***This giveaway is now closed – see who won below!***
After clocking 10,000 entries under 24 hours, we’re already back to crown a random winner of the SINGER One sewing machine. The lucky person is… Angela (who says she’s a 1 on the sewing skills scale: “I can sew a straight line, but only if someone threads the machine for me first”). Congrats!
I’ve never touched a sewing machine in my life, but I’ve heard Sherry’s passionate muttering from the next room while using hers. Which is why anything labeled “Our easiest to use machine!” sounds compelling. And we’re so (sew?) excited that Singer is helping us give away a SINGER One – a feature-packed sewing machine that retails for nearly $500 – to one lucky reader! Something about an Automatic Needle Threader and OneTouch stitch selection sounds “approachable.” Plus the 24-available stitch patterns makes me believe you could fake your way into some pretty fancy stuff. Oh, and did we mention that Singer will ship this puppy anywhere in the world?
- PRIZE: A SINGER One sewing machine (a $499 value!)
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SEW ME!” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: …where do you rank yourself on the sewing skills continuum? Are you a 1 like me (I couldn’t sew my way out of a bag)? A self-proclaimed 3 like Sherry (who could probably make “a wonky bag”)? Or are you more like a 10 (who could not only sew a bag from scratch, but do so blindfolded)?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, Dec 12th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: This giveaway is available worldwide (we always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond the US – more on that here).
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

SEW ME! My skills probably rate 1 or less on a scale of 10, although I once had a job as a dresser, which required a sewing skills test. Somehow I passed and got the job! I still don’t know how! My daughter is interested in learning to make clothes, and I would love to learn along with her!

Elizabeth Brezinski says
SEW ME! I am tied with Sherry….in high school I took a sewing class and made a coat and bag. The coat came out surprisingly good but I feel like 10+ years from the sewing machine will make you looks anything you knew.
Heidi says
SEW ME!!
I would give myself a 2! I have been doing pillow covers for our sofa! Thankfully I can call on my man to fix threading issues when I have no idea what is wrong!
Julie in TX says
SEW ME! I’m about a 5 with the sewing skills. I can make quilted things (stockings, tree skirt, blankets), but if it isn’t a straight line, it probably isn’t happening.
Karol says
***SEW ME***
I would rank myself around 4 or 5 this past year I have taken up quilting and I think I have come a long way.
Caitlin says
SEW ME! I am a 3-4 at best. I can sew hems and straight lines!
Chi says
SEW ME!
I’m probably about a 7-8. Unfortunately, my machine broke about two years ago, and I’ve been working with ‘donated’ machines – usually the $70 basic ones, that are consistently breaking. SO right now I feel like a 2!
Kimberly says
Sew Me!
I’d say a 4 going on 5. I’ve been finding free patterns online and I’m actually making some Christmas presents this year for a few of my sisters. We’ll see if everything turns out!
Pamela says
SEW ME! I am definitely a 1 with a machine – haven’t touched one since I got a “D” in middle school home ec for my pillow sewing project. But I am so ready to start sewing again. My grandmother and great grandmother were excellent seamstresses, and I would love to be able to at least make some simple things.
Missy says
SEW ME!
I’m a solid 1….but I’m hoping that my teenage daughter will do better! (I could really use her help around here in that area.) I would love to improve my skills…btw, love me some YHL!
Suzanne says
Sew Me!
I fall between a 3 & 4. Curtains, pillows, skirts, etc- but all without patterns:( Can’t read them, and they kind of freak me out.
Christina says
SEW ME!!
I think I’m a solid 5.
Sarah B says
SEW ME!
I’m probably right around a 3.5. I can do some basic sewing, but it doesn’t always come out that pretty…
Jessica says
Sew Me!!! I am definitely a 0 I have no sewing skills but want to learn sooo bad!! Right now I am the master of the no sew tape :)
Jenna says
SEW ME!
I could probably make a pillow … so a 2 on the sewing scale.
Donna Hollingsworth says
THat machine is “sew me”! I can sew simple things but am learning to do heirloom sewing right now. I have learned that a good machine makes a big difference and they all sew differently! Thanks for a great prize give-away opportunity! Merry Christmas!
Allison says
Sew me!
Stephanie says
SEW ME!
Ehhh a 5?
Jacquelyn says
SEW ME!” and tell us…
I can sew, but I haven’t used a machine in a looooong time. I’d love to start!
Amanda says
SEW ME!
I might be a 2, because my hand sewing skills are better than anything with a machine. That’s why I want to learn!
Liz A. says
SEW ME!!! I would say I am a three, I can thread the darn machine, that has to give me some points, right? But after that, pretty much I am stuck to straight lines, nothing fancy…button holes are things to be avoided.
Katie S says
Sew me!
I have to be honest and say that I’m a 1. But I would love to change that!
Cassie says
Well if Sherry says she can sew a wonky bag and is a 3, I guess I’m a 4. I can make lazy quilts, blankies, jammie pants, and spent 14 hours sewing a giant rag bag/diaper bag :)
Nikki G says
SEW ME!!
I would have said I’m a 3… But since that’s what Sherry has said and I haven’t used a machine yet (I have only hand-sewn things), I have to demote myself to a 2.
Maia Bradshaw says
SEW ME!!! I’d have to say I’m a hard 1. My grandma was an intense 10, and I want to make her proud!
Margaret Marchi says
“SEW ME!” I’ve sewn since I was a child–skill rating of 9. These days I mostly sew clothes.
susie lavender says
SEW ME!!!
I come from a long line of seamstresses but I’m only worthy of a 2.
Angela says
SEW ME!!! I’m probably a 3-4! But trying to teach my daughter to sew to pass on the skills. My first machine was my mom’s black basic singer. Nothing but a straight stitch!
Erin says
SEW ME!
I’m definitely a 0 or 1, but I have always wanted to learn!
Michelle says
SEW ME!!!
I am a 2 trapped with a crappy machine!! At least I blame all the mistakes on the machine. Cheers
Kristen says
Sew me! I am definitely a 1 on the sewing scale so would require special “easy” equipment but would love to learn!
Jennifer says
SEW ME!
I have always wanted to try sewing and having this machine would give me the incentive to learn.
Elese says
SEW ME! I’m probably a 2
Jaime says
SEW ME!!
I’d probably put myself around a 7. I love to sew, sew a fair bit, but make the majority of it up as I go. That being said, my sewing machine is an old hand me down and I could definitely use a new one!!
Katie M. says
SEW ME! I’m probably around a 3 or so, I really wish I had the patience to sit down and learn properly.
Krista says
SEW ME!!! I’d say I’m a 5. My husband got me a basic model sewing machine for Christmas two years ago. I’ve made pillow covers, burp rags, and all of the bedding for my sons crib. LOVE IT!!! :-)
Tess Doorak says
SEW ME!
I am a 3 for sewing I am not good but can hem pants.
Laura says
Sew me! Yup, I’d say I’m around a three. I can sew a straight line, and have made a bunch of curtains and little church purses for my girls. Trying to get braver! Thank goodness for YouTube tutorials!
Jen says
SEW ME! Regretably, on a sewing machine a big 0. I’d say a 1 for mending by hand.
Rosemary says
SEW ME! My daughter and her new husband just bought a spanking new condo and would find plenty of use for a sewing machine.
I don’t sew at all.
Terri says
“SEW ME” I would say I’m a 5. I can mend, make pillows & some crafty Halloween costumes. I bought my current Singer when my daughter was 6 months old (she’s 27) with grand plans to make lots of frilly dresses. Maybe for a granddaughter some day.
Chanelle says
SEW ME! A 2. I have an old sewing machine from the 70s and it makes projects difficult because the machine isn’t working right anymore. I think I could be more proficient if I had a better functioning machine! Can’t wait to make some projects for my 4 month old.
Katy says
SEW ME! Please please pleeeeeeeeeeeease. I’m a solid 5.
G Novo says
I’m a -10.. Last year I was hoping to get a sewing machine and start to learn the basics but 6 hours of research on what sewing machine to buy caused chaos, confusion & the abandonment of my sewing dreams. My mom has been helping me hand stitch cafe curtains for the new house since her machine broke years ago.
I’m sew not crafty ;)
Stephanie says
Sew me! I am definitely a 1. I have wanted to sew for a few years but never caved and bought a machine.
LauraLynn says
SEW Me!
I would say that I’m a 6 somewhere in the middle .. but a little bit more. I sewed my daughter a dress last year :).
Jeanna says
SEW ME!
I would be about a 1.5… not quite to a 2, but have some home ec experience under my belt. ;)
Kristen says
SEW ME! I used to be a 6 or a 7, but I haven’t sewn in a long time so I’ve probably slipped to a 3 or a 4. This would get me back on the saddle!
Danielle says
“SEW ME!” and I’m a 7 in what I can produce but the inside work is like a 3 at best. I’m self-taught so I figure as long as it looks good on the outside, then we are good to go! And since today’s my birthday, I’m feeling lucky with this drawing….;-)
elizabeth says
SEW ME! I would say I’m about a 5-6. There’s LOTS of room for improvement :)
