***This giveaway is now closed – see who won below!***
After clocking 10,000 entries under 24 hours, we’re already back to crown a random winner of the SINGER One sewing machine. The lucky person is… Angela (who says she’s a 1 on the sewing skills scale: “I can sew a straight line, but only if someone threads the machine for me first”). Congrats!
I’ve never touched a sewing machine in my life, but I’ve heard Sherry’s passionate muttering from the next room while using hers. Which is why anything labeled “Our easiest to use machine!” sounds compelling. And we’re so (sew?) excited that Singer is helping us give away a SINGER One – a feature-packed sewing machine that retails for nearly $500 – to one lucky reader! Something about an Automatic Needle Threader and OneTouch stitch selection sounds “approachable.” Plus the 24-available stitch patterns makes me believe you could fake your way into some pretty fancy stuff. Oh, and did we mention that Singer will ship this puppy anywhere in the world?
- PRIZE: A SINGER One sewing machine (a $499 value!)
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SEW ME!” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: …where do you rank yourself on the sewing skills continuum? Are you a 1 like me (I couldn’t sew my way out of a bag)? A self-proclaimed 3 like Sherry (who could probably make “a wonky bag”)? Or are you more like a 10 (who could not only sew a bag from scratch, but do so blindfolded)?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, Dec 12th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: This giveaway is available worldwide (we always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond the US – more on that here).
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Sew me! I’d say I’m around

SEW ME!
I’m probably about a -3, I could plug the machine in and that’s about the extent of it. I’d love to learn though!
Lisa R. says
SEW ME! I would say I am around a 2…I can sew general things, like a straight line, but the whole bobbin and mechanisms confuse me! If I won this, I would follow it up with a course at my local sewing center for sure! :)
Kelly says
SEW ME
I’m like a 1, maybe. But I want to learn!
Allie R says
SEW me!! I’m a 2 I’d say, just because I’m so out of practice (haven’t had a sewing machine in forever) – but I’ve been dying to get more into it!
Lindsay says
SEW ME!
Probably around a 2. I can make pillow cases.
Jane says
SEW ME!
I’m a 4. I made my barbies full on aerobics outfits as well as Montreal style fur and wool coats back in my pre-teen days. I think it would come back fast. First I’d make seat cushions and then maybe some curtains.

Sew me!
I’m definitely a 1. I am totally bananas for knitting but I envy my sewing friends who can bang out a skirt or a bag in one afternoon. I’d like to get on that instant gratification train!
Leslie says
SEW ME!
I used to be about a 5 but haven’t had a sewing machine in years. I just had my first grandchild and my daughter is already talking about the Halloween costume she wants me to make him next year!
Kayla says
SEW ME! I’m probably around a 2. Would love my own machine to practice on though.
Marymc says
SEW ME! I might have been a 6 before life got more complex with kids and work, and I quit sewing anything but replacement buttons. I am retiring in three weeks and I want to begin again. My portable 1976 Viking Husqvarna(sp)was a great machine, but it has frozen up, and anyway, it weighs a ton and I can barely lift it.
Donna says
Sew Me! I’m about a 3 as well. Simple stuff for me. Curtains, simple Halloween costumes, mostly straight line sewing. But I might try something more complicated with a machine like that.
Betsy Murray says
SEW Me! I’m a 1.5, I can do a little hand sewing and I have very vague memories of how to use a sewing machine from home ec in junior high…last time I sewed anything was just after college when I made myself a wonder woman skirt for a costume party. I’d love to refresh my memory and get back to it. : )
Melissa says
I’m a 3. I can sew simple, square things, like curtains and pillows. I can’t sew any clothing. Wish I knew how to do more hand-sewing, like mending.
Megan says
SEW ME!
I’m probably a 3 or a 4. I sewed once, as a kid, but desperately want to pick it up again. I watched my mom make clothes for all us kids and she even made my homecoming dress two years in a row. So some of that has to be genetic, right? I have been lusting after a sewing machine for years but haven’t been able to plunk down the cash.
Lisa R. says
SEW ME!!
I think I’m about a 5?? I can handle drapes, pillows, etc. However, I do not have the patience for anything that follows a pattern!!
Laura says
SEW ME! I would rate myself as a 4.5. I took a sewing class in college and did fairly well but since I have only been able to work on “vintage” sewing machines who might have seen their better days! This handy little machine might raise my rating a little bit!!
Anne Rinearson says
SEW ME!
I am super excited for this giveaway. I’m at a level 3…and I’m finding more and more needs for my OWN sewing machine! I hope I’m the lucky one!
Sarah says
SEW ME!
I’m about a .5. Have no idea how to use a sewing machine, but can sew on a button by hand in dire circumstances. :)
Mike says
SEW ME!
I’m probably a 0.5. I’d end up sewing my finger to whatever bag I’m trying to sew. However, my fiance is probably a 1, and she wants to get her DIY butt in gear and start sewing like a fiend, so she would LOVE this sewing machine.
amelia says
sew me! I am probably a 5 or 6. the more I sew the better I am. I love to do it, for crafts, halloween costumes, and gifts!
PassableBear says
Sew me! I’m a 1 but my girlfriend is a 4 and she’d love this under the tree…
Kim says
SEW ME!
I’m probably a 3 or a 4 in sewing skills. I need more practice!
Amy says
Sew me!! I would consider myself a 4 – I can make curtains and once sewed a pair of pajama pants from a pattern.
Jerrika Jerome says
SEW ME! I made a very crooked pillowcase once, so I’ll rank myself a 2. I definitely would like to improve!
Rachel J says
SEW ME! I think I’m about a 3, like Sherry.
Tara says
SEW ME!
Probably a 3 like Sherry, as all I have managed to sew is some pillows!
Rebecca S. says
SEW ME! I’m a 1 (to my mother’s chagrin), so this would be a great way to improve!!
Lindsey says
SEW ME!
I am definitely a 1, but with a nice machine and a little dedication maybe I can become a 2 :)
Kelly M. says
SEW ME!
I’m probably a 1 or 2. I can do hems and basic pillows.
Wendy says
SEW ME!
I haven’t touched a sewing machine since Home Ec. in HS, but I bet I could make something nicer than the potato sack dress I made back then!
Kristen says
SEW ME!
I’m probably a 4/5. I can use a pattern and follow directions well but I don’t know if I could create anything on my own, especially if it calls for anything more than a straight line. I have my mom’s old machine but now it’s making weird noises. I need a new one badly!
Hannah says
Sew Me! I am a 1, but would like to start learning.
Holly says
SEW ME!
Probably a 3, with hopes of one day reaching the caliber of my mother and grandmother, but would probably be happy with a 5! Of course, this sewing machine would help me reach my goal :D
AMANDA says
Sew Me…I am a 2.
Faith Plvan says
SEW ME! I’m probably a minus 5–at least!
Janet says
SEW ME! Maybe a 3. I had a hole in my schedule in 9th grade and the only available class was a sewing class. Turned out, I really enjoyed it. Haven’t done much since, though.
Brandi says
SEW ME… most definitely a big fat 0 on the sewing skills scale. But I can mend socks and slight snags and I can even sew on buttons.
Stacey says
SEW ME!
I’m probably around a 3 as well – I can do the basics, but always want to improve!
Jen N. says
Sew me!
I’d give myself a 1. I can sew on a button by hand, but that’s the extent of my skills.
Jamie says
SEW ME!
I’ve used my mom’s machine (should I admit that she has to thread it for me?) to sew a pillow and a pair of curtains. Since my skills do not go beyond sewing in a straight line I’ll have to say I’m only a 1 level!
Sara says
Sew me! I would put myself at a 5 and could probably fake my way through most basic projects – although it might not be the recommended way. Picture me facepalming – “duh, that’s how it should be done!”
Jess says
SEW ME!! I am probably a 3…made some pillow cases and basic curtains. Would love to become a pro!
Val says
SEW ME!
I’d say that I’m about an 8. I learned to sew as a little kid and I worked in a costume shop through college. Back then I was definitely a 10, but I’m a little bit rusty these days and nowhere near as patient or perfection-obsessed as I used to be. But I’m totally okay with that.
Allison says
SEW ME! I would say I’m a 1, since I haven’t sewn since middle-school home ec! We are moving into our first home and I would love to be able to sew curtains etc!
Meagan S says
I would say I was a 5. I could be higher but I have no patience to iron and cut things correctly.
Charity says
Sew me!
I’m a 3ish. I threw together some travel pillows for my girls this Christmas and the process went so well I thought, HEY! I like this!
Sarah says
SEW ME!!!
I’m definitely a 1, or a 0 if thats possible. I have been wanting to take classes and learn but don’t have a sewing machine to practice with! Would love to win this! Fingers crossed!
Alicia says
SEW ME! I would rate myself a 6. I can make pillows out of napkins! And I made my sister a Moby Wrap. I desperately need to replace Old Betsy though…
meg says
SEW ME!
I am probably a 2 – I do Sherry’s no sew panels (made five sets so far!) and can hem and do buttons. It’s all by hand though.
I don’t have a machine, and would love one!
