Good news – the prize pot is now up to over $500! Even better news (at least for one lucky person) random.org has selected our winner as… Karina (who notes that both teaching and learning to share is hard, just ask her kiddos). Congrats Karina!
As we mentioned last week along with our curator collection, Joss & Main offers small referral fees in the form of store credit to anyone who refers someone who makes a purchase, but we wanted to pay those forward. So instead of accepting the referral fees, we saved all of those credits up in a separate “gift account” so we could dish ‘em out in a big fat giveaway for one lucky reader this week. Oh and Joss & Main kindly donated $100 to get things rolling (and to ensure that we didn’t have nada to give away if no one signed up, haha). But guess what? It earned over $300 worth of referral credits! So if you add in the $100 from Joss & Main, the prize pot is up to over $400 for one lucky winner to spend on whatever they’d like!
- PRIZE: Ownership of the special Joss & Main referral account that we’ve set up, which has an account credit of $430!
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SHARE ME” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: … a funny / touching / harrowing sharing story. Maybe about the time you had to share a hotel room with your boss on a business trip? Or the challenges of teaching your kids to share? Or a memory of when you and your siblings shared a bathroom / car / wardrobe growing up?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, April 4th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: The lower 48 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Joss & Main.

This past December we had saved our water bottles for months and months. We stuck the 5+, large bags of smashed bottles into our van to take to a recycling center, come to find out the center was closed due to it being Christmas Eve. On Christmas night, at 11:00 pm, as we were heading home from our final family stop, we came across a man searching for bottles in trash cans with a large pull cart. We decided to pull over and “share” (or give) all of our bags full of bottles to him. He was extremely grateful, and it was the best part of our whole Christmas.

Share Me! My friend from High School and I studied abroad in Spain for a semester in college and shared a room in family’s house. After too many tapas and daily siestas, we both packed on a few pounds and outgrew our pants. In the last couple months of our stay we literally had two pairs of pants between us both that fit us. We would get up in the morning and pick which ones we were wearing for the day. We still laugh about it…

Share me!! I grew up sharing a room with my sister. For the most part it was great except for the fact that I am much neater than my sister. Once we put a strip of tape down the middle of the room, and it seriously helped!

I love Joss & Main… thank you!
My roommate in college, who is still one of my BFF’s, was very particular about her clothes and really didn’t share (even though she may think she did). My other roommate and I were jealous of her amazing assortment of clothes and drooled over all of her outfits, she was lucky to have a mom and dad supporting her AmeEx bills every month. We both decided to wear one of her shirts (one for each of us) out one night while she was out of town. Looking back, I can see that we did a rude thing, but even after coming home, washing, ironing and placing the shirts neatly back in her closet, our roommate knew!! Within minutes of returning home from her trip we could hear her yelling “I know you guys wore my clothes!” She could tell and we confessed. She noticed that the shirts were not in the same place in her closet! I swear, she had a photographic memory! To this day I never ask to borrow her clothes and she never offers! I think she still holds a grudge against us!!

My older sister and I are only a couple years apart and we shared a room for a whole lot of years growing up. Those are by far some of my favorite memories we’re still really close because of it. We would watch scary movies and we’d both be so scared that we’d sleep in the same bed. Not only that, but we slept in the basement alone and the bathroom was upstairs, so if one of us had to use the bathroom during the night, we’d wake each other up and sneak up-stairs together so that nothing would get us.
Years later at the end of college we shared a basement apartment for a few months before we both got married. We still loved living together, although neither of us will go anywhere near scary movies to this day.

One time in college, I worked for a professor who would send me on random errands all over campus. Once I was in a building that was practically deserted because it was going to be torn down in the near future. I didn’t see anyone but one guy the whole time I was in the building. I delivered the thing my boss needed me to, and then I needed to use the restroom. I found the men’s bathroom, and assumed the women’s would be nearby somewhere, but I couldn’t find it anywhere! So I thought, “Well, the whole time I’ve been in this building I’ve only seen that one guy, right when I came in. No one is here.” So I popped into the men’s room, and figured I would just hurry and use it and get out of there, no harm done. But then while I was finishing up, washing my hands, the only guy I had seen the whole time came in! And I tried to laugh it off and say, “Oh, hi, I couldn’t find the girls restroom!” but the guy was SO awkward and embarrassed about it that it made me feel awkward and embarrassed too!

This last February, I attended a blogger’s conference, and to save money I posted on the conference’s Facebook page that I was interested in sharing a hotel room. One lady responded, and we talked over the phone and felt good about sharing the room. I had a 14 hour drive (alone) ahead of me, and when I arrived, I was EXHAUSTED. But my temporary roomie talked incessantly until 1 a.m. when she finally rolled over and immediately fell asleep – only to reveal that she was a horrendous snorer. I mean, it was so bad, that even with my Ipod playing tunes in my headphones, the snoring STILL overpowered it! Tugboats are quieter. I made loud coughing noises, banged on the wall and then pretended to be asleep, I even shouted her name to tell her her phone was ringing, all to no avail. Even after getting a whiskey at the hotel bar, I still didn’t get to sleep. By the time I left the conference, I was so out of it, that when I handed my roommate some cash for my half of the room, it wasn’t until I had driven out of town that I realized I had accidentally given her cash for the ENTIRE amount of the room (not just my half), and she had taken it without correcting me! As a result, a person would have to prove they were pregnant with the Christ-child before I share my room with a stranger ever again….then again, maybe winning something back would get my heart feeling generous again ;-)

Shared a 2 bedroom, 1 1/2 bath + kitchenette dorm suite my freshman year at Marymount Manhattan College with…..SEVEN other freshman girls. It was horrid. 4 girls in each bedroom, with one shower, and one sink for all those stinky dishes (no dishwasher!) and 8 different sleep schedules was the worst dorm experience anyone could ask for! Somehow survived.

The Husband and I just bought our first home together. :) After 68 days of escrow (should have been 60) and TONS of paperwork later (darn lenders were driving us mad to the point of tears on my part) we finally got the keys to enter last Thursday. And we are wasting no time getting to work on our home. Choosing the paint color has to be one of the hardest things!! I can’t figure out what I want for our bedroom nor what will be the living room color. Eeeps.

SHARE ME! My mom loves recounting the story of when I was 4 and my brother was 2 and I was angry because he wouldn’t give me some toy. My mom said I should share my toys with him to be a good example and I retorted, “But I don’t need to learn how to share, he does!”

SHARE ME! At a previous office, women and men had to share one bathroom. I assumed this meant everyone tried to be a bit more aware of their bathroom habits, but soon discovered it meant watching where I stepped and possibly cleaning the seat off before I could use it. Seems the men in that office had horrible aim. Glad I don’t work there anymore!

My husband seems to think that marriage allows him to share anything on my plate at any time. Which is usually fine. However, if it’s something really, really yummy that I don’t want to share I have to lay down the law. And then he makes a sad face — and I give him some anyways. *sigh*

My husband is an only child and when he was young his mother said whenever someone would come over he would jump on top of his toys and say “MINE”. Needless to say he wasn’t big on “sharing” when we met. When we went out to dinner I couldn’t taste his food, as he would say “if you wanted it you should have ordered it”. Thankfully a few years later he has learned to share. :)

When I was little my family went on a fishing trip. I hated fishing (fish guts = BARF!) so I opted to dance around in the bed of my dad’s truck. While be-bopping along to Paula Abdul, I felt a warm sensation in the middle of my face. I looked at my reflection in the back glass of the truck and saw a shiny something on my nose. Then I felt intense tugging and gut wrenching pain!! The shiny thing was a fishhook attached to the fishing line attached to the fishing pole that my mom was violently whipping around trying to get it cast! She thought it was stuck in a tree and kept jerking, but oh no, that hook was stuck in my nose (yes, there was a worm on it too)!!! I screamed, the whole fam came running and next thing I knew I was on my back with my mom holding down my arms and my sister pinning down my legs and my dad was crouched over me with pliers cutting that darn hook out of my nose! It was horrible!! Needless to say, to this day, I will not fish…or dance around in truck beds! :P

My little brother is 6 years younger than me and when he was really little, he’d always beg to share my can of soda. I’d always tell him when I drink it down to here (and point at a line about a centimeter from the bottom), you can just have the rest! It took him a few years to figure out he was mostly drinking room temperature backwash by that point, AND he’d be in charge of finding a place to throw away/recycle the can when he was done since “he” finished it. Worked pretty well in my favor for a while. :)
