***This giveaway is now closed – see who won below!***
After clocking 10,000 entries under 24 hours, we’re already back to crown a random winner of the SINGER One sewing machine. The lucky person is… Angela (who says she’s a 1 on the sewing skills scale: “I can sew a straight line, but only if someone threads the machine for me first”). Congrats!
I’ve never touched a sewing machine in my life, but I’ve heard Sherry’s passionate muttering from the next room while using hers. Which is why anything labeled “Our easiest to use machine!” sounds compelling. And we’re so (sew?) excited that Singer is helping us give away a SINGER One – a feature-packed sewing machine that retails for nearly $500 – to one lucky reader! Something about an Automatic Needle Threader and OneTouch stitch selection sounds “approachable.” Plus the 24-available stitch patterns makes me believe you could fake your way into some pretty fancy stuff. Oh, and did we mention that Singer will ship this puppy anywhere in the world?
- PRIZE: A SINGER One sewing machine (a $499 value!)
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SEW ME!” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: …where do you rank yourself on the sewing skills continuum? Are you a 1 like me (I couldn’t sew my way out of a bag)? A self-proclaimed 3 like Sherry (who could probably make “a wonky bag”)? Or are you more like a 10 (who could not only sew a bag from scratch, but do so blindfolded)?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, Dec 12th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: This giveaway is available worldwide (we always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond the US – more on that here).
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Sew me, this could take me from a 3 to a 10!

SEW ME!!! I’d say a 6 or so. I do okay, but am always learning more! It helps that I love it!
Allison says
Oh, probably a 6 or 7. I can make dresses for my daughter but I’m not ready for drapes!

Sew Me!!!
So… I would say from the looks of things I make you might think I’m about a 4. But the reality is I’m about a 2. For Example… I made one of my sundresses into a high waisted floor length skirt, and it turned out really cute! …but if you look closely the seems are all off center and if you look at the inside there are like a million knots and tangled threads where I messed up and then just kept sewing :-/
Darcy says
SEW ME! I’m not sure where I lay on the sewing spectrum. I can sew most things by hand (mend clothes, turn anything into a pillow and I even made a queen size quilt by hand once) but I’ve never touched a sewing machine before due to not owning one and being too intimidated to buy one.
Alissa says
Sew me!
I’m probably a 6 or 7. I can make a bag (I’m actually just finishing 4 of them for nieces’ and nephews’ Christmas presents) and have sewn dresses for my nieces and me, but I need to work on the art of craftsmanship.
Great giveaway; thank you!
kara says
SEW ME! I’m probably a 6 handstiching and a 2 on a machine. I haven’t really sewn on a machine since I was little, but my mom is a 10+ and my grandma was too, so I feel like it’s in my blood…or the potential of being a natural is at least there ;)
Steph says
Sew me! Can I be a 0?
Lindsey says
SEW ME!!!
I’m going to be generous and give myself a 2. I’m pretty terrible, but I can at least sew on a button or fix my dog’s toys when she rips them. :)

SEW ME! I learned how to sew in Home-Ec in 7th Grade with Mrs. McDonough. She also showed me how to make surprise muffins (they have jelly inside) and a mean streusel topping for coffee cake. Anyway, my abilities haven’t progressed much since the boxer shorts and duffel that I made way back when but most of my projects involve straight lines so it is all good. :)

SEW mE!
Not so great!
debi says
“SEW ME!” Around a 7. I’m good at it but lose interest quickly and want to move on to the next project, which means my seams are never straight!
Soha Azargan says
SEW ME!
Complete 1. No sewing ever.
Angela says
Sew Me!
novice, 1 maybe 2
Megan says
SEW ME!
Sherry and I are sewing-score twins. Definitely a 3, but wishing I were a 10. Maybe I’ve been using the wrong machine?
Ashley J. says
SEW ME! Would definitely rate my skills at a 1, or maybe a 0. Eek!
Ann Marie says
SEW ME!!!
I’m probably around a 3, like $herdog. I’ve surprised myself before in making easy things like scarves, and hemming drapes, but that’s about as far as I’ve gotten!
Buffi says
Sew ME! I don’t even make the scale, but I have someone who would teach me if I had a machine!
Suzanne says
SEW ME!
1 – Certainly a beginner, but oh how I would love to make my own curtains, mend my own clothes, finally put together that Christmas tree skirt…
Kayla says
SEW ME! I’d like to think I’m a 3, but 2 might be more accurate. It’s the effort, right?
Audrey says
SEW ME! I’m a total 1. I’m going to blame me current sewing machine on my lack of skills ;)
Meaghan Sutherland says
Sew me!
I am probably a 7, but my machine is more like a 2…
Tara says
SEW ME! I’m probably a 2. My mother tried to teach me growing up, but I didn’t show much interest then. Now that I have three young children of my own I would love to give it a try again!
Colleen says
SEW ME! …always middle of the road for me….5

sew me! A TEN, a TEN……uh, in my dreams! I’m right there past the curve of lethal and slowly, painfully, learning my way to something recognizable!
Shannon says
Sew Me!
I am a 1 for sure. Have always wanted to learn to sew.
Jillian says
I think I am pretty handy with a sewing machine. I think I’d give myself an 8. However, I have an advantage here, I have a degree in fashion design. SEW ME! I sure could use a new machine!
Luba says
Sew Me!
I have a 20 year old machine that’s on its last leg! I could sew use this!
JenK says
SEW ME! I am a 1. I am able to tangle a bobbin successfully but still dream of more.
Andrea says
SEW ME!
Definitely a 1, but anxious to learn more. I’m always insanely jealous when I see what people have created with their sewing machines!
stephanie says
SEW ME!
I’m a self-professed 0, but am eager and willing to learn!
Charlotte says
SEW ME! I’m probably a 2 or 3. A new machine might help push me up to a 4!

Katie M says
SEW ME!
I would consider myself a 1, but once upon a time I was a solid 5. I don’t know what happened!
Tanja says
SEW ME! I’m probably a 2. My mom is a 10 and I’ve relied on her for way too many year! ;-)
Nora says
Sign me up and SEW ME please!
Hmm, not sure where I rank, maybe a 2, 3 if I’m lucky. I’ve sewn curtains and bed sheets in the past, straight lines and I get along really well :)
I’ve always wanted to try making initials on pillows and this would be the perfect sewing machine to try it with.
Emma says
SEW ME!
I’d say i’m a 4… have attempted some more complicated things(curtains/clothing) but rely heavily on my Mom for advice :)
Mandi says
SEW ME!
I wish I was a 10 but sadly I’m like a 1. If I had a decent sewing machine from this decade I would use it all the time. I have my moms ancient one that has a broken leg on the stand and is being held up by old paint cans. lol.
sandhya says
SEW ME!
I’m a 1,but i have burning desire to learn sewing and to sew some pretty dresses for my 5 months little one and also with this machine i can inspire her to be a perfect SINGER(sewer with rank 10).
AnaMaria says
SEW ME!
I am probly a 2 …I can sew on buttons and I used to hand sew all the ribbons for my pointe shoes when I was a ballet dancer in my younger years. lol..(like 7 years ago,it seems like a lifetime ago since I miss it “sew” much! LOL) I would LOVE to learn how to sew for real though, since my hubby and I just bought our first house and I would love to tackle some new projects.
Elizabeth says
SEW ME
I’m probably a 3 – I’ve made pjs, aprons and curtains but nothing more complicated!

SEW ME! I’m about a 6 and would love to get my hands on a new sew machine.

Susan Vahlkamp says
SEW ME!
I’m a 1…but how can I improve without a sewing machine???
Tiffany S. says
Sew Me! Definitely a 1… I can’t even thread a sewing machine right now. But honestly I am taking classes and working with family (Lord help me lol) to learn. :)
FHoff says
SEW ME!
Yeah, maybe a 2.5. I take out the beast, fight with it for hours, make do with a crappy tensioned project, then put it away for another few months until I work up the courage to do battle again. I love the idea of an easy machine with fancy stitches. I would then happily donate my beast to someone in need.
Sherry L says
Sew Me!!!
I’m about a solid 3!
