Good news – the prize pot is now up to over $500! Even better news (at least for one lucky person) random.org has selected our winner as… Karina (who notes that both teaching and learning to share is hard, just ask her kiddos). Congrats Karina!
As we mentioned last week along with our curator collection, Joss & Main offers small referral fees in the form of store credit to anyone who refers someone who makes a purchase, but we wanted to pay those forward. So instead of accepting the referral fees, we saved all of those credits up in a separate “gift account” so we could dish ‘em out in a big fat giveaway for one lucky reader this week. Oh and Joss & Main kindly donated $100 to get things rolling (and to ensure that we didn’t have nada to give away if no one signed up, haha). But guess what? It earned over $300 worth of referral credits! So if you add in the $100 from Joss & Main, the prize pot is up to over $400 for one lucky winner to spend on whatever they’d like!
- PRIZE: Ownership of the special Joss & Main referral account that we’ve set up, which has an account credit of $430!
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SHARE ME” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: … a funny / touching / harrowing sharing story. Maybe about the time you had to share a hotel room with your boss on a business trip? Or the challenges of teaching your kids to share? Or a memory of when you and your siblings shared a bathroom / car / wardrobe growing up?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, April 4th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: The lower 48 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Joss & Main.

I never had sisters growing up…so when I got to college I just pictured my roommate and I sharing all our clothes…like what I imagined sisters did. Well…it didn’t work out very well because when I finally met my roommate we discovered that I was 10 inches taller than her! Alas, we could not share clothes without looking ridiculous. :(

Our harrowing story involves our son, who is now a year old. James was born March 3, 2011, after a very stressful morning in the labor room. After an emergent C-section, the nurses discovered that they he was coughing on his own saliva and that they couldn’t pass the suction catheter down his throat into his stomach. So as I’m still on the operating table, he is whisked away to the NICU where they diagnosed him with esophageal atresia with a tracheoesophageal fistula. In other words, his esophagus wasn’t formed properly. Without surgery, he would never be able to eat. We had him baptized in the NICU at 3 days old, and he had corrective surgery the next morning. He was 4 days old.
James spent 30 days in the NICU, 2 weeks of which he was on “crib” rest. We couldn’t take him out of his crib or hold him for those two weeks. He was tube fed starting at about 2 weeks old and then slowly advanced to a bottle. I pumped my breast milk for him every 3-4 hours for those 30 days. I was finally able to nurse him when he was around four weeks old. It was a huge struggle to get him to latch properly but I’m proud to say he’s been nursing for just over a year and still going strong.
Today (April 2) marks exactly one year that James has been home from the hospital. He’s perfect and has no problems to speak of, plus he has one hell of a battle scar.

“Share me” On my 10th birthday, I got off the bus and there was a note from my Grandmother saying that my Mother had been taken to the hospital to have my baby sister. My sister was born on my birthday ten years apart. My dad called me that night and asked me what I wanted to name her and I said Paige Michelle after one of my dolls and that is what they named her. I got to enjoy birthday parties for way too long because we shared a birthday, but my sister never lets me forget that I am 10 years older her.

SHARE ME! I am a major sleep talker so anytime I have to share a room/bed with non-family I almost always end up embarassing myself. Once as a sophomore in high school I yelled at a senior (in my sleep) about still being awake. She was not very nice to me the rest of the trip!

I shared a bedroom with my younger sister from the time I was 17 mos. old (when she was born) until I graduated from high school. Then, all I ever wanted was my own room. Now, I would give anything to go back to those times! We had some rough moments but more often than not, they were some great ones! :)

My sister and I used to have a hard time sharing space in the car on family trips. One year we tried to build a barrier from ceiling down with pillow cases. We thought it was pretty cool till our parents saw it and told us to take it down.

When I was younger I went to a church trip with my friend and the hotel over booked so I ended up sharing a room with five girls plus one adult chaperone in a two queen bed room, with no extra cots available. I have trouble sleeping on floors so I ended up sleeping curled up on a ottoman-like thing that almost half of my body hung off of. Surprisingly it was actually quite comfortable.

For awhile, my 2 younger sisters and I had to share a small bedroom, with only 1 set of bunk beds. We had to take turns of who was sleeping on the mattress on the floor. We were really glad when that phase was over.

I would say one of the biggest lessons on sharing was when I was a bus-seat partner with my then-boyfriend now-husband for a whole summer, when we marched in a Drum and Bugle Corps. Basically, we toured the US all summer (played in shows/competitions/parades), and sat by each other for every bus ride (some of them 14+ hours!) It was somewhat of a challenge then, however, we are very good travel buddies now!

My first college roommate used to use ALL of my stuff. We weren’t close friends at all (more like forced acquaintances) and I would come back from class to find her using my laptop, eating my food, or the worst- clipping her toenails on my bed! Ew! I am soooo glad that experience is over.

I am sharing an apartment and all my stuff with my boyfriend. We became roommates when a really good friend moved out because of a conflict with the land lady. My boyfriend had just been accepted to my university so he packed a bag and left England to come to America (we met each other one summer and feel in love). I was nervous about living with a boyfriend as it was unconventional for me, but the last two years have been amazing! I’ve never enjoyed sharing so much :)

I dog-sat for my boss (the CEO) while he was in Europe on business. His sweet Doberman, Tanner, took ill halfway through the week, and, after surgery (and then ANOTHER surgery to open up his chest cavity to MASSAGE HIS HEART), he passed away a day later. My boss never used his cell phone when he traveled internationally, and didn’t even leave me any contact info. So I had to make all of the surgery decisions (and pay 50% up front) without any discussion with him. The day after the dog died, he finally called me and I had to tell him that Tanner died. He was very calm (I was NOT) and said “it’s just a pet.” So I said, “well, then I’m not going to tell you how much the surgeries cost, because I know you’re not going to say ‘it’s just money’.” (Over $4K, btw). I kept my job and he got a new Doberman.

share me! i just spent a fun year sharing an office/job with a coworker who became one of my best friends. she is now off exploring south america, and i’m working a few more months before heading off to med school. it was a great experience to work so closely with someone who made me laugh so hard but also supported me so wonderfully at work. we dubbed ourselves “frofficemates” (friends/officemates) and i miss her :)

My cat used to go outside and hang out with the strays of the neighborhood. She was vaccinated and would always come back before dinner, so I didn’t worry too much when I’d open the door and see a flash of fur bolt bolt through. She went missing for a few days once, and I finally found her by shaking her treat jar and following her meows – she had fallen into the wall of an abandoned garage nearby! My lovely neighbor shared her crowbar -and her time – to help me pry some planks apart to get my cat out. Luckily she is fine, and I had an awesome neighbor!

SHARE ME. Not a funny story, but a fun group…about a year ago I started a facebook group called HILA. The groups mission is to SHARE random acts of kindness through HOPE, INSPIRATION, LOVE, AND ART. My two young sons and I are the only members of the group that are still active, but it brings so much joy to our lives. Tomorrow we are going “egg bombing”. I’m putting words of encouragement into plastic eggs and we are going to go hand them to random people and leave some for people to find. I’ve made this a regular part of our lives and it makes me such a proud mama to watch them do kind things for others.

My uncle tells a story of a time when he, my father, and their 3 other siblings were growing up. Seat belts may as well have been unheard of in their rural Alabama town. Their parents would gather all 5 of them and any neighborhood kids and pile them into the car to drive to church/school/town. My uncle says that so many people were sharing a car that he would have to sit in the back window. He jokes that they used to teethe on the back dash, which had no fabric on it, when the car would hit bumps.

Just this weekend, my husband and I shared a hotel room at a wedding with another couple. It was a trendier hotel and the bathroom had one wall (that faced the rest of the room) that was only frosted glass. We were all sure it wasn’t see through, but let’s just say we all shared a bit more than we were expecting if we got too close to that frosted glass!
