Good news – the prize pot is now up to over $500! Even better news (at least for one lucky person) random.org has selected our winner as… Karina (who notes that both teaching and learning to share is hard, just ask her kiddos). Congrats Karina!
As we mentioned last week along with our curator collection, Joss & Main offers small referral fees in the form of store credit to anyone who refers someone who makes a purchase, but we wanted to pay those forward. So instead of accepting the referral fees, we saved all of those credits up in a separate “gift account” so we could dish ‘em out in a big fat giveaway for one lucky reader this week. Oh and Joss & Main kindly donated $100 to get things rolling (and to ensure that we didn’t have nada to give away if no one signed up, haha). But guess what? It earned over $300 worth of referral credits! So if you add in the $100 from Joss & Main, the prize pot is up to over $400 for one lucky winner to spend on whatever they’d like!
- PRIZE: Ownership of the special Joss & Main referral account that we’ve set up, which has an account credit of $430!
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SHARE ME” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: … a funny / touching / harrowing sharing story. Maybe about the time you had to share a hotel room with your boss on a business trip? Or the challenges of teaching your kids to share? Or a memory of when you and your siblings shared a bathroom / car / wardrobe growing up?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, April 4th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: The lower 48 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Joss & Main.

SHARE ME… My older brother and I had to share the most un-cool car in high school – an old, gray, rusted Ford Taurus wagon. I was voted worst car my senior year, but the plus side was that there was plenty of room to cart my friends around!

I had to share a hotel room in New Orleans with a priest. Wait it gets better — he had sleep apnea and a LOUD breathing aparatus he required in order to sleep safely, and I had to finish up a take home final exam on mass spectroscopy by flashlight. good times…

My husband and I moved for a job change and stayed in a DIRT CHEAP rental house … (we’re talking maggots in the fridge, broken duct taped windows and mice running around in the attic….thank goodness for our cats standing vigil we never saw a single one). We never unpacked and spent 2.5 months and Christmas there. We were across the street from his work and a block from Central Market. Despite the GROSS conditions, it’s one of our favorite periods of time. Just enjoying each other and exploring the city.

SHARE ME! I had 3 guys as roomates for a few years. Oh the horror stories I could tell about them. The worst is the sick in the sink story. Enough said? To be fair, their biggest pet peeves were stepping on the plug for my curling iron, and the way I would hang-dry my “delicates” on the shower rod after handwashing them.

We recently moved into our “forever home”. Moving with a 4 month old and having a wife who is used to hands on helping with projects and such was difficult. Helping was holding the baby, nursing and keeping our baby girl happy….boy was that frustrating for her!

My sister and I are only 20 months apart, and she took sharing a little too far when we were younger…as in, she “shared” my underwear! (Is it really sharing if the owner of said item does not want it to be shared? I say it’s borderline stealing!) I got her back, though. I “shared” that memory in my maid-of-honor speech at her wedding. :)

SHARE ME! I was set up on a blind date a few years back and we met for dinner at Applebee’s. Way too many awkward interactions to mention and I soon realized he was way younger and still in high school!?!?!? wowza. When the bill came he told me his mom gave him $20 and he used $10 for gas so didn’t have enough to cover the bill…! I paid for most of the bill and I’m pretty sure I ran to the car and never looked back!

in middle school, i was in my church’s youth group with my brother and sister (both close in age) and we went on a camping trip. we all tend to be ‘oversharers’ and are not shy really about anything- including details of our trips to the port-o-potty….which earned us the tag ‘TMI’ too much info) for the whole trip. Still, about 15 years later, our friends will pull out the ‘TMI’ in convo.

SHARE ME! as a kid, my brother was always getting flats on his bike. being the nice sister that i am, i offered up my bike when he was complaining that he had to walk to baseball practice. my bike happened to be this neon green, very girly little thing. he borrowed my bike, not really thinking anything of it, but got teased pretty bad when he showed up to practice on his sister’s girly little bike.

I have a funny story to share. My two year old daughter was blubbering away, so sadly, and I went over to see what was wrong (afraid she might have been hurt, or maybe her older sister took a toy from her, or something along those lines). I get over to my daughter, and she sobbing and saying “I don’t liiiiiiiiike it”, and I see that she has a booger stuck on her finger, that she can’t get off because then it stuck to her thumb, and so and so forth, and it had sent her into a toddler despair. It was so hard to not laugh at her traumatic nose-picking.

“SHARE ME!” My son was getting breakfast and lunch everyday the first week of school (kindergarten). We kept telling him not to get lunch b/c we provide a packed lunch. His response, “I don’t see the big deal, it’s FREE!”

SHARE ME! I begrudgingly shared my toys with my little sister growing up, and one year Santa brought her the Barbie Dream House that I’d been begging for FOREVER. (Honestly, I’ve never quite forgiven my parents for that slight.) So when it came time to sell our shared Barbie water park (gifted to us years ago by an aunt) at a garage sale, I convinced my gullible sister that it was just mine and I pocketed all of the whopping $10 proceeds. Still haven’t shared it!

In 2010 my husband, sister, and 7 other friends all went to South Africa to watch the World Cup. We were incredibly lucky to be hosted by family friends for part of the trip, except that their were a lot of us, and only a few beds. Long story short, I ended up having to share a bed with my husband on one side, and my sister on the other, with me in the middle! I had nowhere to turn without a person right next to me, so needless to say, I instituted a strict, sleep facing away from the middle, and don’t breath on me rule!

Growing up, I hated sharing a hotel room with my parents and brother because they like to have the TV on while they fall asleep, whereas I need it perfectly dark and silent!

SHARE ME! My brother and I were usually pretty good about sharing and I don’t have children yet. The best story about sharing I can think of at the moment is the “Shared” wall between our bedrooms that my brother and I had growing up. What was so funny is that, during a fight, one of us would go to our room and slam the door to make some sort of point. The other would follow just to make a similar (hopefully louder) slam. Then we’d still be mad and inevitably one of us would start yelling and the fight would continue through the wall like we were in the same room. However, due to the location of our closets in said rooms, we basically were standing in our closets fighting through the wall.

I was traveling to Germany for a summer semester in college. I was alone and of course there were delays and I got stranded in Atlanta, for a whole weekend! But I got to meet 5 other girls who were traveling to the same city I was and we shared a hotel room all weekend until we made a flight out. We had a great time and became close friends.

SHARE ME! When I was in kindergarden, I apparently hadn’t gotten the memo on sharing yet. My mom got a phone call from my teacher saying that I had broken all the crayons that my table had to share for the year… oops! My punishment was using all the broken crayons for the rest of the year while the rest of my table got brand new ones. I got the memo, I’m good at sharing now :)

Share me! My sister (two years younger) and I had to share a bed briefly when we were 10 and 12. My parents were adding on to our house after adding on to our family (my two other siblings are 8 and 10 years youger than me!). Little sister thought it was HILARIOUS to pop my fingers and toes every night after I fell asleep. WHO DOES THAT?! Needless to say, I was to happy when the construction was over and I had my own bed back. Just recently, she lived with my husband, son and I during a “transitional period” and I was SO tempted to return the “favor.”

SHARE ME!!! :) I was pretty ornery towards my younger sister growing up… she was very gullible and I loved using that for my own enjoyment. One Friday after school I convinced her that we were going to go to visit some family friends a few hours away. I told her that mom and dad said to clean her room, pack a bag, finish her homework, and practice piano and oboe for 30 minutes each. She excitedly finished all the tasks I listed off for her before mom and dad came home from work. It was so funny! I was so mean to her(I’m sure I was in middle school at the time!)!

My comment is actually about the benefits of *not* sharing. My husband and I have been married for over 16 years and we are the happiest couple that I know. I tell people that one of the secrets to our successful marriage is that we don’t share a bathroom! We did in our first place for a short time, and we quickly realized that sharing a bathroom = pointless arguements, for us anyway. Separate bathrooms keeps both of us happy!

My sister and I shared clothes often growing up…sometimes without the other knowing. One time, my sister gave me a (Sublime) tshirt for my birthday. About a week later I saw a pic of her at a party wearing it three days before she gave it to me – silly, trickster!

My tale of woe/humor is brought to you via my 6 (soon to be 7) year old son. This morning he woke up and was convinced that it was his birthday (it is tomorrow). No matter what I did I could not convince him that I did not tell him yesterday that it was his birthday today. The scene included lots of tears and mad looks in my direction all morning. I tried to appeal to his logical side but that didn’t help…I tried to apologize, that didn’t work…fortunately I had to go to work….I guess we will see how he is feeling towards me in a couple of hours :)
