Good news – the prize pot is now up to over $500! Even better news (at least for one lucky person) random.org has selected our winner as… Karina (who notes that both teaching and learning to share is hard, just ask her kiddos). Congrats Karina!
As we mentioned last week along with our curator collection, Joss & Main offers small referral fees in the form of store credit to anyone who refers someone who makes a purchase, but we wanted to pay those forward. So instead of accepting the referral fees, we saved all of those credits up in a separate “gift account” so we could dish ‘em out in a big fat giveaway for one lucky reader this week. Oh and Joss & Main kindly donated $100 to get things rolling (and to ensure that we didn’t have nada to give away if no one signed up, haha). But guess what? It earned over $300 worth of referral credits! So if you add in the $100 from Joss & Main, the prize pot is up to over $400 for one lucky winner to spend on whatever they’d like!
- PRIZE: Ownership of the special Joss & Main referral account that we’ve set up, which has an account credit of $430!
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SHARE ME” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: … a funny / touching / harrowing sharing story. Maybe about the time you had to share a hotel room with your boss on a business trip? Or the challenges of teaching your kids to share? Or a memory of when you and your siblings shared a bathroom / car / wardrobe growing up?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, April 4th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: The lower 48 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Joss & Main.

hmmmm… the only thing that comes to mind is the mistake of my sister and I deciding to share a room when we were about 10 and 8… we had a bunk bed and fought like cats and dogs… big mistake. huge.

My story is about my parents’ beagle, who did NOT like to share. Every time I’d visit, she’d quickly run to the little couch and get on the side next to the lamp, seemingly knowing that I’d want to sit on that side.

SHARE ME! Just today I accidentally came to work without my wallet. And I realized at lunch time my gas tank was on empty. :( A friend and co-worker of mine graciously bought me gas for my 30 minute commute home. Not stranded now, yahoo!
Thanks for the giveaway – so awesome of you guys!

We’re god parents to two adorable little boys that are learning to share. This is great, except the last time we visited, the older boy decided to “share” his chewed on cookie. Yum?

My twin sister and I shared a bedroom until we were 11. Then, one disastrous day, we had to clean our room. I wanted to organize our book shelf alphabetically and my sister just wanted to put the books on the shelves to get done. A large book fight erupted and my mom’s response was to give us our own rooms!

Once when I was little, about 4 or 5 years old I went on a trip with my family, I don’t remember where but we did fly on a plane and we got to sit in the seats that faced the opposite seats in front of us. This rather large woman came and sat down in front of us and she took up two seats and began trying to make the seat belts meet. She would get really close and one end would just fly out of her hand. After several failed attempts I looked at my parents and said “She’s never going to make it” in a not so quiet tone. Of course the nice lady heard me and said “you’re probably right sweetie” and the flight attendants brought her an extender for her seat belt. It was probably one of my parents most embarrassing moments.

In an effort to save him from dribbling all over his pants we started remind our son to “shake it” after using the restroom. A few weeks ago I took him into the ladies room at a restaurant where he proceeded to holler at me from the sink “DID YOU REMEMBER TO SHAKE YOUR PENIS MOM?”
Seriously.

Oh boy, a “sharing story”. Well, I don’t know how other parents approach this topic (if they do at all), but ever since I could remember, my mom always told me never to share any drinks with anyone because I could catch a cold or any other kinds of saliva transmitted diseases. So until I was in junior high, I had never shared any drinks with anyone (not even my family)! But one day, after tennis practice, my friend asked me if she could have a sip of my soda. I didn’t wanna say no since I didn’t wanna look like a freak, so I let her take a sip and figured I could just throw the rest away.. but I was still thirsty and felt silly throwing away a good can of soda so I nervously took a sip after my friend. I totally thought I was gonna catch a deadly flu or meningitis the next day, but I was fine.. and that’s how I got over my “sharing” fears. Please tell me there are others out there like me. haha

Share Me! Mine isn’t a true sharing story, but more of a hand-me-down story. I was the baby of the family so everything was second hand for me (or thrid hand, or even fourth hand) growing up. I got tired of it when I was younger, but I don’t think I would mind having a few hand-me-down Joss & Main credits.

When I was in middle school my parents moved my family 6 hours from home. We were having our new house built but alas it was not finished by the time we had closed on our previous house. We moved into a 2 bed 1 bath 600 sq ft. apartment. Me and my brother shared a room for 6 months while our new house was being finished. Since the room was so small there was only space for one twin bed (the bed came with the apartment!!). The theory was that we would alternate nights on who got to sleep in the bed. Suffice to say my bigger and more muscular older brother “convinced” me that every night was his night. I slept on the floor for 6 months…Once we did get to move into our new house, I was never so happy to have my own bed. I don’t think I have slept on the floor since.

SHARE ME! I went to college in Indiana, where they have Steak n’ Shake… the best imitation diner ever. I went there and got an XL chocolate shake with double hot fudge, and then went straight over to my friends dorm (soon to be boyfriend turned fiance). I wouldn’t give him a single sip. He still gives me crap about it. I don’t like to share delicious shakes!

As the youngest of 3 girls growing up, I always got used to sharing clothes and accepting hand me downs. We still will share clothes occasionally but I’ll admit it, if it looks better on either of them, I’m quick to say how unfair it is.

Sharing is GREAT! However, it can bite too. My poor daughter, who is tall and soon to be 12, had to share riding gear w/ her height challenged 10 yr old step-brother. She’s patiently and nicely shared this gear for several years now. Being a girly girl, I haven’t paid much attention to the whole dirt bike hobby of theirs. Until 2 weeks ago. When my daugther came into the house wearing the chest protector. The chest protector that is supposed to cover your torso, but looks more like a bra on her b/c it’s supposed to fit a 2nd grader, not a 6th grader. That was it, sharing was over! It was time to order the poor kid some new gear, in her size. After sharing so well for 3 yrs, it was long overdue for her own riding gear. She’s a happy rider now (:

Last spring my girlfriends and I took a cruise that left out of Mobile, AL. We live in Kansas City and decided since it was a 12 hour drive, we would take shifts and drive straight through. On the graveyard shift Ginger was at the wheel in a dodgy part of Memphis and went through a yellow-to-red-right-now light. Since we were in my car, the traffic cam that caught this captured my license plate and sent the ticket to my house. We SHARED the fine of $45 since the rest of us agreed that we wouldn’t have stopped there either!

My now husband and I went on a trip with a friend to a popular music city. We all shared a hotel room and it was a nightmare. She went to the bathroom in the middle of the night with the door open and didn’t wash her hands! It was disgusting. There are some things we didn’t need to know…

My husband and I have one small bathroom (with a single pedestal sink) in our house – learning how to share this space after we got married was quite the challenge. We make it work, but I sure am looking forward to dual sinks in any future home!

I was on a Mission Trip to Mexico and our group was going to a nice restaurant. All of the other girls brought dresses and I only had a pair of ugly khaki pants. Two of the girls shared their clothing with me so I could look nice for dinner. It was one of the nicest things anyone has ever done for me.

Many, many years ago when I was 18, I was a backpacking scamp on the Greek Island of Paros and had to share a room with a total stranger. My travel partner fell in love one night and took off with her paramour…and our hotel room key and the directions back. I was left with the young man’s travel mate who, upon realizing my predicament, graciously offered me one of the two twin beds in his room. I woke in the morning to find myself sitting fully upright, facing this guy, with hand in the air making a “picking” gesture, and say emphatically: “pick-pocket.” Turns out I was giving this total stranger 20 minute German lesson in my sleep and the word for that lesson was “Taschendiebe.”

SHARE ME!! I took my daughter grocery shopping once and had no room in the cart for the gallon of milk after we checked out so I had to either carry it or it had to sit in the seat next to her in the cart. “I’ll share my seat with milk!” followed by putting her arm around it and hugging it was about the funniest thing I had seen that day (the cashier too!).

“SHARE ME” I have a brother that is 3.5 years younger than me, and my very earliest memory as a child is my Dad talking to me about sharing right before he was born. I wasn’t too keen on it then, and I think it took a good five years before I was able to embrace the concept. :)

I grew up with 2 sisters, and sharing a room with them was one of the most fun things about it. At one point we all shared a bedroom with what we called a “pyramid bunk bed”, a twin on the top and double on the bottom. My sisters and I would always stay up late talking :-)

SHARE ME! I recently had to share a hotel bed with my doctoral advisor, the lady who’ll be writing my recommendation letters for the rest of my career. She snored something awful, so I slept on the floor, intending to move back into bed before she woke up and noticed. But I didn’t wake up, and she noticed and asked why I was on the floor. In a groggy state, I said she was snoring really loud. She was embarrassed, I was embarrassed, and every one else in the room was embarrassed. Oh well.

I think my happiest sharing story is that I now share a sewing room with my mom – the downside of sharing the space is totally counteracted with the increased creativity from talking about what we’re doing with each other, plus added Mom time is always cool.
