Good news – the prize pot is now up to over $500! Even better news (at least for one lucky person) random.org has selected our winner as… Karina (who notes that both teaching and learning to share is hard, just ask her kiddos). Congrats Karina!
As we mentioned last week along with our curator collection, Joss & Main offers small referral fees in the form of store credit to anyone who refers someone who makes a purchase, but we wanted to pay those forward. So instead of accepting the referral fees, we saved all of those credits up in a separate “gift account” so we could dish ‘em out in a big fat giveaway for one lucky reader this week. Oh and Joss & Main kindly donated $100 to get things rolling (and to ensure that we didn’t have nada to give away if no one signed up, haha). But guess what? It earned over $300 worth of referral credits! So if you add in the $100 from Joss & Main, the prize pot is up to over $400 for one lucky winner to spend on whatever they’d like!
- PRIZE: Ownership of the special Joss & Main referral account that we’ve set up, which has an account credit of $430!
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SHARE ME” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: … a funny / touching / harrowing sharing story. Maybe about the time you had to share a hotel room with your boss on a business trip? Or the challenges of teaching your kids to share? Or a memory of when you and your siblings shared a bathroom / car / wardrobe growing up?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, April 4th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: The lower 48 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Joss & Main.

I am a very loud, outgoing individual… who was placed to share a freshman dorm room with a really quiet, super introvert freshman year at Virginia Tech (don’t hate John!). It was so hard for me not to try and pry every second of her day out of her… but we were eventually able to bond over having to constantly put on sunscreen (booo pale skin & freckles!) and my fish that constantly insisted on jumping out of his tank :)

I used to share a queen size bed with my sister, who is 4 year older than me. When she got old enough to shave her legs, she used to torture me with the stubble when she would go days without shaving.

My daughter, age 5, has a serious sweet tooth. Like, the kid will not venture from thw birthday cake table ata party. Lest she miss a chance to swipe some icing…But every time she has a treat from a party or school, she always shares with her 4- year- old brother. That is saying something!

Hmm. The second time my now-husband met my parents, it was to share a hotel room with them and me at a conference. He slept on the floor at the foot of my bed, with them in the other double bed in the room. The awkwardness of this sharing was compounded by the fact that his luggage failed to arrive for two days and he had to sleep in his clothes (because who wants to sleep in one’s skivvies in front of your girlfriend’s parents)?
Sigh. I’m grateful I didn’t lose him at that point! ;)

First, I just want to say how much I love this blog. Now that I own my first house, it has given me so much inspiration for DIY projects.
Anyway, on to the bonus question:
I remember growing up that my parents made me and my 2 brothers change rooms every few years, so I frequently shared a room with one, or got my own room for a bit, and then went back to sharing a room. This went on until high school, when they gave up trying to have an “office” and then we finally all got our own rooms. Yay! Now I look back on it and realize that it probably prevented a lot of fighting about who’s room was who’s and why did so-and-so get the bigger room, etc. Pretty smart.

When I was a sophomore and junior in college, my girlfriends and I decided to save some money by tripling in an apartment. We had one bunk bed and a lofted bed to be able to fit three beds and three desks. The two other girls shared the walk in closet and I got the hallway closet that my friend transformed with shelves and double rods. It was fun and I loved that closet, but boy is it nice to not be in that situation anymore!

When I was working at a government owned nuclear site as a subconsultant, I would plug my company’s laptop into the government network in order to have access to my work files. Apparently that’s illegal (even though we’d been doing it for almost a year). One day I walked to my desk to discover a group of men just staring at this laptop. I spent the rest of my day driving into town to have the hard drive wiped clean. They originally had wanted to just take the laptop. I feel like my name is on some government list now.

“SHARE ME!” When I was 23 or so, my extended family and I were singing ‘happy birthday’ to my dad. When it came time to blow out the candles, I blew them out without realizing it and then blamed my younger cousin who I legitimately thought was responsible :)

Growing up, we didn’t have a lot of money. Hand-me-downs are fine and I have no problem with them, but I only had an older brother, so I often times was stuck wear boy’s clothes. It definitely contributed to my tom-boy persona which would cause my mother to tell me how much I looked like a raggamuffin! Now a days, I’m a bit girlier, but still have enough of the boyish edge to make sure I’m not too frou-frou.

My high school boyfriend would relunctantly share his lunch with me. For reasons I cannot remember, I never bought/brought lunch and he ended up giving me bites of the most delicious sandwiches. I don’t think I earned any points with his mom, but he was a good sport.

I wish I had a funny story to tell but instead I’ll just give a tip (that many already probably do). My husband and I have a made a serious habit of sharing entrees at restaurants. We typically get two side salads and share one meal. Since we’ve gotten in the habit of doing this, any time we order two entrees we fill STUFFED TO THE MAX!!! This tickles us quite a bit because it gives us more options. We can (A.) save the extra money, or (B.) use it to allow us to order a drink or appetizer instead.
Regarding this giveaway: You guys really are too nice!!!

The funniest thing only EVER happened this weekend, while grocery shopping with my twin sons who are 16 months old. While checking out, we engaged with them a couple of times, and then we rolled out to our care. As we unloaded the groceries from the cart, we realized that they were being a bit too quiet in their little “car” part of the cart. Upon checking, we were surprised to find that we have quite the kleptos on our hands, as each was chewing on an in-wrapper Baby Ruth, and Jack had even popped his open. Since only one side of the cart was near the candy bar section, this means that Hudson had to have stolen a candy bar, passed it to his brother, and ganked another one for himself. The smiles on their faces showed us just how proud of themselves they were!

“Share Me” When I was little, my mom was very frugal so we didn’t get to eat out much but every once in a while she would take us to McDonalds and my sister and I would have to share a happy meal. We would each get half a hamburger, a few fries and then had to share the tiny drink it comes with. We would always fight over the toy :)

Share Me! I got to share a bed with my young son while we took a weekend trip this past weekend. The first night he kept us up with his coughing all night (a lovely cold that he had already shared with me, which is why I got to share the bed with him) and the second night he kept me up by grinding his teeth all night and sleeping sideways so that he could kick me. Good memories.

Growing up, my family of five lived in a house with 1.5 baths, which means that we all shared 1 shower. Somehow this posed no problems until now, when my parents are selling their house. Funny how times change!

Some of my best memories are of me and my sister sharing headphones and a walkman in the back seat of the car during road trips. We’d lip sync to boy bands and make faces and have crazy giggle fests for hours on the road. This past winter we went on another road trip with the fam and shared headphones and an ipod… it had been nearly 10 years but it was just as much fun!!

SHARE ME! this is a funny sharing story… Me and my little sister growing up did not get along very well (we are BFFs now though) and I was a freshman in high school I think and it was pizza night with the family. Well, I had only eaten one piece so far, and “dibbsed” the last piece. My sister licked her hand and slapped it on the last piece of pizza and asked me if I still wanted it. We were not very good at sharing. haha

When I was little, my younger sister and I were at vacation bible school and there was a playground with a giant tire that was half stuck in the ground, that everyone loved climbing on/in/around. Well my sister came up to me crying one of the days, saying the the boys wouldn’t let her play on the tire. So I marched my teeny little behind (seriously, I was a bitty little thing until about 6th grade) over to those boys and told them they had to share that tire with everyone. It must have left an impression, because the next day, that group of boys came up to me and said all serious and apologetic, that they were “being good” and taking turns and playing nice with everyone on the tire. Apparently I had a bossy demanding presence even as a little squirt! ;)
