Good news – the prize pot is now up to over $500! Even better news (at least for one lucky person) random.org has selected our winner as… Karina (who notes that both teaching and learning to share is hard, just ask her kiddos). Congrats Karina!
As we mentioned last week along with our curator collection, Joss & Main offers small referral fees in the form of store credit to anyone who refers someone who makes a purchase, but we wanted to pay those forward. So instead of accepting the referral fees, we saved all of those credits up in a separate “gift account” so we could dish ‘em out in a big fat giveaway for one lucky reader this week. Oh and Joss & Main kindly donated $100 to get things rolling (and to ensure that we didn’t have nada to give away if no one signed up, haha). But guess what? It earned over $300 worth of referral credits! So if you add in the $100 from Joss & Main, the prize pot is up to over $400 for one lucky winner to spend on whatever they’d like!
- PRIZE: Ownership of the special Joss & Main referral account that we’ve set up, which has an account credit of $430!
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SHARE ME” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: … a funny / touching / harrowing sharing story. Maybe about the time you had to share a hotel room with your boss on a business trip? Or the challenges of teaching your kids to share? Or a memory of when you and your siblings shared a bathroom / car / wardrobe growing up?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, April 4th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: The lower 48 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Joss & Main.

SHARE ME! My sharing story is retelling of the news- did you hear that Alicia Silvertone shares her food with her infant son bird-style. She chews it and then spits it in his mouth. That is strange to me and way oversharing…. To each her own, I guess.

As DIY-ers, you’ll appreciate this.
My grandparents lived in their home for 40+ years before my grandfather passed. I was much too young to remember the place, but my sisters being 10 and 14 years older, they did. My sister (who is 10 years older) wanted to show me the “fireplace” in the backyard one trip back home. My grandfather had done almost everything in and out of the house, but one of the best stories had come from the fact that he had sent my father and uncle out every night when they were ripping up the brick streets to collect as many said bricks as they possibly could. He knew he would do something with them, but he didn’t know what. Eventually, he hit upon this gargantuan fireplace in the backyard that would be used to burn trash and such. But once it was built, he couldn’t use it (new rules and regulations plus a tree grew over the top). This thing just stood in the backyard for YEARS. But when my sister took me to see it, it had just recently been demolished. I had the idea in my head though (being a precocious 12-year-old) that my sister should go and grab a brick from the pile that hadn’t been removed yet. She grabbed half a brick (she was afraid she’d get caught) and we brought it home to my father as a gift. It was his best father’s day yet.

SHARE ME!!LOL…I know all about sharing! I’m the youngest of my Dad’s 4 children and the oldest of my Mom’s 3…yup, that makes me one of 6. And I have 37 cousins on my Mom’s side of the family, she’s one of 14 kids. So you could say we know ALL about sharing!

My mom always made super healthy, elaborate lunches for us (my sisters and I) while growing up. She tried to change everything up, now and then, to keep us interested. One day she had 1,000 things to do and asked my dad to make the lunches. She listed things he needed to do; cut up some melon, cut up the carrots and celery, make the tuna salad, and freeze the bottles of water. When she got home from her errands, I saw her laugh the hardest I’ve ever seen. He had mixed the melon with the tuna salad (mayo, onions, etc). To prove a point, he ate it, the whole thing.

SHARE ME! In college, when living in the sorority house, I shared a room and a single bathroom with 5 other girls! If anyone else has experienced such living quarters, you’ll understand how much you really love your own space when you move out!

SHARE ME! I shared a room with my sister growing up…despite the fact that we had another empty bedroom (guest room). My Mom thought it would be good for us to learn to share…still not sure if it actually worked haha.

When my now-husband and I were on one of our earliest dates, it came time for dessert ordering. He immediately said defensively, “I don’t share dessert!” I’m like, OKAY WEIRDO..no one asked you to. My goodness. Thankfully, he was otherwise a perfectly wonderful guy who now DOES share his darn dessert. With the baby.

We’re working on teaching our 19-month-old to share, but I find myself responding to his frequent declarations of “MINE!” with a rational, tempered “No, actually that’s mine.” Not exactly leading by example, but trying (every day)!

SHARE ME! My sister and I were supposed to be sharing a bathroom in high school, but she never allowed me to actually share with her, so I was forced to shower/ get dressed in the downstairs bathroom with the slimy floor.

SHARE ME! My sister, mom and I shared the bathroom every morning (and it was the size of a closet), nearly all our clothes, and shoes. I think it may have been harder for my mom when we left because we moved onto sharing with roommates, and she was left with a single wardrobe!

We lived in a few different homes throughout my childhood, but in one I remember sharing one bathroom between the five of us so my parents put a TIMER on the shower. It was the only way to ensure everyone got a warm-ish shower. When the timer went off the shower stopped, whether you were done or not!

SHARE ME! My brother and I shared our first car (Volvo!). One day I went out to the garage and found a HUGE dent in the front passenger door as well as the car’s paint on the right garage door frame. My brother had driven to dinner the night before so it’s not hard to figure out he was responsible. To this day he denies it!

SHARE ME!!! Had to share a car with my dad when I was in high school and it wasn’t easy trying to hide the fact that an old man rolled backwards into me at a stop light putting his truck hitch right into my bumper. My dad probably would have been sympathetic if I would not have been skipping school with my best friend for the first time in my life when it happened! What are the chances?! LOL

My siblings and I all shared a bathroom. I was actually in the bathroom while my brother was brushing his teeth and was horrified to see him using my toothbrush. Of course, he swore that the toothbrush was his and has always been his. Gross……I had no idea how long we had been sharing a toothbrush! From then on, my toothbrush was always kept in my room!

SHARE ME! My mom always tells me this story of when I was little. We had a large family so we didn’t get soda pop very often and when we did we had to share. Well I guess when I was around three I was asked to share a can with m little sister or not get any at all. For some reason I chose none at all. I don’t know what I was thinking!

I feel like I’ve been talking a lot about sharing lately! My “mommy” friend and I do a lot of sharing like “I need a diaper or can I borrow some wipes until my order comes tomorrow?” and we are always “sharing” advice. I feel lucky to have such good friends Now we have to teach our children how to do the same!

On sharing toys – a child I know brought a pail and shovel to the playground. She was not excited about being asked to share them with the other kids there. Her mother said, “if you don’t share your things, we’re going to leave and we won’t bring them anymore.” Her daughter replied, “fine, let’s go! I don’t want to share with these people anyway!” Smart girl. :-)

In college, I rented a 6 bed/ 1 bath house with 5 other girls. We all thought it would be awful sharing 1 bathroom, but we did really well! We set a rule that the bathroom was only for showering, toileting, and teeth brushing. No one was allowed to do makeup or hair in the bathroom and we all followed the rule, so there was never any issue.
