***This giveaway is now closed – see who won below!***
After clocking 10,000 entries under 24 hours, we’re already back to crown a random winner of the SINGER One sewing machine. The lucky person is… Angela (who says she’s a 1 on the sewing skills scale: “I can sew a straight line, but only if someone threads the machine for me first”). Congrats!
I’ve never touched a sewing machine in my life, but I’ve heard Sherry’s passionate muttering from the next room while using hers. Which is why anything labeled “Our easiest to use machine!” sounds compelling. And we’re so (sew?) excited that Singer is helping us give away a SINGER One – a feature-packed sewing machine that retails for nearly $500 – to one lucky reader! Something about an Automatic Needle Threader and OneTouch stitch selection sounds “approachable.” Plus the 24-available stitch patterns makes me believe you could fake your way into some pretty fancy stuff. Oh, and did we mention that Singer will ship this puppy anywhere in the world?
- PRIZE: A SINGER One sewing machine (a $499 value!)
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SEW ME!” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: …where do you rank yourself on the sewing skills continuum? Are you a 1 like me (I couldn’t sew my way out of a bag)? A self-proclaimed 3 like Sherry (who could probably make “a wonky bag”)? Or are you more like a 10 (who could not only sew a bag from scratch, but do so blindfolded)?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, Dec 12th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: This giveaway is available worldwide (we always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond the US – more on that here).
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Sew Me!!! I’m totally a number 1 like you John! In fact, I wanted to take sewing classes at the beginning of 2013. Winning a sewing machine would be a great way to start the new year and keep my resolution!
Stephanie says
SEW ME! I’m a 1 too John! In fact, I am so a 1 that I’ve even broken a sewing machine trying to figure out how to use the darn thing! So I’d love this machine and maybe I’d get lessons!

I am a beginner like Sherry. I can sew a basic bag and other things that call for straight lines. I cannot sew ruffles but I want to learn more!
Corrie says
SEW ME!
I would say I’m about a 3-4 on the sewing abilities scale. My White sewing machine from the 1950s (purchased for $30 at an antique booth at a festival) can only sew one type of stitch, forward or backward, so this Singer would be a dream to own!
Cindy A says
Sew Me!!! I’m probably about a 2 :) Took a sewing class in 7th grade and wasn’t too shabby. But I would need to start from scratch and relearn it again. But hopefully, if I learned it once I could learn it again and goodness knows my house would look a lot better if I learned how to sew… again! :)
Anna-Lisa says
Sew me! I’ve had two different sewing machines – one was old and free but the thread tension needs adjusted every 0.0002 seconds or it jams up, and the other is an old sewing machine table I got for $12 which runs, but only has one speed (way too fast to see what I’m doing). So I’m still very much a sewing beginner; I’ve finished some quilt blocks but everything else is just too frustrating. Having a new sewing machine would be amazing though, hopefully I could actually get some stuff done!

SEW ME!!!
I’d say I’m a 1 – can sew by hand but haven’t really tried with a machine (other than home ec in 7th grade). How is Sherry only a 3? She made that ottoman for Clara’s room!! I’ve always wanted a sewing machine!!
Kate P says
SEW ME! I’m probably a 2? I think at one time, I was a 8? But that was a long, long time ago. And now I’m a 2. No. A 3.

SEW ME!
I am a self-confessed terrible sewer. The worst of it is that my mother is an amazing seamstress who is even in the sewing/quilting business! I am a tragedy and need to learn some skills!
Joe says
SEW ME! I’m a 1. Or a -1

I would say I’m a 3-4 on the sewing scale. In middle school I took a class called “Family, Food and Friends” that was basically home economics and I learned how to sew badly.
But, I’m a mom now and I would like to someday sew halloween costumes and the like!
Stacy says
SEW ME! I would rate myself a 5. Kind of a middle of the road seamstress. I did sew my daughter’s Jessie costume (just like Clara’s!). I felt very domestic goddess like after that one!
Emily says
SEW ME!
I’ve made a few okish pillows…but there is one partial pillow case still sitting in the box because the bottom thread ran out and I couldn’t figure out how to load more…and gave up…over a year ago! LOL
Katie says
SEW ME!
I have been wanting to try sewing for a while now but cannot even thread a needle. Meanwhile my mom is an expert who used to make all of our clothes when we were little, haha
Cathy C says
sew me!!! love you guys, merry christmas!!
Jessica says
SEW ME! I can’t use a sewing machine to save my life, but this one looks fun!
Carrie D. says
SEW ME! I’m a 1: I literally don’t know a thing about sewing, but I already have a date with my grandma to start teaching me how to sew this Saturday. So this prize would be perfectly timed :)
Anne says
SEW ME! I’d be at about a 1.5. I used to handstitch clothes for my Barbies, but that’s about it. My mom made dresses (even prom) for me growing up and now quilts like it’s going out of style. Is it in style? Needless to say, I’ve been thinking about getting a sewing machine and teaching myself.
Tamrah Ryan says
SEW ME!
I would have to put myself at a 6ish… If I’m sewing something that’s not too complicated, I could be at about a 7. I envy the people who are masters at sewing, though!
Christina says
SEW ME! I used to take over my mom’s sewing machine to make quilts. I would love to start up sewing again!
Angie says
SEW ME
I have medium skills on a sewing machine – maybe a 6-7. My mom sewed all kinds of things for my sister and me when we were young (not our underwear though – Grandma did that!), she made my prom dresses, she made the bridesmaids’ dresses for my sister’s wedding, she makes fun things for my kids, etc. Through watching her while growing up, I picked up the basics. She could do the bag blindfolded, I could maybe do it one-handed (though it might look a little wonky).
Kelly says
SEW ME!!! I would consider myself a 3….I haven’t made it past a pillow cover yet…
Wilhelmina says
SEW ME! I don’t mean to brag, but I’m kind of a 10. But I did attend school for Fashion Design, so it would be kind of sad if I didn’t have mad sewing skills.
Kate says
Sew Me! I’m a zero, I wouldn’t even know how to get it started… But I so (sew?) badly wanna learn!
Nora Rose says
SEW ME!
I am a solid 5 in that I am too lazy to learn how to do more on my machine but I can accomplish enough to be dangerous with mine. Ikat pillows, check, dresses and skirts, check, kitten stockings, check!
Andrea says
SEW ME!
I’m probably a 3 like the $herdog. I’m trying to make curtains, and I’m on take 4 :)
Emma (Broke Ass Home) says
SEW ME! I am probably an 8…I’ve been sewing since I was 11, so I can sew a great deal, my sewing machine also happens to be from the 70s so I’m sure I could do a lot of damage with a new one :) PICK ME PICK ME!
Sarah says
Ummm 2-3 Id say. Remember veeerrry little from middle school home ec. But want to start! A sewing machine is one my xmas list!
Michelle I says
“SEW ME!”
I’m a 4.5 thanks to my middle school family sciences class…which only means that I can make more than a couple of different WONKY-ISH bags ;)
Rebecca says
SEW ME!
I’ll go with a 6ish on the sewing scale. I took sewing lessons on Saturday mornings with some friends growing up (geeky but fun!).
Kate says
SEW ME!!!
I’m a novice sewer (maybe a 2 after a few years of home ec during middle school), but I’ve been wanting to learn.
Jennea says

Elizabeth says
SEW ME!
I’m a “1” with the motivation of a “6”! I can’t wait to get my own sewing machine and start creating!
Bethanne says
SEW ME — I’m probably a 2 right now, haha. But I’d like to be a 7 or an 8 one day!
Katie Payne says
SEW ME! I have never touched a sewing machine in my life! But would love to try!
Erin G. says
Sadly I’m a 1.5. Ambitiously a couple of years ago I invested in sewing lessons at a fancy fabric and sewing shop because at the time I didn’t even know how to sew a button on and my dry cleaning lady continually made fun of me (I know, sad but true). So, today I could PROBABLY sew a button if I had to, but my investment in sewing lessons (and the bag and shirt I made during the lessons) just didn’t stick. So I’m a solid 1.5. Higher than a 1 because I’ve had some formal training. Lower than a 2+ because the training just didn’t stick. Oh and SEW ME!!
Christy Grap says
SEW ME! Oh, how exciting! I would rate myself a 5, kinda middle of the road. I can use a pattern but have difficulties with buttons, zippers, and anything fancy. My current sewing machine is a hand-me-down circa 1972.
steph says
SEW ME!
I would rate myself around a 4. I am somewhat competent with a sewing machine and even made myself a cute clutch once. I would like to sew a nice dopp kit for my husband..
Kim says
SEW ME! I would rate myself as a 5. I could sew reasonably well during high school and college, but haven’t sewed anything in a long time.
Katie Oz says
SEW ME!! I’ve been wanting a sewing machine for months so I can do more DIY projects. I am a complete beginner, but want to take classes.
Molly says
Sew Me!
I’m probably about a 3 on the sewing skills scale. I’m a decent hand-sewer, but I want to learn to use a machine.
Deidre says
Sew me…I am about a 2 but my mom is an 11!! So, if I win, I am giving it to Mom. :)
Jason says
SEW ME!
I’d rate myself a 2 I guess. I remember how to sew, but haven’t done it since Jr. High school.
Noreen says
SEW ME! I am a 3 right now. I’m actually working on my first project with a machine borrowed from my mom. I’d love to have my own machine.
Becky says
SEW ME! I’d say I was a solid 3. Simple lines and straight edges–anything past that and I’m in trouble. I really enjoy learning though. Recently, I made Halloween costumes for our two dogs, and they took home 1st place. woohoo!
Susan D says
Sew Me! I am a 3.5…I like to make things that have mistakes so that people know that it is homemade :)
Kristi says
SEW ME!!!! I would say I am a 5…not a novice, but nothing like my expert mother-in-law!
Christiane says
Sew me!
I’m probably a 2. I can weave the thread in and out of easy fabrics in a somewhat straight line and sometimes I can thread the needle without licking the thread. The only thing that separates this gal from a ‘1’ is Girl Scout badge skills. :)
Michelle B says
“SEW ME!” I love sewing and actually learned in high school. I made my prom dress my senior year! I loved it so much that in college I majored in fashion design and merchandising. My current sewing machine, a basic singer, has seen better days. I’d love an upgrade!!
