Fab Freebie: Sew Simple

***This giveaway is now closed – see who won below!***

After clocking 10,000 entries under 24 hours, we’re already back to crown a random winner of the SINGER One sewing machine. The lucky person is… Angela (who says she’s a 1 on the sewing skills scale: “I can sew a straight line, but only if someone threads the machine for me first”). Congrats!

I’ve never touched a sewing machine in my life, but I’ve heard Sherry’s passionate muttering from the next room while using hers. Which is why anything labeled “Our easiest to use machine!” sounds compelling. And we’re so (sew?) excited that Singer is helping us give away a SINGER One – a feature-packed sewing machine that retails for nearly $500 – to one lucky reader! Something about an Automatic Needle Threader and OneTouch stitch selection sounds “approachable.” Plus the 24-available stitch patterns makes me believe you could fake your way into some pretty fancy stuff. Oh, and did we mention that Singer will ship this puppy anywhere in the world?

Singer One Giveaway

  • PRIZE: A SINGER One sewing machine (a $499 value!)
  • TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SEW ME!” and tell us…
  • BONUS QUESTION: …where do you rank yourself on the sewing skills continuum? Are you a 1 like me (I couldn’t sew my way out of a bag)? A self-proclaimed 3 like Sherry (who could probably make “a wonky bag”)? Or are you more like a 10 (who could not only sew a bag from scratch, but do so blindfolded)?
  • GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, Dec 12th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
  • NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
  • PRIZE SHIPS: This giveaway is available worldwide (we always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond the US – more on that here).
  • USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
  • ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of SINGER.

SEW ME! I’m a big fat 0 on the scale of knowing how to sew, but all year, I’ve been researching how to sew classes and I want to learn so I can have fun with my little girl as she gets older. This would be the best push to make my goal happen.

Err, perhaps a 1-2. I am hopeless with a sewing machine, but to be fair, it’s been a while since I’ve been able to try. I felt so (sew?) lucky to have a mom who not only made my homecoming and prom dresses, but ended up making my wedding dress, too — now that I have my own child, I realize how valuable this is! Please help me get my sewing skills up to par! :)

    Hi!
For once, i can play!!! Hourra! (I totally understand when I can’t).
So to be honest, I’m a 0.5/1. So bad at sewing. But my mum is a 7 or 8. Having a sewing machine would help me learn from my mum.
So thank you both of you, for the contest and for your blog. Love it!!!

I’m pretty much at a level 4, I’ve made a fair amount of beanbags and could figure out something slightly more complicated than straight lines.

My sewing skills are pathetic (a solid 1) and it is embarrassing because my mother is a seamstress and I watched her make wedding gowns growing up. Nonetheless, there are several amazing projects I want to challenge myself with (pouffes, curtains, kids costumes, animal shaped pillows).

    “SEW ME”

I’m in the intermediate range. I learned to sew many years ago and got busy raising boys and having a career so put it away. Three years ago I picked up needle and thread and have been dusting off the rust. I never realized how much fun sewing was and now I can’t go a day without stitching something.

    Sew me!

I’ve been sewing since I was 9 – when I could join 4-H. I wouldn’t say I could do a wedding dress blindfolded, but I can read a pattern and create some cute skirts, dresses, bags, aprons, etc. So(ew), I’m a solid 8.

Sew Me! I’m probably a 5-6 but my mother is a 10. For example, we found my wedding dress second-hand but it was a size 12 and I was a 2 at the time. No problem for her to basically remake the gown (and at $20, you couldn’t even buy fabric to make from scratch!)

    SEW ME!

I am a hand work kinda girl. I will use the machine and really love to sew larger things – I’ve done drapes and pillows a ton!! But hand me one of those soft flowy delicate tissue patterns in the envelope and I’m suddenly all glue and scissors fingers. So I guess I’m somewhere in the middle on the skill thing.

My beautiful (now 92yr old) gramma taught me how to sew when I was about 6 years old (42 years ago…wow!). An extremely accomplished professional tayloress (as they were often called) – she is still today doing small jobs for family and friends, like hemming trousers and taking in skirts – when she’s not chatting with her grandkids on her iPad. :-)

I have her really gorgeous old Singer machine in its original mahogany cabinet (not a treadle, it’s electric). In our family, that Singer is truly an heirloom in so many ways.
