Good news – the prize pot is now up to over $500! Even better news (at least for one lucky person) random.org has selected our winner as… Karina (who notes that both teaching and learning to share is hard, just ask her kiddos). Congrats Karina!
As we mentioned last week along with our curator collection, Joss & Main offers small referral fees in the form of store credit to anyone who refers someone who makes a purchase, but we wanted to pay those forward. So instead of accepting the referral fees, we saved all of those credits up in a separate “gift account” so we could dish ‘em out in a big fat giveaway for one lucky reader this week. Oh and Joss & Main kindly donated $100 to get things rolling (and to ensure that we didn’t have nada to give away if no one signed up, haha). But guess what? It earned over $300 worth of referral credits! So if you add in the $100 from Joss & Main, the prize pot is up to over $400 for one lucky winner to spend on whatever they’d like!
- PRIZE: Ownership of the special Joss & Main referral account that we’ve set up, which has an account credit of $430!
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SHARE ME” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: … a funny / touching / harrowing sharing story. Maybe about the time you had to share a hotel room with your boss on a business trip? Or the challenges of teaching your kids to share? Or a memory of when you and your siblings shared a bathroom / car / wardrobe growing up?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, April 4th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: The lower 48 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Joss & Main.

Share me! Growing up we only had one bathroom for our entire family. Needless to say, sometimes it got crazy frustrating!

We shared a kitchen with a room mate who could barely boil water. She once mistook a wooden cutting board for our pizza baking stone (I guess because they were both flat?). The cutting board was part of a pair, so it had a couple magnets glued to the underside. When I got home, the kitchen smelled like burnt plastic and I found the magnets stuck to the walls and trays of my oven. I was perplexed until I saw the burnt cutting board in the sink.

(or in my case, OVER-SHARE ME!)
ok – so two short sharing stories here because i just couldn’t choose between them…
The first is a story of over-sharing by two sisters:
My sister is 11 years younger than me and we have always been close. The summer after I returned from 2 years in the Peace Corps we went on a shopping excursion with our mom. While she ran into Best Buy to check out some appliances, my sister and I picked up some chili cheese fries from Culvers and took advantage of some down time in the car to catch up over a little snack. Somewhere, deep into conversation, my little sister had taken a bite of hers and some of the chili had dribbled onto her chin. Without any thought I simply reached over, swiped it off, and ate it myself. Half a second later we realized what I had just done and completely dissolved into laughter. To this day (8 years later) the memory still makes me laugh. :)
The second story is the story of over-sharing by my younger brother (then 14) and my grandpa (then 90):
They shared a hotel room when traveling for my wedding. My younger brother Jim (who I should mention is extremely sensitive to all kinds of smells) loves long, steamy showers and had already been in for 30 minutes or so when my grandpa started knocking (then pounding) on the door telling him he needed to use the bathroom as well. Apparently my brother didn’t leave quickly enough because my grandpa couldn’t wait any longer and burst in to do what he needed to do. Poor Jim. Poor, poor Jim.
The end.
p.s. thanks for all of the great posts! always entertaining, inspiring, and fun to witness the evolution of your cozy little nest!

We’re trying to get our 14 month old to learn the concept of sharing right now. He loves to share his snacks, but only for a moment. He’ll put a goldfish cracker in my mouth, but then expect to get it back for him to eat 10 seconds later! One thing he’s always been great at sharing is his germs!

myself, my twin sister, and my oldest sister shared a car in high school which we lovingly nicknamed “rocky the box” (he previously belonged to my grandpa and while in excellent condition, was rather box like…an 87 oldsmobile if you’re wondering. silver with burgundy velvet-ish interior…oh yea, every teenage girls dream car!). for three busy teens, it was a bit of a juggling act but rocky got us to and from school and chauffeured many groups of girls around over those few years. still love and miss that car!

My most harrowing sharing story was sharing a house with 4 other girls in college that only had ONE bathroom. While 3 of the girls were friends from my sorority, the 4th was a random girl who liked to do Tai Bo in our family room in the dead of Illinois winter with the door open, while our ancient furnace struggled to try to keep the heat at a reasonable temperature. We ended up with GIANT heating bills that definitely caused fights between us and the random girl!
So glad I don’t have to deal with living with people I don’t actually want to live with anymore!

My aunt and uncle only had one bathroom in their house with 5 girls and a boy. The funny thing is when they were down to 2 kids at home they finally installed another one in the bedroom closet of their master suite, after discovering that the original plans called for one there. We were happy to move into a two bath because my 6 year old loves to hog the bathroom and can’t wait.

The neighborhood kids kind heartedly refer to “my” blue mom bike as the “family bike”. I like to ride it to school for work but my husband and two sons use it when they are the first to find it free on the weekends. :)

My fiance’ lives alone and isn’t used to sharing. He owns his home and is kind of struggling to come to terms with the fact that everything (especially his house) will be 50/50 after we get married. Right now I’m remodeling the master bedroom closet (one bar and shelf all the way around definitely wasn’t enough for all of our clothes) and yesterday, he came home to find me painting his bathroom. He was shocked, but surprisingly gracious about it. I have many projects planned for his-soon to be our-house.

This weekend one of my roommates and I were cutting back bushes in front of our new house, when suddenly he squealed like a little girl and jumped back out of the bushes. Expecting there to be a snake, I did the same. Nope. Poison Ivy. He proceeded to chase me around the yard with the evil plant. Now we are both covered in the stuff. Apparently the whole ‘kids share everything including germs’ adage doesn’t go away in your mid twenties.

SHARE ME! My husband and I recently realized he needed a new car after we spent an entire evening trying to replace the front brakes. Just visualize him laying on a bright blue tarp in the apratment parking lot with me standing over him holding 2 large umbrellas (because of course it was raining!) and the spotlight. I was also newly pregnant at the time and we bought the wrong bolts so had to make a second trip to Lowes in one night. New cars are definitely the way to go!

SHARE ME! I used to share baths with my little sister when I was young. I guess she hadn’t completely mastered control of her bowels, because she would often poop in the tub while I was in with her (yet my mom would still make us share)! One time, I jumped up so suddenly to avoid the dreaded poop that I slipped and cut my toe on the drain! It was so bad I had to get stitches! Needless to say, I never bathed with my little sister again.

The best story I have was the time my poor husband came home from Deployment. There was a party for the entire unit as a “Welcome Home.” Having not had a beer in twelve months, he was drunk as a skunk about ten minutes in. Our romantic night ended with him promising not to puke in the cab and me pouring cup after cup of coffee in attempt to sober his silly self back up. Needless to say, we aren’t used to partying anymore!

SHARE ME! As children with siblings, our parents always taught us to share with one another. My younger brother and I (1.5 yrs younger) were walking to the movies whern I was about 10 years old. I saw a crumbled up paper bag, beant down and picked it up. Seven dollars inside, EUREKA! My brother and I shared lots of concession snacks all afternoon at the movies. :-) We normally just took a box of Cracker Jacks (each)!

I started a new job on the same day as someone who would turn out to be one of my closest friends. We shared a cubicle together and named it ‘the west wing.’ When you sit only a few feet from another human being, sharing made the small space bearable. We shared laughs, lunches, stories, and pies (awesome when heated up in the toaster oven).

I was an exchange student in London in college. My mom and sister came over to visit me. I missed them so much that i decided to stay the weekend in their hotel with them rather than stay with my (not so nice) host family. none of us had ever stayed in a foreign hotel room before and did not realize they can be much smaller than American standards. To make a long story short, the three or us ended up sleeping sideways on what was considered a king bed but seemed like a double for the 3 nights they were in town!
