***This giveaway is now closed – see who won below!***
After clocking 10,000 entries under 24 hours, we’re already back to crown a random winner of the SINGER One sewing machine. The lucky person is… Angela (who says she’s a 1 on the sewing skills scale: “I can sew a straight line, but only if someone threads the machine for me first”). Congrats!
I’ve never touched a sewing machine in my life, but I’ve heard Sherry’s passionate muttering from the next room while using hers. Which is why anything labeled “Our easiest to use machine!” sounds compelling. And we’re so (sew?) excited that Singer is helping us give away a SINGER One – a feature-packed sewing machine that retails for nearly $500 – to one lucky reader! Something about an Automatic Needle Threader and OneTouch stitch selection sounds “approachable.” Plus the 24-available stitch patterns makes me believe you could fake your way into some pretty fancy stuff. Oh, and did we mention that Singer will ship this puppy anywhere in the world?
- PRIZE: A SINGER One sewing machine (a $499 value!)
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SEW ME!” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: …where do you rank yourself on the sewing skills continuum? Are you a 1 like me (I couldn’t sew my way out of a bag)? A self-proclaimed 3 like Sherry (who could probably make “a wonky bag”)? Or are you more like a 10 (who could not only sew a bag from scratch, but do so blindfolded)?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, Dec 12th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: This giveaway is available worldwide (we always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond the US – more on that here).
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

SEW ME!
I am less than a 0 on the sewing scale, but I hope to one day be a 2 or 3!
Grace says
SEW ME!
I think I’m probably around a 5. I’m pretty comfortable on a machine but still know I have soooooooo much more to learn!
Caitlin says
SEW ME!
I am a solid 2. I made table runners a few Thanksgivings ago, but those are rectangle. And fabric comes… in a rectangle. Not so hard.
stephanie says
SEW ME! Probably a 3…I can sew a little, but my finished pieces might not have equal sides, corners, or hems!
Jennifer says
SEW ME! I made felt mittens once. You couldn’t comfortably fit all your fingers in them, but they held together and that’s all that really matters. haha.
Marissa says
SEW ME!
I’m a 5 maybe? I can quilt but can’t do much else.
Kelsey @ Hullabaloo says
SEW ME! I am probably a 2 or 3. BUT I can knit and cross stitch, so I’m hoping that makes me look more legit.
katalina says
SEW ME!
I am a (one) who once had stapled gun hemmed jeans.
does it skip a generation?
My mother made costumes for plays in college and gorgeous prom dresses for me in high school.
not sure why I love PR so much after all these years. maybe the solving a creative problem in so many different ways.
Laura says
SEW ME!
I’m probably an 8 on the sew skill scale. The very first thing I made at about age 6, was a pair of flannel pajamas with balloons on them. I had completely finished them before I realized that on the bottoms, the balloons were floating up, and on the top… they were floating down.
I’m no project runway finalist, but I know my way around a pattern!
Catherine Gomez says
Sew Me! I am a .5/10 but would love a machine to learn!
Cassie B says
SEW ME!!
I am a total beginner, but I am a pretty good crafter, so I think I could become a 5 or 6…
Meagan says
SEW ME! (please!)
This is so timely. I was just contemplating investing in a sewing machine! I am a total 1 one would hope to one day be a 3 (a la Sherry) if I’m lucky enough to win – or get a sewing machine from Santa!
Katherine says
SEW ME!
Maybe a 3? Urgent repairs and hems are just about manageable, otherwise, I send it home to my mother.
Abbe L says
SEW ME!
I had a phase in the 6th grade, using my mom’s maching to sew REALLY basic and REALLY awful skirts and purses, and haven’t touched it since. I’d love a new machine to hem my pants since my short leggies require all my pants to take a $$ trip to the tailor!
Rebecca W. says
SEW ME! I was gonna say 4 but then I saw Sherry puts herself at a 3 and I’m not at that level so let’s go with a 2. A sewing machine was on my Christmas List but I never actually told anyone about it, fingers crossed on this one.
Andrea says
SEW ME!!!! I would say I am a 7 with sewing. I would love to have a nice machine like this one!
Brandy says
SEW ME!
I’m say 7. I’ve sewn a full formal graduation gown on a couple of occasions.
Pam says
SEW ME! I’d say I’m a 4 when it comes to sewing. I’ve had my share of frustrations over a few not so successful projects.
Sara D says
SEW ME!
I am probably a 1. But I would love to learn!
Jenn says
Sew me!
I’m right around a two — I can sew a straight line but when the machine runs out of thread I tend to put it away for a year or two rather than try to fix it.
Stephanie Hansen says
Sew me. I’m at a 1, but I’d like to be at a 10 someday!
Renee says
SEW ME!
I am a 0 for sure!
Kadee says
SEW ME!
I’m with Sherry, maybe a 4.5 on a good day. :)
Sarah says
SEW ME!
I’m definitely a 1 or 2, but want to get better. I keep seeing tons of things I’d love to make (or attempt to make), but don’t have a sewing machine!
Jenny says
SEW ME! I am definitely a 1 but my husband is probably a 3. With the help of our mothers – who are both a 5, at least – we might actually be able to make use of this thing!
Andrea Poarch says
SEW ME!!! I am definitely a 2 on a scale of 1 to 10, but would love to improve in order to make some curtains and slipcovers I’ve been dying to make.
Emily Jean says
SEW ME!
I would say I’m probably a 0.5, but have always wanted to sew my own table runners, drapes and pillows! The last project I tackled was in 8th grade, and it was a pair of odd fitting boxer shorts haha. With a little one on the way, I am envisioning lots of DIY projects for the nursery!
Ellen says
Sew me!
I sewed an outfit in middle school. I’d like to try my hand at something a little more stylish.
Sarah H. says
SEW ME!!
I’d say I’m at about a 5 on the scale… I’ve quilted, altered clothing before, made tote bags, etc., but I sure don’t like to do all the math and precise lining-up and pinning that is required of a 10 ;)
Holly says
Sew Me!
I would also put myself at around a 3. I have done a little quilting, but not clothes.
Johanna says
SEW ME!
Maybe a 4? I can make a mean simple pillow or shade!
Carmena says
SEW ME!
I am a 6, I think! hehehe… I learned how to sew in school when I was in the Philippines. Growing up, my mother will sew for us our school uniforms to save us money. When I was in 5th grade, I hand stitched a backpack made out of scrap denim jeans! And it was a very proud moment for me! I would love to have this SINGER one!
Gillian at No Bite Left Behind says
SEW ME!
I’m probably a 7 or 8, I could sew a bag from scratch, but I definitely need the use of my eyes!
Evia says
SEW ME!!
I’d say a 6 – made my first bed quilt this year and lots of little rag blankets (flannel). But then again, last year I sewed my finger making Halloween costumes and the needle broke off in it. Maybe that is a minus 2 or 3 making me really a 3 or 4!!
Shay says
A 3. I sewed a blanket once… For a doll ;-)
Ashleigh says
Sew Me! I’d probably rank close to Sherry’s 3, but that could be because I have a circa 1960 Singer that is usually in a bad mood. Who knows how my skills could improve with a new Singer!
Laura says
SEW ME!
I would say I’m an 8 – I sew all the time, but can’t afford a “nice” machine. Mine came from a yard sale.
Kate says
SEW ME!
Probably a 6? I have been sewing off and on since I was 5, but haven’t ever had the time yet to really commit and be awesome at it…I have, however, worn my last three outfits out in public, so I must be getting better!
Cheryl says
SEW ME!
I think I might be a negative 1, if possible. I tried using a regular needle and thread and sewed my daughters pants to my shirt!
I have a few friends that sew and I’ve always been interested in learning so please…SEW ME!!
Kate says
SEW ME!!!
I’m probably about a 3, like Sherry. Also like Sherry, I love me some iron-on hem tape. I might be better at sewing, but my sewing machine is perpetually broken.
Sheri says
SEW ME! I’m around a 3. I sewed a simple quilt, but am lost when it comes to zippers, pleats and button holes. That’s when I call in the big guns (mom).
Susanna B says
SEW ME!
I’d say I’m a 4…
Cec says
SEW ME!
Maybe a 2? Funny thing is, I just made a pillow this weekend with hot glue because I can’t sew!
Allie says
SEW ME! I’d have to say a 2 – as in I can sew buttons and repair rips but that’s all by hand. One of my 2013 goals is to learn to sew so a sewing machine would really come in handy!
Brooke says
Sew me!
I’m about a 1–I can do buttons.
Concetta Aires says
SEW ME!
I’m around a 5- I’m currently working on reupholstering an ottoman.
Lindsay says
SEW ME! Definately a 1 but I’m willing to learn!
Jill says
SEW ME!
I’m probably a 6 or 7. My mom sewed a lot (hello jumpers with matching mini versions for my Cabbage Patch Kids) when I was growing up so I had a good teacher.
Sarah says
“SEW ME!”
I am probably a 2. I learned to sew when I was little but I really haven’t since.
Maura says
SEW ME!
I think I’m a 3. I have made a wonky bag. But I’d love to get a lot better, and I don’t have a machine…
