Fab Freebie: Sew Simple

***This giveaway is now closed – see who won below!***

After clocking 10,000 entries under 24 hours, we’re already back to crown a random winner of the SINGER One sewing machine. The lucky person is… Angela (who says she’s a 1 on the sewing skills scale: “I can sew a straight line, but only if someone threads the machine for me first”). Congrats!

I’ve never touched a sewing machine in my life, but I’ve heard Sherry’s passionate muttering from the next room while using hers. Which is why anything labeled “Our easiest to use machine!” sounds compelling. And we’re so (sew?) excited that Singer is helping us give away a SINGER One – a feature-packed sewing machine that retails for nearly $500 – to one lucky reader! Something about an Automatic Needle Threader and OneTouch stitch selection sounds “approachable.” Plus the 24-available stitch patterns makes me believe you could fake your way into some pretty fancy stuff. Oh, and did we mention that Singer will ship this puppy anywhere in the world?

Singer One Giveaway

  • PRIZE: A SINGER One sewing machine (a $499 value!)
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SEW ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …where do you rank yourself on the sewing skills continuum? Are you a 1 like me (I couldn’t sew my way out of a bag)? A self-proclaimed 3 like Sherry (who could probably make “a wonky bag”)? Or are you more like a 10 (who could not only sew a bag from scratch, but do so blindfolded)?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, Dec 12th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: This giveaway is available worldwide (we always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond the US – more on that here).
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
  • ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of SINGER.

SEW ME ! I’m probably a 3-4 but Sherry is definitely a 5-6, considering what she sewed for Clara’s closet (the big pouf).

    SEW ME!!

I live in Dubai where there are tailor’s galore and the extent of my sewing skills has been using those little kits you find in hotels to replace a button. I’ve never entered one of your giveaways before – but since this is open to anyone I thought I would join in on the fun!

SEW ME! I’m probably a 5 or 6, having been sewing for about 35 years (yes, I was in utero when I started!). And I’ve been teaching my daughter, a second year at my (and John’s!) alma mater, Mr. Jefferson’s University, to sew. She’s the only one among her friends that can do so, I believe. It’s a lost art, for sure, and I’d love for her to have her own machine.

I think I’m about a 2 or 3 as I struggle to sew a straight line even using gingham material! I imagine my sewing skills would be better if I had a machine that wasn’t a left over from the dark ages and didn’t stall every 20 stitches or so.

SEW ME! I am a terrible machine seamstress- but then I’ve only ever worked on sewing machines that were built for nuns and popes and mothers- but not for impatient lovelies such as myself. I would LOVE an easy to use machine so I can ditch the thimble and sew in a straight line without rueing the day I was born.

    Sew me!

I’m maybe a 6. My mum taught me to sew when I was a wee thing of 6 or 7 years of age. Solid basics and can read a pattern and have made the odd item of clothing but I’m no seamstress, it’s mostly straight lines, home furnishings or small craft / toy projects here. We’re expecting our first baby in March so it’s currently burp cloth and wipe city here!

    Sew me!

I’ve been sewing for most of my life, first for myself, then in a few different costume shops during and after college. My current machine is pretty elderly (it’s an awesome all-metal Brother from the late 50s or early 60s inherited from my grandma), but I’m not ready to take it in for an overhaul yet because I don’t have a backup while it’s in the shop. Current project: cordoroy messenger bag for my sis for Christmas.

I’m a 1, but I’ve always wanted to learn. My Mom sews and both my Grandmothers did beautiful work. In fact, my mother made me my own “Scarlet” dress when I was 7, by turning some old lace curtains into my 1st communion dress! It’s a shame she never trained me when I was younger, but I figure it’s never too late to learn.

I have an upcoming sewing project coming up! Okay, it’s really just a button onto a coat but it still needs to get done.

I’d say I’m about a 2-3 on the sew scale. I can thread a needle and make fabric stay together but it’s not the prettiest thing and I’ve always wished I could do better. This machine might actually make that a possibility!

Sew me! I’m probably a 3 as well. My mom put me in sewing classes when I was 13 (totally uncool at the time) and I made a few shirts. But my pride and joy is the quilt my mom, sisters and I made with the help of a family friend who is an excellent quilt maker. I used to have a sewing machine, but mom gave it to my little sister when I stopped using it. Would love to get back into it with this!!
