***This giveaway is now closed – see who won below!***
After clocking 10,000 entries under 24 hours, we’re already back to crown a random winner of the SINGER One sewing machine. The lucky person is… Angela (who says she’s a 1 on the sewing skills scale: “I can sew a straight line, but only if someone threads the machine for me first”). Congrats!
I’ve never touched a sewing machine in my life, but I’ve heard Sherry’s passionate muttering from the next room while using hers. Which is why anything labeled “Our easiest to use machine!” sounds compelling. And we’re so (sew?) excited that Singer is helping us give away a SINGER One – a feature-packed sewing machine that retails for nearly $500 – to one lucky reader! Something about an Automatic Needle Threader and OneTouch stitch selection sounds “approachable.” Plus the 24-available stitch patterns makes me believe you could fake your way into some pretty fancy stuff. Oh, and did we mention that Singer will ship this puppy anywhere in the world?
- PRIZE: A SINGER One sewing machine (a $499 value!)
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SEW ME!” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: …where do you rank yourself on the sewing skills continuum? Are you a 1 like me (I couldn’t sew my way out of a bag)? A self-proclaimed 3 like Sherry (who could probably make “a wonky bag”)? Or are you more like a 10 (who could not only sew a bag from scratch, but do so blindfolded)?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, Dec 12th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: This giveaway is available worldwide (we always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond the US – more on that here).
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

sew me! i’d say i’m a 5. i can make things off the top of my head i’ve also followed patterns, but simple ones.
Leah says
SEW ME!! I’d say I’m about a 5–pretty good, but still end up yelling at the sewing machine sometimes :)
Amanda says
SEW ME! I really hate number scales (they’re so subjective!) but I’d say I’m maybe a 7 or 8 on a sewing skill scale, based on what everyone else is saying. I can make pretty much anything I want to make (if it doesn’t have a zipper) but I don’t really have tons of experience. Mostly, I learn by trial and error and looots of internet help. I have a machine (an ancient beast) but it’s temperamental and needs lots of coddling.
Michelle says
SEW ME! I am a long term beginner. Can sew a straight seam but button holes and zippers give me the hives! Needless to say, my projects involve costumes for the kids with a lot of elastic!
Dylan says
SEW ME!
I can use a needle and thread, but that’s about it.
Meghan says

Beshie says
SEW ME!
Hmmm? I used to sew all (!) my clothes when I was in my twenties and low on cash — I even made my wedding dress. Now . . . not so much. Maybe it’s because I inherited a sewing machine that was my great aunt’s? Ancient — cool-looking — but ancient. So, maybe a 5 down-graded from an original 8 1/2.
Rina says
SEW ME!

SEW ME!!! I would be a 1..wish I was a 4 or 5.
Caroline says
SEW ME! I am a 3 like Sherry. I made some curtains for our home. They’re wonky like the theoretical bag, but they work!
beth says
I’m a 1. But it’s because I don’t have a sewing machine. If I got one, I’m sure I’d become a 10 in no time!
Ashley says
Sew me!
I’m a 1.5, but I can be a 10!
Kelly says
SEW ME!
With a mom who is a fabulous machine art quilter, I wish I could say some of her skills were passed down to me…but I’m probably a 3 as well!
Cathie says
SEW ME! I’m about an 8 with my old, old Singer and would love something new!
Nichole says
SEW ME. 1 or 2, I have taken a sewing class & made a bag, but not without lots of hand holding. Also I am terrified of the giant needle so close to my fingers!
Cassie Zimmerman says
SEW ME!
1. For sure. BUT my best friend is an aspiring seamstress so I if I’d won I’d gift her this sewing machine and expect her to do all of my future sewing!
cathy says
I’m around a 7, but only because I am so OLD.
Age does bring experience.
Sue says
Sew Me! I’m a 2 or a 3 but I’m definitely trying to get better!
kate says
SEW ME!
I think I’m a solid 6. Good enough for me, but probably not anyone else. (Read: uneven lines, mismatched threads…)
Caitlin says
SEW ME!
Probably a 2, it’s been a while since I used a sewing machine, it would constantly jam and hand sewing was almost faster!
LauraE says
SEW ME!
Definitely a 1 right along with ya Sherry!
Theresa says
SEW ME
I’d rank myself a solid 5 – in high school I was able to follow patterns to make pj pants and a fleece vest in sewing class. Now my skills need more practice which is why this machine will come in handy!! My little girl would love some handmade clothes and my windows need shades!!
Sarah says
SEW ME!!! I’m about a 7, I love to sew but am self taught and still could learn a lot but a new fancy sewing machine would help with that.
Cassie says
Sew Me!
In high school/college I was probably a 7. I even made my own swimsuit once. Now, however… I’d give myself a solid 4.5
Sam says
SEW ME!
I’d consider myself a 2. I can sew a button on or patch a pair of jeans *just* well enough to not expose myself to strangers :-).
Charlie says
SEW ME!
I’m a 2.5 – 3. I am half way through a kite bag and have made a mistake and abandoned it for now… :-S
Jeannie Riess says
SEW ME!!

Kristin says
SEW ME! I am a 4. I made a duvet comforter a long time ago. I would love a machine to do projects like pillow covers and window coverings. Pick me random generator!
Kristin
Tiffany A. says
SEW ME…. I would have to be a 3, I would sew some in high school but I haven’t sewn anything in so long! This would be great to start learning again!
Kristen says
Maybe a 7. I have been working hard on improving my skills, but still more to learn!
katrina says
sew me! I am probably a 1, but if I won I would gift this to my mom! she is an 8 or 9 and her machine just broke!
Rachel says
SEW ME!
I’m probably a 5. I can make a mean pair of pajama pants, and skirts, but things more complicated than that give me problems. It doesn’t help that my current sewing machine is 40+ years old, and only does a straight stitch.
Cris Tewksbury says
SEW ME! I am an impatient seamstress with a 5-6 ability rating. Love automatic machines- less work for me!
Lori H says
SEW ME! I am a one. Had sewing in Home Ec years ago, but now only sew on buttons. After a while of reading blogs, I think I COULD sew. So count me in please!
Kate says
SEW ME!
I would say probably around a 6-7. I just finished my second quilt but am now dealing with a broken sewing machine!

SEW ME! I used to be a 3, but I’ve backslid to a 1.
