Good news – the prize pot is now up to over $500! Even better news (at least for one lucky person) random.org has selected our winner as… Karina (who notes that both teaching and learning to share is hard, just ask her kiddos). Congrats Karina!
As we mentioned last week along with our curator collection, Joss & Main offers small referral fees in the form of store credit to anyone who refers someone who makes a purchase, but we wanted to pay those forward. So instead of accepting the referral fees, we saved all of those credits up in a separate “gift account” so we could dish ‘em out in a big fat giveaway for one lucky reader this week. Oh and Joss & Main kindly donated $100 to get things rolling (and to ensure that we didn’t have nada to give away if no one signed up, haha). But guess what? It earned over $300 worth of referral credits! So if you add in the $100 from Joss & Main, the prize pot is up to over $400 for one lucky winner to spend on whatever they’d like!
- PRIZE: Ownership of the special Joss & Main referral account that we’ve set up, which has an account credit of $430!
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “SHARE ME” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: … a funny / touching / harrowing sharing story. Maybe about the time you had to share a hotel room with your boss on a business trip? Or the challenges of teaching your kids to share? Or a memory of when you and your siblings shared a bathroom / car / wardrobe growing up?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, April 4th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: The lower 48 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Joss & Main.

My mother-in-law shared ONE bathroom with 8 siblings and her parents in a 5-bedroom house. There’s a part of me that wants my children to experience that…only experience it without me.

Share Me! I have an experience with sharing a hotel room. My husband (but we weren’t married then, still just dating) was graduating from basic military training. His mom, step-dad, and granny and all were all going to fly out for his ceremony. To cut down on costs we all shared 1 hotel room. Oh my goodness! Never again! All night long, every night, it was a contest on who could snore the loudest. The three of them had this deafening snoring symphony going on. I don’t share hotel rooms with them anymore!

SHARE ME! I shared the womb with my sister and to this day as adults, we will share a bed when we are together, no matter how small and despite the risk of an elbow-to-the-eye-socket. :)

SHARE ME! One of the things my mom says she is most proud of teaching us is the sentence, “It’s brand new and I’m not ready to share it yet.” It sounds sort of mean, but it helped my brothers and me understand when it’s appropriate to ask each other to share … certainly NOT immediately after the brand-new birthday toy came out of its box.

SHARE ME! I used to share the backseat of our family car on vacations with my two older brothers. This was before the time of video players or DVDs in cars! Heck the VCR wasn’t even commonplace in a house! We shared that seat… sometimes with imaginary lines down it that we were forbidden to cross if someone was grumpy. Our quality time together included endless games of “slap fight” with our hands and “bloody knuckles”… good times!
So I am less than patient with my three children when they are “over” the limitless Pixar selection that we travel with! I sound so old when I tell them about stories of traveling when I was young. “Why when I was a kid we didn’t even HAVE a DVD player in the car!” The look of horror is priceless!

“Share me…” I have 2 little girls ages 5 and 3.5 so sharing is a huge ongoing project in our house. Somedays are definitely better than others. My little one doesn’t share as well as the older one, but I think that is an age thing. One of the best sharing stories I have is when my oldest turned 5, she had a huge birthday party and received a plethora of gifts. She was very gracious and shared every single thing with her little sister. Even if she hadn’t playe swith it yet!!

My TWO sisters and I shared a bedroom growing up. With an age gap of 10 years, it was a tough go for everyone. But it taught us compromise like nothing else. That said, at least two of us have “personal bubbles” the size of space and don’t want anybody’s stuff anywhere near ours. Annnnd we label things compulsively.

SHARE ME!!!!ahhhh i have to share this story….when my little one, (who is now 19, was about 3 or 4 years old…the movie Matilda was released. we all watched it and loved it….well, the littlest princess REALLY liked it…and told me repeatedly to start calling her by the name, Matilda…which, i would say, but i really like your name, and she would insist, NO! please call me Matilda…so finally after much pressure from a toddler, i said, FINE! Matilda…she sat there for a few seconds and then said, ‘ok, so when are my secret powers going to arrive’??? lol. apparently, she thought that with the name, Matilda, she too, would be blessed with the same special powers of Matilda in the movie. Adorable. we still laugh about it. when Hailey just turned 19 in march, i sent her bday morning, text (she is away at college)…and i said, happy bday MATILDA….your secret powers should finally be arriving soon!!! we laugh so hard about this…the heartwarming things your children do… thanks for hosting an amazing giveaway! xo

Usually at my Gramma’s house it ends up being just all us girls.
I remember once my pregnant Aunt was in the tub with her 2 yr old daughter, my cousin was curling her hair, I was sitting on the radiator, and my Mum was sitting on the toilet ( lid down)
We were all just talking and laughing and Gramma came in and asked if we were having a “Potty Party” without her!
Gramma sold the house a few years ago and she passed last June but stories about stuff like this still make us all smile.

SHARE ME! … I’m warning in advance that this is a little crude … I once went on a road trip to my cousin’s wedding in Savannah, Ga. I had the ‘privilege’ of sharing a car with my Mother, Sister, and Grandmother. Talk about a lot of estrogen in a confined space. Needless to say, as much as I love each and one of them, I was absolutely dreading the car ride(s). However, I need to pick your brain on book writing dos and don’ts because of the stories I got from that trip. I have never laughed as hard or been as mortified as I was during that ride. A granddaughter should never have to hear what makes her grandmother ‘cream her jeans’ …

SHARE ME!! My father was one of 14 boys and grew up on a farm. He not only had to share a room, but a BED, with not one, but TWO of his brothers…..EVERY NIGHT!! They also only had one “bath night” where they all got bathed. It was an assembly line where they waited on the steps for their “turn” being washed. There was no privacy or playing and the water was never changed in between. Imagine being last in line!!! Do you come out dirtier than you went in? Made my dad the toughie he is today and never really gave me a leg to stand on when I whined about our modern conveniences!!

SHARE ME! Once I was at brunch with some newish acquaintances. I ordered, then another guy – a notoriously cheap guy – ordered and finished by saying, “I’ll just share some of your fries.”
I looked him straight in the eye and said, “No. If I wanted a HALF order of fries I would have ordered it that way.”
The other guy at the table was so impressed by my blunt straightforwardness that he married me.

SHARE ME! Growing up, my brother and I shared a bathroom and a variety of toys – the most highly sought after though, hands down had to be the “cool” legos, the ones that weren’t the standard solid green, blue, red or yellow. Anything that was transparent or sparkly was definitely better, thus fought over, OFTEN!

My best friend and I have a Polaroid photo that was taken of us at a conference. But since there is only one copy, we take turns posting it on our bulletin boards. I had it for a few months, and then I sent it to her with a little note, and so on and so forth!

SHARE ME. On a train with my good friend in Chile. They over sold the seats so there were people standing and sitting in the aisles for 5 hours. Did I mention the goats and chickens? And then the locomotive broke down and we were left in a desert town for a couple of hours until another locomotive could get to us. Good times !

Sharing hostels with random strangers in Europe. It was just another girlfriend and I, we were travelling through Ireland, Paris and London. In Paris we wound up in a brothel-esk hostel in a room with 16 guys who were all under the covers with the blankets up to their noses peering at us. We did not speak French and the hostel manager did not speak English so we had to rouse our only friend in the city at about midnight to please come tell this man that we would NOT be staying in this room! At another hostel we had much more of a mixed group of strangers but one man come in during the night and ate a sandwhich while starring at our friend. He then whispered “You look beautiful in the dark.”

I once had to share a twin bed with a “friend of a friend” (whom I barely knew) and her dog while on vacation at the beach one weekend. Apparently the house was overbooked and the only other solution would have been to sleep on the floor. I think I may have done just that for the 2nd half of the night!
