectly on Christmas Eve — just a few days before we came home.
Yeah….those postcards ended up being delivered in April.

EMMY ME! I sent store-bought cards to friends and family. No picture, just a written message to each person.
Diana T. says
EMMY ME! We just send generic holiday cards, but we’ll be switching to post cards next year to be a little greener.

We pose for a cheesey holiday picture with our dog and cat – it’s a family picture! :)
Leigh says
EMMY ME! I typically try to make some kind of Christmas card, but I got lazy this year and took a picture of the kids in matching PJs and photoshopped a Christmas greeting on it. It got the job done!

Each year we send out traditional Christmas Cards, complete with family photo and a yearly update!

EMMY ME please!
Last year for our first Christmas as a married couple I sent out a Christmas letter with a few photos of us from the past couple of years. This year I’m sending a combo card & we’ve-moved announcement with our new address (all made using light card stock we already have), but don’t plan to compose another letter.
What about you guys? Do you send cute little DIY’d cards to your family and friends?
YoungHouseLove says
Hey Meredith,
We send photoshopped pics of Burger out of course! Here’s what we did last year and the year before: https://www.younghouselove.com/2008/12/kiss-me-you-fool/

We usually send simple cards to a close circle of family and friends – maybe 20 cards or so. No photos, usually, since they’re people we see often, but a simple note inside.
Katie says
Emmy Me! I usually send a collage of pictures and a very short “Happy Christmas” note (not one for long month to month outlines of what we did all year- who needs that!). Since we go married this year we will of course be using one of our wedding pics and another short “Happy Christmas” note.
Janet says
Emmy Me!!
I still send out several cards. I send a photo or photos of the year in review highlighted on one page. I like to get the newsletters or at least a note from those I hear from once a year and not just a signed card.

These are lovely! We’re expecting just a few months before you, so these would be perfect for the announcement. Plus, I just LOVE snail mail!

I don’t usually send out cards but this might give me a reason to.
Michelle says
“EMMY ME”- I am sending a picture card this year.

This is the first year I’ll be sending out Christmas cards. Since a lot of people weren’t able to make it to our wedding in July we used some of those photos for our cards… they turned out great! :-)

We go the traditional route and send greeting cards out to our friends and family. Since I work at the Met, I usually use my staff discount to buy art-y holiday cards every year. They have a nice selection and I get 40% off!

I always send out Christmas photo cards.. and I LOVE to receive them!!

For last year’s Christmas card we all sat on the couch – the hubs and I, our English Springer Spaniel and our rabbit. Epic fail. Not only did the dog actually try to eat the rabbit, there is not a single shot with all of looking at the camera, and by the end of the shoot the hubs and I are hardly smiling.
So this year? One image with the humans, and each fuzzy critter gets their own photo. No pets were harmed in the making of this year’s Christmas card.

Our family has stuck to the traditional photo card that we’ve lately had printed with Shutterfly or at Walgreens. It can be hard to get a whole family picture as we get older, so it’s nice to have the quick card turn around so we can mail the cards out in time!
Thalla-Marie says

No Christmas card for us since we don’t celebrate Christmas!
Katie Heitgerd says
EMMY ME! We’ve never really gotten around to sending out Christmas cards…we’re more of the party throwing type.

Last year was our first Christmas as a married couple so we used one of our wedding pictures for our Christmas card. Been trying to come up with something for this year! This would help a lot!!

Usually my sweet husband will pose for a traditional photo (and since we live in CO that has been with Aspen trees or snow covered pine trees) of us with our dog, Bagby. This year however we are waiting for our 2 boys to join us via adoption, so we are waiting to send cards with our NEW family photo when they are home with us!
See — I have great need for cards once a month next year!

I enjoy nothing more than a holiday card featuring my only child, an english springer spaniel. Santa’s hats, reindeer antlers, sweaters, the works! We’ll dress her up in anything and everything just to get that perfect holiday photo!

We don’t currently have a tradition for this, although I have been trying to talk the hubs into doing an Ugly Sweater card this year…

EMMY ME!
Since we got married last year, we’ve started a tradition of sending a Christmas photo of us in our house in front of something Christmas-y. We started this last year because we had just moved and didn’t have any time or money for Christmas so we posed in front of our new fireplace with those mini 99 cent felt stockings and the wrapped presents we got for others (but no tree, no ornaments, no lights, etc).
Emily says
EMMY ME!
We haven’t nailed down our seasons greeting yet…this year we just bought a house and life is still in boxes. Last year we got married three days before Christmas, and before that we were in school. But I’d love to start a tradition with this next year!
Kerry says
Emmy me! Usually I just do a card with a handwritten note, but this year I’m doing one that has a slot on the front where we can put a wedding photo, which I really like. I have them all assembled already and half of them are sent out, so I think I’m doing pretty well there!
Kate D says

Now that we’re married I’d like to make more of an effort to do holiday cards. I’m thinking this year will be a wedding photo card! :)

We send the traditional photo cards now, but when the kids were little and their stories were too good to pass up, my husband wrote the funny Xmas letter…only his version was the exact opposite of the ‘bragging’ ones… I know my kids will look back when they are older and run into a parked car- they are that embarrassing!!
good times!
AbbyW says
EMMY ME! This year our card is traditional but a couple of years ago, the whole fam (including cat) wore santa hats in the photo!
Audrey says
EMMY ME! This giveaway would save us an incredible amount of moolah on invitations for our upcoming wedding in April (not to mention thank-yous, and other celebratory parties during the year…)!

Ooh goodness! I would be so happy to win this. The cards are amazing!
