Good news – the prize pot is now up to over $500! Even better news (at least for one lucky person) random.org has selected our winner as… Karina (who notes that both teaching and learning to share is hard, just ask her kiddos). Congrats Karina!
As we mentioned last week along with our curator collection, Joss & Main offers small referral fees in the form of store credit to anyone who refers someone who makes a purchase, but we wanted to pay those forward. So instead of accepting the referral fees, we saved all of those credits up in a separate “gift account” so we could dish ‘em out in a big fat giveaway for one lucky reader this week. Oh and Joss & Main kindly donated $100 to get things rolling (and to ensure that we didn’t have nada to give away if no one signed up, haha). But guess what? It earned over $300 worth of referral credits! So if you add in the $100 from Joss & Main, the prize pot is up to over $400 for one lucky winner to spend on whatever they’d like!
- PRIZE: Ownership of the special Joss & Main referral account that we’ve set up, which has an account credit of $430!
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SHARE ME” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: … a funny / touching / harrowing sharing story. Maybe about the time you had to share a hotel room with your boss on a business trip? Or the challenges of teaching your kids to share? Or a memory of when you and your siblings shared a bathroom / car / wardrobe growing up?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, April 4th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: The lower 48 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Joss & Main.

My most harrowing recent sharing moments are from babysitting. Which until September (when the “real” job starts) I’m doing right now about 25 hours a week. I was at the manhattan children’s museum with the almost-3 year old I’ve been spending oodles of time with lately. We were at the “grocery store” and he was hoarding the plastic veggies in his shopping cart. He walked up to another child, who was perhaps in the 1.5 to 2 year old range and grabbed a plastic eggplant right out of her hands. Obviously, I immediately bent down and got uncomfortably close to his face and we had a little chat about sharing and how taking things from other people hurts their feelings. In the end it was all okay, he gave the eggplant back, said something mostly resembling “sorry”, the other adult observing the situation seemed to not want to kill me for my horrible child teaching-life-lessons skills, and almost-three-year-old and I shared a bit hug while I told him I was proud of him for doing the right thing and giving the eggplant back. But the entire time I can’t help but worry/wonder, what if he just calls my bluff? Will we have a melt down? Will I stand strong and physically remove squirming kicking toddler from the grocery area? Will this new tenuous babysitting relationship be spoiled? Thank god, I didn’t have to find out. And hats off to you real parenting folks. I’m sure that when Clara has similar boundary testing moments you don’t find yourself quite as frozen with fear-of-the-toddler-temper as I was. Your patient calm voiced talk down probably was more sincere and less let’s-hope-this-works as mine.
Anyhow, as I told almost-three-year-old, “isn’t playtime so much more fun when we share?” He responded: “yes. And when we take a good nap!” I hear ya kid.

I definitely have not-so-fun memories of sharing a room with my six-years-younger sister… first I was in junior high and just wanted to have my radio on or talk on the phone late at night while she wanted to sleep… then I was living at home while attending college and *she* was in junior high wanting to have her radio on late at night while *I* wanted to sleep… :-P

I don’t know if it’s funny, but I have a hard time sharing certain things. When I was little, I would have friends who would want to share their bathing suits with me, and I was icked out. Now, I get a little fussy when somebody, even my husband, shares my towel uninvited. I try to keep my cool, but I sometimes let my picky-ness get the best of me. For shame!

SHARE ME!! I used to have to share not only a bedroom, but a queen sized bed with my older sister. She didn’t allow me to decorate the room with my things at all and gave be about 10 inches of bed space, punishable by a knuckle sandwich if I crossed the line. To get her back one time, I woke up in the middle of the night and snuck out to get a drink…upon returning, I poured the entire glass of water on the bed and told her I had wet the bed. Needless to say, we didn’t have to share a room for much longer. :]

My baby sister, who is about 6 years yonger than me, wanted to “share” fish feeding responsibilities with me for my tank full of neon tetras. When she was about 5, she went into my room to feed them and it happened to be raining outside. She thought the fish would be cold in their tank so she cranked up the heater and, yup, boiled all my fish. Needless to say we stopped sharing pet duties after that. :)

This weekend my 3 year old niece said she wanted more sausage at breakfast. There was only 1 piece left and my sister hadn’t even had her 1st piece yet. As she put the sausage on my niece’s plate she said “do you know how much I love you?” (the answer being: more than sausage) and my niece said “umm…30 bucks?!”

My younger brother played on a competitive hockey team for 14 years. One time we were in Las Vegas for a tournament and one of his roommates got sick. I volunteered to let him stay in my husband and my room so he didn’t get sick as well. In the end, it ended up being my husband, myself, then my brother all in a bed for the weekend. Thankfully it was a California King and my brother didn’t get sick! :)

A story that is extremely touching to me is that of the birth of my first homebred horse. The mother is a horse I have owned since I was 12 and she was 3. There were some problems during pregnancy and his birth but I remember watching the vets work their magic with a smile on my face and tears in my eyes. He will be 4 in July and I just mailed the entry for his first competition in two weeks. The epitome of pride and joy!

On one of my first business trips I had to share a room with a co-worker. It was bad enough that she snored like a locomotive…. but at three in the morning the fire alarm went off. It was a mad scramble getting out of the room, down the stairs and standing outside in a robe until the fire department determined it was a false alarm.
I was just glad I had a robe with me… which wouldn’t have been the case if I hadn’t been sharing a room with someone. LOL

I guess a funny one is when I ask my 1.5-year-old son to share food with me, he is sometimes kind enough to take the food directly out of his mouth to share with me. It is sweet but kind of gross! Thank you!!

When I was in college, I spent a year living in the tiniest room ever with a close friend – she loved to borrow my clothes, and I didn’t mind…until my clothes started never making it back in my closet. I had an intervention with her and she honestly didn’t realize she was not returning my stuff – we’re still friends to this day so it all worked out!

When I was around 11 years old, my little brother saved up and got himself a Nintendo Gameboy. I was so, so, SO unbelievably jealous…until he very sweetly explained he got the Gameboy to share with me. So he’d play a level of Mario, pass it to me, I’d play the next level, pass it back, you get the picture. What a great brother!

Share me! After trying to drive from Yosemite, CA, to Portland, OR, in one day, we decided to stop for the next just 2.5 hours short of our destination as we were falling asleep at the wheel. We checked in to the roadside Motel 6 @ 1am with my husband, son (3yrs), daughter (6 months) and dog. After 2.5 hours of listening to the TV blaring next door, my daughter crying, my son wetting the bed and the dog running circles in the room, we checked out @ 3:30am and hit the road. No sleep was going to happen in that room!
