Good news – the prize pot is now up to over $500! Even better news (at least for one lucky person) random.org has selected our winner as… Karina (who notes that both teaching and learning to share is hard, just ask her kiddos). Congrats Karina!
As we mentioned last week along with our curator collection, Joss & Main offers small referral fees in the form of store credit to anyone who refers someone who makes a purchase, but we wanted to pay those forward. So instead of accepting the referral fees, we saved all of those credits up in a separate “gift account” so we could dish ‘em out in a big fat giveaway for one lucky reader this week. Oh and Joss & Main kindly donated $100 to get things rolling (and to ensure that we didn’t have nada to give away if no one signed up, haha). But guess what? It earned over $300 worth of referral credits! So if you add in the $100 from Joss & Main, the prize pot is up to over $400 for one lucky winner to spend on whatever they’d like!
- PRIZE: Ownership of the special Joss & Main referral account that we’ve set up, which has an account credit of $430!
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SHARE ME” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: … a funny / touching / harrowing sharing story. Maybe about the time you had to share a hotel room with your boss on a business trip? Or the challenges of teaching your kids to share? Or a memory of when you and your siblings shared a bathroom / car / wardrobe growing up?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, April 4th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: The lower 48 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Joss & Main.

And I’m the only girl in my family, so lucky for me, I never had to share clothes! I guess this is an “anti-sharing” story.

SHARE ME! When one of my friends got married, she put my husband and I up with one of her childhood friends (another bridesmaid). The only problem was, she and her husband were re-doing their guest bathroom, so if we had to use the bathroom (in the middle of the night like we always do), we had to sneak into their master bedroom to use THEIRS! I’m pretty much a fan of sharing, but having to sneak into someone’s bedroom in the wee hours of the morning to use their bathroom was crossing a thin line of privacy on both sides. :)

I’m an oversharer like you! Want to know what I did yesterday? I will tell you every detail, even though it was fairly boring. And then will end up telling you my life story. And no one will ever inquire about my day again. :)

SHARE ME! My husband shares his drinks with me, but it kills him…so I guess I have to teach him sharing by constantly sipping his drinks! Lol

SHARE ME: My mom and I have developed similar taste and we often end up with each other’s purchases, esp. thrifting! I found a sweet (and valuable) vintage Susie Cooper dish thrifting when my mom was in town and she played it coy but as soon as I washed it, it disappeared. She had placed it beside her on the dining room table. To admire it, I guess. When I told her she could, of course, have it she beamed. She didn’t want to ask for it if I loved it, but I bought it because I thought she might want it.

SHARE ME! Haha..one time my two sisters and I had to take a shower together when we were young to save time..we were already crabby and proceeded to argue once in there. Well, it led to one shoving the other, who then fell into the 3rd, and the 3rd landed on her butt outside the tub, shower curtain down, water raining over us all!!

Like the good friends that we are, my roommate and I still share a bunch of clothes. I borrow her scarves and earrings, she borrows sweaters – instantaneously larger wardrobe!!

Growing up in a family of 6, we lived in a ranch with ONE bathroom. So, we learned very quickly to overcome bathroom shyness. Gotta pee like crazy while your brother is in the shower? Well, get right in there, and make sure you alert him to the fact that you are in there. lol This was astonishing to many friends who were lucky enough to have more than one bathroom in their house. We made “sharing” a bathroom between the 6 of us quite efficient, thankyouverymuch.

When we were in elementary school my younger brother and I had to share a room for a few months while our Grandma lived with us. I didn’t mind since got the lower bunk and made a pretty awesome fort where I could read at night without getting caught!

We’re having an interesting conundrum trying to share an apartment in Paris over the summer (tough luck, right?) But it has been a good lesson in compromise. Check out some of our options – here (international house crashing, yes!!!)

SHARE ME!! When my daughter was 5 years old she saw a little girl around aged 2 crying while she was eating dinner with her parents and so my daughter took her toy that she had just received with her meal and went and gave it to the 2 year old. The 2 year old girl stopped crying right away and my daughter was so proud of herself (so was I as her Mother).

SHARE ME!!!!! My current sharing story would be about my one year old. He’s a little too eager to share with our dog when he’s eating, he throws every other bite onto to the floor so that Zoey can have food too. Cute at first, a bit wasteful now, and I can’t get him to stop! But at least his intentions are good :)

One time when me and my older sister were younger, we tried sharing the toilet to pee at the same time. I didn’t work, my mom was mad, there was pee on the floor, but we thought it was HILARIOUS!

I’m a twin, so I’ve shared a TON of things with my brother over the years. I always laugh when people who forget I’m a twin tell me on my birthday that “it’s all about you” when, nope, it never has been, and that’s perfectly fine.

I went to an out of town wedding with my boyfriend and his whole family. His brother’s girlfriend and I used to share a room at these type of functions but they recently got married. To “avoid upsetting” my boyfriend’s two (single) sisters, his parents suggested I share a room with his mother and he would share with his dad! We were in our mid-twenties but it was pretty funny. I didn’t mind and we are married now.

Growing up, we had a rule about sharing: If you paid for something with your own money, you didn’t have to share with siblings. Seeing as how our main expense was candy, this meant you didn’t have to give away any of your Skittles, and it encouraged us to use our own money for stuff like that. Smart parents.

The cleanest bathroom I ever had in college was the one year it was co-ed! I think the boys tried to keep it nice for the girsl and vice versa. It was great!

The best sharing story I could think of came immediately to me, based on a post I wrote 2 years ago for my own site.
The full post with pictures is here:
http://www.spriteskeeper.com/my_weblog/2010/04/so-it-turns-out-that-sharing-is-not-a-two-way-street.html
but the dialogue went down exactly as written:
“Want some apple slices?”
“Yes, please.”
“Have a seat and I’ll cut some up for us.”
Joining her a few minutes later with a loaded plate of cut fruit, I place it between us.
“Thank you, Mommy!”
Ah, manners. I’m totally taking credit for that.
Watching her take a slice for each hand, I then reach for one of my own. And immediately lose the wedge to her pinching grasp. “Hey!”
“That’s my apple.”
“No, it’s for both of us.” My hand reaches out again to nail the point home and gets blocked by hers.
“No, this is not yours.”
“Whatever happened to sharing?”
“My apple.”
To cement her argument, she then picks up every slice and chomps a half moon into each one, claiming ownership.
She’s five now and STILL this way, although she loves to cite the sharing rules when she sees me eating an apple by myself. :-)

We mentioned to our toddler that he’s a big boy now, and since he can use a big-kid swing, he could start using that on our back yard playset, and let his baby sister use the baby swing after she arrives in May (and is old enough to use a swing). He replied, “well, mama, she isn’t even here yet, sooooooooooo I’m gonna still use both swings, mkay?”

I was so happy to share my “something blue” from my wedding with a family member. It would be great if we could pass it along throughout the family.
Bonus…on a family vacation one year my dad forgot my suitcase so as a 14 year-old girl my 11 year-old brother had to share his clothes with me for 4 days.

SHARE ME! My high school friends and I get together every five years at a semi-exotic location. Last time we met, they all totally over-shared info about their husbands as well as personal info best left unsaid. I kept my mouth shut and to this day (five years later) can’t think about that vacation without remembering their stories. Now really, should you tell someone you only see every five years all your business?!
