***This giveaway is now closed – see who won below!***
After clocking 10,000 entries under 24 hours, we’re already back to crown a random winner of the SINGER One sewing machine. The lucky person is… Angela (who says she’s a 1 on the sewing skills scale: “I can sew a straight line, but only if someone threads the machine for me first”). Congrats!
I’ve never touched a sewing machine in my life, but I’ve heard Sherry’s passionate muttering from the next room while using hers. Which is why anything labeled “Our easiest to use machine!” sounds compelling. And we’re so (sew?) excited that Singer is helping us give away a SINGER One – a feature-packed sewing machine that retails for nearly $500 – to one lucky reader! Something about an Automatic Needle Threader and OneTouch stitch selection sounds “approachable.” Plus the 24-available stitch patterns makes me believe you could fake your way into some pretty fancy stuff. Oh, and did we mention that Singer will ship this puppy anywhere in the world?
- PRIZE: A SINGER One sewing machine (a $499 value!)
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SEW ME!” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: …where do you rank yourself on the sewing skills continuum? Are you a 1 like me (I couldn’t sew my way out of a bag)? A self-proclaimed 3 like Sherry (who could probably make “a wonky bag”)? Or are you more like a 10 (who could not only sew a bag from scratch, but do so blindfolded)?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, Dec 12th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: This giveaway is available worldwide (we always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond the US – more on that here).
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

I have grand aspirations to be at least a 6 or 7. But currently I’m a 1. Or 0. I don’t think I qualify as a 1. :D
Cassidy says
Sew me!! I wouldn’t even know how to turn on the machine but would be very interested in learning!
Colette says
SEW ME!!
I’d say about a four. However I don’t have access to a sewing machine at the moment so my hot glue gun and I are best of friends!
Lori says
SEW ME!!
Hello, you cute couple! My daughters and I love to read your blog. I ordered books for them, also. The book turned out even better than we imagined it would.
I can sew a straight line, and feel good about that! But my oldest daughter an I want t learn to quilt, so this machine would be good timing!
MamaG says
SEW ME! Probably a 1. The last time I used a machine was in middle school Home Ec. class. Yikes. But I see all kinds of cool projects to use a sewing machine and I think how much I’d like one.
Brit Cham says
SEW ME! I’m a 0.
megan says
sew me! I still use hem tape for everything, so I’m a 1.
Jan B. says
SEW ME!
Maybe a 2.5, although I just made lavender-stuffed sachets with some of my hand-woven cloth. The first had pretty wavy seams, but the next turned out OK.
Lori says
SEW ME!
I’m maybe a 4. I can do basic sewing skills, but beyond that I have to call my mom for help.
Russell says

Ii’m definitely a 1 but my wife enjoys it! She’d rate herself a 3 :)

Amy S. says
Sew me. I’m probably a 5.
Emily says
SEW ME!
I’m a 0. Potentially even crossing into negative territory. But my sister and I resolved to learn together in the New Year, and this would be a great tool to do so, especially because it will help us recruit our already sewing-savvy friends to do the teaching!

SEW ME!!! I’m not a seamstress, or even a beginner, but I’d love to become one!
Tammy Roe says
SEW ME!! I am prob a 2 or 3, used to be a five or six, so I might be able to pick it back up. ;)

Amanda says
Sew Me!
I would have to say I am about a 7 or an 8.
Jamie Lee says
SEW ME! I give myself a 2. I made a cooling head thing one time, but I never could work out the tension on my mom’s sewing machine. I’d often end up with a hug bird’s nest or thread. I’ve been thinking about buying myself a machine for the past two years, but I’m a little overwhelmed with which one to choose.
Liz VanKirk says
Sew Me! I would consider myself about a 5. Don’t give me any button holes or zippers please. Just sewing straight is fine by me! I would absolutely love a new sewing machine. Mine is 23 years old. I would then pass mine down to my daughter.
Bonnie says
SEW ME!!
I’d give myself a 5.. only a 3 for skill but 2 bonus points for enthusiasm!!
Vanessa says
SEW ME!
I am a two: I could maybe sew a wonky bag, but I am likely to inadvertently sew myself inside of it.
Sarah in Indiana says
Sew me! I’d say I’m probably about a 4. I could definitely make a bag (one year I made a ton of them out of juice pouches) I can do buttonholes and sew a straight line. I’ve even done a zipper. But I’ve not tried to make anything with a pattern yet, so I have a lot to learn.
Sarah says
SEW ME!!! Definitely a 2.5 to 3. I can hem pants and curtains, and sew pillow covers but that’s about it!
brittany long says
SEW ME!
I rank as a big ol’ one on the sewing scale! I can handstich buttons, etc. fairly well, but I have NEVER used a sewing machine in my life! I need to learn, though, since we have a baby on the way.
Speaking of which, John & Sherry, you were in my weird pregnancy dream last night. I dreamt that you “house crashed” my house, but then I realized after you left that I had forgotten to show you the kitchen. I had them page/intercom you at the mall (??) to come back to take pictures of the kitchen, but apparently I was at the wrong mall. Dreams are so bizarre! Esp when pregnant, I am finding!!!
Clementine says
SEW ME!
Megan says
SEW ME!! i would say i am a 5 i can usually figure out how to make stuff.. i’m pretty good at curtains!
Kristin says
SEW ME! I think I’m a 3. I made my sister some fairly complicated window treatments last year, but they didn’t come out perfect. (Luckily, “not bad” is OK with her.)
bethanyf says
SEW ME! I’m probably a 4 or 5. I can sew a quilt or put in a zipper or buttons, but I can’t do anything fancy!
Chelsea says
Sew me! I am currently a 0 but would love to learn
Juanita says
SEW ME!
I classify as a 1 (or below). Although I am hoping to change that! :)
Gen K. says
SEW ME! I’m probably a 1.5. I can do some hand-stitching, or cross-stitching, but am scared of normal sewing machines – which is why this one sounds great! I love all of the features and might actually be able to make stuff using it!
Rachel says
SEW Me!!! I’m probably a 1.8…. haha get this when I was young I saw a sign that said ‘sewing club’ and it shocked me…. I can’t believe there’s clubs for sueing people now… I wasn’t that good of a speller ;)
Gayle Hughes says
Sew Me!! I would rate myself as an 8.5. I love to sew costumes for my little girls and draperies for my house, but I still do a lot of muttering under my breath when things don’t go perfectly.
Megan says
SEW ME!! i consider myself a 7!
Nicole says
SEW ME!
I’d say I’m a 2. :)
Erin says
SEW ME!
I’d give myself a 4, made some curtains for our sunroom a few years ago. Simple task for some, but it took me several days to complete.
Crunchy Cake says
SEW ME! I’d say I’m like a 2…unless of course I have to thread the damn thing, in which case I’m a -4.
Megan says
SEW ME!
Ashley says
“SEW ME!”
Y’all…a sewing machine is the #1 item on my Christmas list! I’ve taken an intro class, so I think I’m currently about a 2. But I have high hopes of becoming a 5+ in 2013!!
