Good news – the prize pot is now up to over $500! Even better news (at least for one lucky person) random.org has selected our winner as… Karina (who notes that both teaching and learning to share is hard, just ask her kiddos). Congrats Karina!
As we mentioned last week along with our curator collection, Joss & Main offers small referral fees in the form of store credit to anyone who refers someone who makes a purchase, but we wanted to pay those forward. So instead of accepting the referral fees, we saved all of those credits up in a separate “gift account” so we could dish ‘em out in a big fat giveaway for one lucky reader this week. Oh and Joss & Main kindly donated $100 to get things rolling (and to ensure that we didn’t have nada to give away if no one signed up, haha). But guess what? It earned over $300 worth of referral credits! So if you add in the $100 from Joss & Main, the prize pot is up to over $400 for one lucky winner to spend on whatever they’d like!
- PRIZE: Ownership of the special Joss & Main referral account that we’ve set up, which has an account credit of $430!
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SHARE ME” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: … a funny / touching / harrowing sharing story. Maybe about the time you had to share a hotel room with your boss on a business trip? Or the challenges of teaching your kids to share? Or a memory of when you and your siblings shared a bathroom / car / wardrobe growing up?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, April 4th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: The lower 48 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Joss & Main.

SHARE ME! Teaching my kids to share has been so difficult. They are great about sharing with friends and even strangers, but getting them to share with each other is nearly a lost cause!

We are constantly teaching our little one the meaning of sharing! However, when it comes to her food, the girl LOVES to share. She always wants to put a big bite in our mouthes and ‘share’!

SHARE ME! As a military spouse, we move a lot! We’re currently in our 4th house in less than 3 years! It’s fun to be able to decorate so many spaces, but difficult to know what furniture and decor will fit in each home. Luckily, all of the places we’ve lived so far are near the ocean, so the breezy beach theme is here to stay! (until our upcoming move in 2013!)

Share me! When I was in middle school, I hated sharing a bedroom with my little sister so much. When my parents finally agreed to let me “move” into the spare bedroom, I was so excited that I tried to move my mattress down the stairs by myself. My parents were upset, but couldn’t stop laughing.

I had a younger sister who liked to share my bed with me when I was in middle school. She didn’t like to sleep alone. I, being a stubburn/greedy teenager, decided I should make some money off of this. I would charge her $.25 – $.50 to sleep in my bed with me. You can say at that point, I wasn’t the sharing type – at least not with my bed. Not a proud moment. I feel I’m a better person now though :)

When my brother (30, a grown man) used to visit, without fail he would forget his most essential toiletries. Oddest items shared? Deodorant and a tooth brush – I kind of wish I had never figured it out but unfortunately some ‘evidence’ was always left behind. Ew. He is married now and thank god just borrows his wife’s items.

The last suggestion about sharing a bathroom reminded me of sharing 1 bathroom with my 2 sisters growing up. My gosh, the fights; they were epic!

My husband and I had to share a bathroom in Chicago for three years. It was so nice to finally move into a new place that had four (!!) bathrooms so we could get ready in the morning in peace.

Sharing is hard concept for me to be honest. Growing up as the oldest of three I was always “encouraged” to share and inevitably my things were destroyed. It’s easy to smile about now, but having your sister rip apart your copy of lady and the tramp was heartbreaking at the time. At least I still have the cassette. :D

This morning my 4 year old son told me he wanted to be a sheep hunter when he grew up. This was funny because I was suprised he knew about hunters and his target was sheep. :-)

And as for sharing… my son is 10 months older than Clara. I really don’t think they understand the value of sharing while playing at this age, or that is what my favorite parenting blogger Janet Lansbury says. Its not normal for turn taking to occur until kindergarten, when a greater empathy capacity happens.

I used to HATE sharing a bed with my sister on family vacations. I guess we were one step above our younger brother who got the floor!

Like many other I had to share a bedroom with my sister growing up. We also had to share a bed. There were many a fights about the other sister coming over “the line” on to the others side of the bed. What this taught me was to sleep on just my side. Even when I had my own queen bed I’d wake up to find the other side was not disturbed. Now that I share my bed with my DH if I could only get him to do it!

SHARE ME!!! I share my bed every night with my dog Max who likes to take his half right out of the middle.

“SHARE ME” At a recent overnight work conference, my roommate had a little too much red wine. I realized she’d had a little too much wine when she tried to sit in the chair next to me and missed it completely! It was hiliarious!

My sister’s share story is funnier than mine and she won’t care if I tell it. When she was a little kid she received a candy bar one afternoon. Apparently she knew if she sat around and ate it in front of my parents they would ask for bites, so she went and hid in a dark bathroom to eat it. My parents were running around the house looking for her (probably frantic)while she sat on the side of the tub and enjoyed her treat.

SHARE ME! my favorite sharing moment happened while i was teaching kindergarten a few years back. we were having a valentine’s day celebration and one of the boys in my class refused to share the red construction paper. when i asked him why, he said that he needed to make “all of the valentine’s cards in the world.” i asked why so many, and he hesitated before confessing that he was making them all to give to me because he loved me so much… that was the most difficult “sharing is caring” conversation i’ve ever had.

when we moved into this house last fall, the truck could not get up our hill so them men said they would come back the next day with a smaller truck to go up and down the hill. in the meantime, they said they would leave our mattresses… well they could only get to one of the twin mattresses, so our kids had to share it for the night and they did so well! my husband and i were shocked and proud! :)

SHAERE ME! As a kid, my little brother DROVE. ME. NUTS! Anything and everything he did was wrong, unacceptable, needed to change…including the way he breathed. I thought he breathed too loud, too often, WHY ARE YOU BREATHING??!!?? AHHHHH!!! Now that we’re adults we laugh about it often – does that make we the worst person ever that I told my kid brother to just stop breathing?!??

SHARE ME! One time when my family was on vacation and staying at a summer home of one of my Dad’s uncles, there was also a “biker dude” that happened to be staying in the same house for a one-day overlap on our trips. He was a very nice guy, but my mother was overly cautious. My sisters and I were mean to her when we hid in our bedroom closet the morning after he left. She panicked when she came in to get us after he was gone and she couldn’t find us. It was really mean of us, but we laughed about it for years.

SHARE ME! I live in a tropical area and close to the beach where many a critter like to lurk. I was all alone one night watching tv on the couch when I saw a little movement out of the corner of my eye. There was a cockroach sitting on the arm of the couch literally milimeters away from my arm watching Big Bang Theory with me! I think I jumped from there to half way across the room in olympic speed records.

Hmmm, a sharing story. I guess the most recent these days would be the occasional night I have to share a bed with my toddler due to bad dreams. They are so cute and peaceful, until they are kicking you in the face or trying to roll off the bed in their sleep! ;)

SHARE ME! My sister and I are only about a year apart, and have always been pretty close (thankfully) … but as we’ve gotten older, we’ve definitely gotten to be even better friends. We went to the same college, and were able to raid each others’ closets and trade clothes whenever we wanted a change. I loved basically having 2 wardrobes to choose from!
I moved to Seattle 2 years ago (sis is in NC), so we basically have the entire country between us and I really miss being so close that we could share things all the time. (Fortunately, technology makes it easy to communicate as often as we want!) I think maybe it’s time for us to set up a semi-annual clothing exchange through the mail!
Thanks for the great giveaway!

SHARE ME a birthday story. I share my birthday with a surprising number of people from my hometown. My band teacher, a figure skating coach, a classmate, my brother’s godmother… it goes on. I’m sure this happens to a lot of people, but it always seemed special growing up!

When I was in high school, I worked at a Japanese sushi restaurant that I’m fairly certain was operated by the mafia. I never realized it at the time, but they only paid in cash and there were lots of weird men in and out of the kitchen with large packages…oh the naivety of a 17-year-old!

sharing a room in college was my big wake-up call about sharing. there were lots of challenges with my roommate but the most consistent was when she would lock me out of our room when i went to take a shower, even when i told her to leave the door unlocked for me. visiting our male RA in my towel every couple of weeks to open my door… yikes.
