Good news – the prize pot is now up to over $500! Even better news (at least for one lucky person) random.org has selected our winner as… Karina (who notes that both teaching and learning to share is hard, just ask her kiddos). Congrats Karina!
As we mentioned last week along with our curator collection, Joss & Main offers small referral fees in the form of store credit to anyone who refers someone who makes a purchase, but we wanted to pay those forward. So instead of accepting the referral fees, we saved all of those credits up in a separate “gift account” so we could dish ‘em out in a big fat giveaway for one lucky reader this week. Oh and Joss & Main kindly donated $100 to get things rolling (and to ensure that we didn’t have nada to give away if no one signed up, haha). But guess what? It earned over $300 worth of referral credits! So if you add in the $100 from Joss & Main, the prize pot is up to over $400 for one lucky winner to spend on whatever they’d like!
- PRIZE: Ownership of the special Joss & Main referral account that we’ve set up, which has an account credit of $430!
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SHARE ME” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: … a funny / touching / harrowing sharing story. Maybe about the time you had to share a hotel room with your boss on a business trip? Or the challenges of teaching your kids to share? Or a memory of when you and your siblings shared a bathroom / car / wardrobe growing up?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, April 4th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: The lower 48 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Joss & Main.

I… can’t think of any good sharing stories. :(

SHARE ME! I’m actually terrible at sharing, which I think is my grown-up response to the fact that I shared a 9×10 bedroom with my sister from the ages of 5-13. Those were.. good times. Our birthdays were in the same month too, so we often had joint (or shared) birthday parties. Gah. Anyway, I’ve evolved from forced sharing, into never sharing, back into learning to share cause its nice, under the guidance of my husband. I still don’t believe in sharing dessert (or birthday parties) though.

SHARE ME! I’m going to cheat a little and use a sharing story from my husband’s childhood. To be fair, as the youngest of 5 kids, he has a lot more experience sharing than I do ;) There’s a classic vacation story of a road trip where the only room for my little 4-year old hubs was shoved in the way back of the station wagon (before the days of seatbelt laws, of course). I think he loved his spot back there with the family dog and the luggage…until the back door swung open and he flew out of the car. Wearing a speedo (not sure why that was his outfit)?? He and his next oldest brother also shared a bedroom with their parents when their grandma moved into their house for several years (his parents very kindly gave up their master for grandma). He jokes that it wasn’t so bad being in the same bedroom as his parents and his bro. After all, they were only his “formative years.”

I had to share a birthday cake with my older brother! Ugggg my birthday is January 27 th and his is March 12 th? So they split the date down the middle, really? But when you are number 4 of 5 kids and mom works full time, I guess I was lucky to get cake at all :)

I didn’t like the sandwiches my mom made for us every day in grade school. I think it was the lunchmeat. I shared the sandwiches with my friend and in turn she shared her hot lunch pizzas and mac and cheese with me. My mom still doesn’t know I wasn’t a fan.

I never had to share a bedroom – but my brothers, who were 7 years apart did. My older brother hated it, and always complained about his “shadow”

SHARE ME! When my sister was maybe 4 years old, she and my mom were on the way home from a party, and she announced from her seat “I’m going to save this cookie for Rachel.” Five minutes pass, and then my mom hears her say out loud “I’m going to share half this cookie with Rachel.” Another five minutes pass…. and then my mom hears my sister announce “I’m going to tell Rachel about this cookie!”

share me – my second day working on Capitol Hill and impeachment and my boss came In and asked me what was the “cigar” thing with Clinton and Lewinsky – needless to say we felt pretty open about communication after I shared that as clinically and professionally as possible – eewwew,

since I am a twin, sharing is in my nature – room, car, clothes, etc… although, my freshman year roommate (an only child) probably wished I didn’t share so much :)

I once shared my bikini with my friend growing up as she forgot hers and we wanted to go swimming…I wore the top with jean shorts and she wore the bottoms with a t-shirt. I think we started a trend and all of us girls started doing that!

SHARE ME!! The funny story that comes to mind, is when I was a kid, we had a day in one of our classes, where everyone got a prize. Unfortunately the teacher miscounted and came up 2 prizes short. I forfeited my prize so the other kid could have it, so she gave me, and another kid who also tried to forfeit, a cookie to share lol.

I don’t really have a sharing story to tell, I’m just happy to not be sharing space with anyone anymore.

Share me! As a kid I shared a “bedroom” with my brother. It was really the family dining room with access to the kitchen, the living room through an arched wall with no door and the only bathroom in the house. At the age of 13 we moved to Florida where I shared a room with my 70 year old grandmother for the next six years. Good times!

My friends and I share abilities. All three of us are disabled but in different ways, So we do the things the other one can’t. An example from this week, one person can’t stand long enough to do dishes, while another can’t drive after a stroke, So we traded clean dishes for rides.

I’m used to sharing a bathroom – my husband and I share a small bathroom. But growing up, we only had one TINY bathroom to share between my parents, my 2 brothers, and me. We used to announce anytime we were using the bathroom and it took me awhile to get out of that habit once I got to college.

SHARE ME!!! Um, does “sharing” all my kids’ candy from various Easter and birthday events last night count? The saddest part is that neither of them was really all that surprised when I told them this morning that mama ate all the chocolate after they went to bed last night. Apparently there’s a precident for such things. ;) And yes, I got them more candy. :)

I “taught” my husband to share food–before meeting me, his plate was his territory only. Now, he makes his menu choices knowing that I’ll probably have a few bites :)

Learning to share a bed with my husband has been one of the hardest sharing lessons I’ve ever learned! About 5 out of 7 nights a week I end up smack dab in the middle of the bed. Maybe someday I’ll learn that my half is NOT in the middle :)

Growing up I was the only girl with two older brothers. We shared the same bathroom, and every morning after mom woke us up for school I would lay in bed and wait to here my brothers feet hit the floor (my room was downstairs) and I would race out of bed to make into the bathroom just in time to slam the door in his face. You’d think he would catch on, but not once did he ever beat me there. My other brother, he didn’t even wake up until the 2nd or 3rd call.

SHARE ME! My younger brother and I once shared a small cabin room with my grandmother on a cruise ship for a week. My grandmother was not ready for some sibling rivalry and fights over the television. And we were not ready for how early she went to bed and then woke up!

SHARE ME! I learned what a suppository was shortly after my husband and I got married and we were spending Christmas with the in-laws. I mistakenly thought a suppository and a supplement (like a vitamin) were one and the same thing (I have no idea how I was 25 years old and thought this was true). So my mother-in-law talked to me about her HUGE suppositories and how her husband had to help her with them. I wasn’t sure what she meant by that, so I helpfully suggested that she try a SPOONFUL OF APPLESAUCE. Because, you know, that’s how I take my vitamins. She looked at me strange but then changed the subject, because I didn’t even realize my mistake until getting ready for bed that night when I innocently asked my husband how it would be possible for his dad to help his mom take her suppository… Needless to say, it was an educational conversation and a very embarrassing holiday with the in-laws.

A few weeks ago, my cousin and I had our little baby girls together on a blanket with some toys. We said oh cute, they’re learning to share (they’re both about 6 months old)! A few minutes later my cousins baby sweetly put her arm around my baby, then proceeded to push her down and out of the way so she could have the toy they were both loving! It was the funniest lesson in ‘sharing’ so far! Lol

Sometimes sharing can lead to (accidental) stealing… I borrowed a book called The Book Thief from a friend of mine, who had borrowed it from another mutual friend, etc and managed to hold onto it for nearly a year before returning because it was just. so. good. I read it at least 4 times before returning it and finally buying my own copy.

SHARE ME! I always keep an extra pair of flip flops at home in case I have a friend over who wants to go swimming, or just wants to hang out, and get some sun with me at our community pool, in case she forgot her flip flops. They are also great for the last minute manicure or pedicure!
