Good news – the prize pot is now up to over $500! Even better news (at least for one lucky person) random.org has selected our winner as… Karina (who notes that both teaching and learning to share is hard, just ask her kiddos). Congrats Karina!
As we mentioned last week along with our curator collection, Joss & Main offers small referral fees in the form of store credit to anyone who refers someone who makes a purchase, but we wanted to pay those forward. So instead of accepting the referral fees, we saved all of those credits up in a separate “gift account” so we could dish ‘em out in a big fat giveaway for one lucky reader this week. Oh and Joss & Main kindly donated $100 to get things rolling (and to ensure that we didn’t have nada to give away if no one signed up, haha). But guess what? It earned over $300 worth of referral credits! So if you add in the $100 from Joss & Main, the prize pot is up to over $400 for one lucky winner to spend on whatever they’d like!
- PRIZE: Ownership of the special Joss & Main referral account that we’ve set up, which has an account credit of $430!
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SHARE ME” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: … a funny / touching / harrowing sharing story. Maybe about the time you had to share a hotel room with your boss on a business trip? Or the challenges of teaching your kids to share? Or a memory of when you and your siblings shared a bathroom / car / wardrobe growing up?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, April 4th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: The lower 48 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Joss & Main.

SHARE ME! During grad school I had to share a hotel room with my boss for a conference. She was about 10 years older than I was and was 7 months pregnant. I got the shock of my life when my super pregnant boss walked out the bathroom stark naked and tried to start a conversation with me!

Sharing a bedroom with my sister was less-than-fun growing up. We joke about it now, but I know both of us harbored treacherous thoughts more than once!

My sister and I had to share a room after our parents divorced…one day her bf broke up with her. She came home threw my pillow out of the room, locked me out for three days, cried and played Sinead Oconner on repeat. I highly suggest separate rooms for kids.

My son is 11 months old and he is with his cousins (12 months old and 3 years old) during the day while I’m at work. Sharing is not a concept yet, so there is often pulling toys back and forth. So even though he’s an only child right now, he’s learning the skills early with his cousins!

I am engaged, but have been living with my now fiancé for 2.5 years. Every time I buy anything related to home furnishings I don’t tell him, and just use my own money. If he wanted something different he could buy it on his own, right? We just started sharing a bank account, and I think those days are now numbered.

SHARE ME! Since our 2nd child was born my husband and I have been working on our 5 yr old son to share with his sister. One day she had something he wanted, so he look at her and told her with a very serious voice, “Sissy you need to share!” We laughed so hard :)

Share me! When I was younger and had to share a room with my sister (for a short time), we totally did the tape-down-the-middle-of-the-floor strategy to divide the space. Didn’t work very well…

SHARE ME….had to kill a cockroach last week. For days, my 2 year old reminded me: “Bug on the wall.” “Bug scare Momma.” “Momma ‘AWWW!'” “Momma get ’em a bug.” So cute and funny to hear her mimic my scream.

Share me! My grandfather died of cancer 2 weeks ago and battled on and off for 8 years. Every time he saw my kids, who are now 4 and 5, he would get on his hands and knees to play with them. What a legacy he left – make the most of life and make that effort to really love the ones you love.

My brother and I shared a bathroom. He used to get bloody noses all the time. He would drip blood all over the place…hallway…bathroom floor…toilet…toilet paper holder…sink…and never clean it up! It was like a little road map of where he had been that day.

Ever since I learned how to bake, I’ve loved sharing my goodies with everyone I know. There is nothing more satisfying than whipping up something yummy and hearing how much people enjoy it. Such a good feeling! The one person who really benefits is my husband; he always teases how he gained the “newlywed 15” after my many baking sprees our first year of marriage…

While shopping at Lowe’s with my parents, my step-dad found a display of mini vise grips, loosely clipped them to his ears, and turned to me and said, “Krystal, this is how you get a man! You need to wear tools as jewelry!” I told him to stop being stupid, and then (because I thought you squeezed vise grips to release them) I nearly ended up taking his ears off. His eyes bugged out of his head like a cartoon character, his whole face turned purple with his scream, and then he took off down the aisle in a foul mood. I just stood there in shock the entire time. Later during the car ride home (during which he kept rubbing his ears that ended up being bruised for 3 months straight) he kept telling my mom, “I can’t believe this is the kid that makes straight A’s and has the IQ of a near genius!”

Ugh, I just swapped desks. It’s exciting. We have half cubicles with one long, shared desk space, and the guy I used to sit next to was a nasty dude. He left sticky, gunky crud on my side of the desk, continually migrating his junk onto my side, and using his outdoor voice to discuss, umm, bowel issues and food allergies. *barf* New guy is very excitingly nice.

SHARE ME! Jeeze, I’m having a hard time thinking of something…growing up I shared a bathroom with my two older brothers, which would be fine now, but was pretty awkward as I was going through the varying changes of adolescence!

Recently, my BIL who lives in dorms clogged his toilet. and this wasn’t your ordinary clog. It was the worst clog of the history. You know? the type that overflows and water starts going into the next room from the little space under the door? that type. this happened in the middle of the night, he didn’t have a plunger, so he had no choice but to use his fist as a plunger. i left a lot of details that makes this story painfully hilarious, but that’s the gist of it. i still picture him fisting the toilet attempting to stop it from the water overflowing!

Share me! Long ago I shared a room with my older sister and we would pretend sleep (key heavy breathing) when our dad came to check on us, only to get up and play by the glow of our nightlight moments later. And to think my parents never knew still makes us giggle.

SHARE ME! My senior year of college, I shared a tiny bedroom with three other girls so that our second tiny bedroom could be devoted to desks and studying at any time of night. I slept on a top bunk, head-to-head with another roommate on HER top bunk. She was dealing with some PTSD symptoms and had trouble falling asleep, so if we’d gone to bed at the same time, I would hold her hand between our beds, which helped her settle down. As soon as I could tell she’d fallen asleep, I’d drift right off too. I think I slept better that year than I ever had before or since!

When my husband and I first got married we were struggling financially so we ended up sharing a tiny 2 bedroom/1 bath apartment with 2 other friends. It was only 416 square feet and consisted 1 rv sized bathroom, a family room/foyer and a galley kitchen that connected the 2 closet sized bedrooms. Amazingly enough even after dealing with close quarters for a year we’re still all friends :-)

SHARE ME!! I shared a room with my baby sister growing up (she is 9 years younger than me), and every night since she was 9 months until I left to go to college (she was about to turn 9), she would sleep on top of me. I absolutely hated it at first, bc she was like a human heater, and she was 9 months; so she would drool all over my pj’s. I grew to absolutely love having my own little heater.

Share me! Once, while traveling in Argentina, host parents took myself and 3 other students to another city. Cars there are often very small, and 4 American girls are larger than the backseat can handle. We sat three across on the seat, with the 4th sort of laying across our laps!

When I was a kid I had to share a bathroom with my little brother. I used a shoelace to divide the counter space in half. Being a girl I had much more bathroom stuff, and being older I was much (MUCH) smarter (heh), and I’d move that shoestring over a few millimeters a day until I had about 3/4th of the counter on “my” side of the shoelace. :) It took him awhile to realize, but when he did he shoved allll of my stuff back over onto my half and thereafter watched the placement of that shoelace very carefully :)

In college I got an internship for the summer between my junior and senior years. End of junior year came and two days later I was on a plane. To Egypt. Call me crazy.
My first day in the office I, of course, got to meet all the people. There were a few Coptic Christians, but the majority of the staff were definitely Muslim. Devoutly Muslim, but thankfully not the type of people to push religion on other people. Everyone was completely comfortable working with everyone else. However, I couldn’t shake hands with any of the males. It was a part of their religion, and something I can completely respect.
I have to admit, though, that living in a foreign country for three months, not knowing the language, not having any friends, and not even being able to shake hands with 50% of the people I met got old. Real old. Real fast.
Fast forward three months and I stopped by the office on my way to the airport. I said farewell to my amazing mentor and she gave me a hug. I said farewell to my supervisor, and she gave me a hug. Then I said goodbye to one of the guys that I worked most closely with. I wasn’t expecting a handshake – devoutly Muslim, remember? Imagine my surprise when he pulled me in close for one of the best hugs ever.
Not only did he give me a hug, but he also whispered in my ear that he was so incredibly glad we met. Not only because I tried to learn Arabic and helped him with his English, not just because I was willing to try any crazy food he brought me, and not just because his fiancee and I became very good friends. On top of all that, he said, he was glad we met because I reminded him that just going through life isn’t enough, that one must constantly reach out to others with absolutely no judgment in their heart.
He said that I taught him not to judge others. And he, a devout Muslim, gave me, a single American female, a hug.

Speaking of sharing the love: When my siblings and I were growing up, it was a RARE, but oh-so-exciting treat to go through the drive-though at McD’s. I guess money was tight (though we kids never knew it), so mom and dad always ordered “1-2-3-4-5’s” as we called them. That was a milkshake to share. You got your turn to drink while they counted “1,2,3,4,5.” Then it was the next person’s turn. We thought they were wonderful treats… until we got a little older and realized what was at the bottom of that cup after everyone had taken a turn or two! Then I refused to have any unless I was the first one to drink. TO THIS DAY, I can NOT drink after anyone! – not even my husband! It grosses me out!
