Good news – the prize pot is now up to over $500! Even better news (at least for one lucky person) random.org has selected our winner as… Karina (who notes that both teaching and learning to share is hard, just ask her kiddos). Congrats Karina!
As we mentioned last week along with our curator collection, Joss & Main offers small referral fees in the form of store credit to anyone who refers someone who makes a purchase, but we wanted to pay those forward. So instead of accepting the referral fees, we saved all of those credits up in a separate “gift account” so we could dish ‘em out in a big fat giveaway for one lucky reader this week. Oh and Joss & Main kindly donated $100 to get things rolling (and to ensure that we didn’t have nada to give away if no one signed up, haha). But guess what? It earned over $300 worth of referral credits! So if you add in the $100 from Joss & Main, the prize pot is up to over $400 for one lucky winner to spend on whatever they’d like!
- PRIZE: Ownership of the special Joss & Main referral account that we’ve set up, which has an account credit of $430!
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SHARE ME” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: … a funny / touching / harrowing sharing story. Maybe about the time you had to share a hotel room with your boss on a business trip? Or the challenges of teaching your kids to share? Or a memory of when you and your siblings shared a bathroom / car / wardrobe growing up?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, April 4th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: The lower 48 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Joss & Main.

I had many unpleasant “sharing” times involving sharing a room in college… Very unpleasant.

Being one of 4 daughters, I always ended up sharing everything and wearing hand-me-downs. Once we got older, I came up with a rule…if it still had tags on it, it was off limits and couldn’t be borrowed until the tags were snipped I wore it first….Lets just say Im still really good at wearing clothes and discretely hiding the tags ;) who knows when my sisters are going to raid my closet, even as adults now. :)

SHARE ME! I shared a bedroom (and double bed) with my sister throughout our childhood, until our brother headed off to college. I actually felt pretty lonely after she “moved out.” :-)

The other day my daughter (2 1/2) watched my husband walk out the door to work. Then, she turned to me and said, “That’s my best friend Dada.” She is just too cute.

Share Me! I had to share a hotel room with a new friend when I first moved down south. Luckily she informed me before we went out of town that she snored. I was prepared with ear plugs or otherwise I would have never last the trip!

While traveling abroad, two friends and I decided to go camping, even though the weather was rainy and cold and we had only two sleeping bags to share between the three of us. Needless to say, it was not a very well thought out plan. We were so cold we spent the night in the car!

When my brothers and I were younger, we would, without fail, throw up during car trips. I have many memories of pulling into the rest stop and one of us- ahem- losing our lunches. If I were my parents, I would probably resolve to stay home until we were old enough to drive ourselves, but to their credit they still took us places.

Oh man. Teaching kids to share is the hardest! But that day when you witness your child graciously hand over a toy is worth the work!

This is probably narcissistic but I think my husband and I are heart-touching. He always supports me in every endeavor and encourages me to explore. I always strive to make sure I do the same for him. We recently figured out he has Asperger’s which clarified so many things for him and myself. Sometimes now he’ll ask me if I still love him even though [insert Asperger trait e.g. he can’t comfort me] like “normal” people can, and I tell him truthfully that I do because I know he loves me and I love him.

SHARE ME! I used to struggle to “share” my bed with my Basset Hound Mr. Bojangles because he would sleep horizontally across the bed, and from nose to tail he’s gotta be like 4 feet long. But now we can share happily because he’s learned to sleep with his head on the pillow like a human. He even gets under the covers and sometimes sort of “spoons” (he’s always the little spoon). LOL. Our relationship is totally healthy and not weird at all. :)

SHARE ME! This is terrible, but I have the faint memory of sharing the potty with my brother when we were little. Being a girl, I would scoot over enough for him to have some room for aim. I’m sure my mother did NOT know about this!

SHARE ME! I’m proud that we’ve successfully taught our 18 month old to share. She shares everything, happily. We’ve had a policy since the beginning of not taking anything out of her hands unless it poses a risk (glass vase, knife, ant-killing spray, etc.) in an effort to make her feel like she has some control and ownership over things and to avoid her becoming possessive. I think it’s worked like a charm! Since things are rarely taken away from her, she doesn’t hold on to them nearly as tightly and is very willing to give them up and share with others. :)

Though I grew up with a younger sister, I am a terrible sharer. She’s just enough younger than me that I could even refuse to share top billing when we reenacted Disney movies – so while I got to be Belle, poor Amy was always Lafou or Gaston. She still holds it against me (and has all their lines memorized!)

Last year, my husband and I shared a hotel room with his sister on a trip to California. It was a huge mistake and the trip did not go well. We learned that sharing hotel rooms is not always a good thing, even if it does save a little cash in the long run. Spending the extra money would have been well worth it! Hmm…I guess that wasn’t heartfelt or touching, but I’m still bitter about the whole thing. Haha!

I’m an only child so I’m probably not the best at sharing, haha. But honestly, about 8 years ago my best friend of 20 years was in an abusive relationship. When she finally left him she had to start from scratch, so I insisted that she come stay in my studio apartment in Manhattan. We shared a lot for those three months, including my bed. That’s what friends are for, and I’d do it again in a second. :)

Right after I got married, learning to share a bed with someone was an interesting transition. I once woke up in the morning to find my husband asleep on the floor. He had stayed up late the night before and was so afraid of waking me up that he decided to sleep on the floor instead. Fortunately, that phase of being painfully nice to each other didn’t last past the first month of marriage.

SHARE ME! I can’t forget the night I spent one hot summer in Nepal, when two of my friends and I all slept in the same room in a house in the countryside, on beds which were clearly not made for people much more than five feet tall, and both friends fighting over the ceiling fan, which was on the same switch as the overhead light!
