How does $500 towards new lighting for anyone in the world sound? We’ve added four new additions to our lighting collection at Shades of Light, so we figured a giveaway was a fun way to introduce them to you guys. Nearly a year and a half ago when we launched our first collection with them (more on that here), we knew we wanted a cool flush mount light (you know, to fight the good fight against boob lights everywhere), which was solved with the Diamond Ceiling Light. And our yearning for a geometric table lamp was remedied with the Metal Strap Lamp Base. We also added another larger scale hanging option to the mix (these geometric Diamond Lanterns) along with some urchin-like Spiky Pendants. And everything in the collection is still priced at $99 or less.
This giveaway is actually for $500 towards anything at Shades of Light, so you don’t have to spend it on lights – you can also choose from their rugs, furniture, mirrors, and beyond!
Please use the Rafflecopter widget below to enter (it might take a second to load, but it should eventually pop up below this paragraph). This giveaway is available to anyone in the world!

My husband & I are planning on selling our home next year & we are updating the house. We will need to install new lights in several areas, so this comes as a great time
Brent says
Two of the light fixtures in my apartment (one in the foyer, one in the hallway) are from the 1950’s. I’m not talking cool-kitschy-modern-fun 1950’s, but more of a rusty-brass-bug-and-dust-collection-apparatus. The glass in them casts a heinous yellow light no matter what variety of bulb I buy or how many times I scrub them. I’d even settle for builder-grade boob lights over these monstrosities! I’d LOVE to replace them, knowing I’d be able to take new ones with me when I move.
Karen Jerread says
I still have a few boob lights that need to be changed so this would be great.

This is not related to the post at all, but did you guys know a picture of your blog is on the SnapWidget website?! http://snapwidget.com/

This giveaway would come at a perfect time- we close on our new house in a couple of weeks! We definitely need to do some updating!
leatitia says
omg want to win this so bad! I just bought my first house and none of the lights fit my taste. Your Shade of light collection is beautiful, I want to change all my fixtures for yours!
Melissa says
This is so exciting! Our family is moving to a new home next month. I already have my new octopus hook ready and a YHL light would be so lovely! I’m feeling lucky for this fab freebie… :)
Laura D. says
Oh, please, please pick me!! We need a new chandelier in our dining room and I don’t think the hubby would find it justifiable to buy the one I want (here: http://www.shadesoflight.com/trellis-cage-ceiling-chandelier.html – SWOOON!!) – UNLESS of course, I had a gift card to buy it!!
amy says
Love these. We bought our first house in December and put in a really cool light fixture above our dining room table. We need another light in the living room (it’s open concept) and the diamond lantern light would go with the dining room light so well! The other diamond ceiling lights would then flow so well into the hallway which currently has three 1970s (in a bad way) lights.
So if I win, I know what I’m getting :)
Thanks for always hosting such amazing giveaways!!!
Robyn says
You’ve done it again! These lights are amazing!! I know what I’m ordering to replace all of the boob lights in my house now :)

We were just looking at lights the other day. We have a hideous semi-boob light in our kitchen and a weird sconce in the hall. Though we’re also in need of a new rug…
Buy All the Things!

I love the new flush mount light!
And just about everything else at Shades of Light ;)
Jamie says
Love your lights! but I am crying a little because what I really need are awesome wall sconces. I die a little inside every time I have to light up one of my hideous brassy seashell shaped sconces. Please design a fabulous wall sconce!
YoungHouseLove says
We’d love to! We worked on some that we ended up nixing (one was too pricey and one was weird looking – haha!) but we’d love to get back on the sconce horse, so to speak!

I have been on the HUNT for a flush-mounted ceiling light to replace the hideous one in our hallway. Nothing has felt right until I saw your Diamond Ceiling Light!! It’s exactly what I’ve been searching for and am so excited for the light (and for this search to finally BE OVER). THANK YOU!!
Kimba says
Oh, wow! Nothing could be more timely. I just renovated my kitchen and was looking for a light fixture that I could see through. I painted the back wall of the kitchen in chalkboard paint on which I’m going to write “Cherish the Lively Cook”. It was a sentence that popped up on the refrigerator poetry one day several years ago. I’ve been waiting all this time to use it but I want to be able to see it instead of some clunky chandelier with semi opaque shades. The pentagonal pendants may just do the trick! Of course, winning would be great too. This was a foreclosed property a year ago and I still have a lot of work to do on it.

Please design more flush mount lighting! Thanks. :)

Outfit details on Teddy’s adorable clothes would be a super fun tidbit to add to his photo project. You guys dress both kiddos in such cute, unique things!!
YoungHouseLove says
Thanks Courtney! Nearly everything he wears is from Old Navy, Baby Gap, or Target. The fox pants were an Etsy gift from a friend and the suspenders were from my mom (she got them in London) though!

Love them all!

So, I’ve been thinking about converting our bathroom boob light to a different flush mount light for a while now, and I love your diamond light… but my problem is that most of our current boob lights fit at least 2 60-watt bulbs. Particularly in our bathroom, where we have only the one light that has a total of 120 watts in it (plus a window that lets in a moderate amount of natural light), I’m trying to figure out if switching over to this light would be enough wattage… Does the fact that it’s bare bulb increase the amount of light that it gives out? I figure I would have to try it in the space first to really figure it out, but I’d love to know if anyone has experience replacing a higher wattage boob light with something like this!
YoungHouseLove says
We’ve noticed that bare bulbs do tend to put out a little more light than those with a shade assuming you’re comparing the same wattage since shades absorb some of the light, but it would only put out 60 watts, so that might not be enough for the whole bathroom if you use traditional bulbs. If you use a CFL or an LED you can usually get a lot more light without worrying about wattage though (for example, an energy saving bulb could emit the equivalent of 120 watts while only using 40 watts). Hope that makes sense! Anyone else have tips for Jessica?

I have to know if it is just a complete coincidence, or if your blog post title was chosen because you heard Sia (writer of the song) on Howard Stern today…?
YoungHouseLove says
Total coincidence – but I love Sia! What did she say on HS?

Heather M says
She had an interesting back story. See if you can find it online. Are you a Howard fan?
YoungHouseLove says
Thanks Heather! I don’t listen to his show, but I’ll have to see if I can find it online. I did see Sia on Ellen (well, in a youtube video of Ellen) and she sang with her back to the camera since she didn’t want to reveal her face. I thought it was so interesting!

Fingers crossed! I desperately need this. We saved up for our dream fixture for our stairwell…only to drop it while installing it, shattering it to pieces. Yes, there were tears.

I am I love with your lighting line!! Unfortunately I tried to place an order awhile ago and the shipping costs ended up being just as much as the lights themselves and I’m only in Canada! So disappointing :( Great giveaway for those that live close to this store!! :)

So sorry Krystal! We hear they rely on UPS international shipping rates, so here’s hoping they drop :)

Love the flush mount light! We just moved into our first house on Tuesday and I’m already scoping out some new flush mount options for a couple old fixtures…

Would love to see new lights in a house (not necessarily your house!) as they roll out. Suggestion for Shades of light perhaps?
YoungHouseLove says
Sure! We shot many from the first collection in our second house (you can see those when you scroll through the photos on their site) and would love to do that with the new lights too!

I’ll check out the drum shades, but if you do go forward with more designs (I hope!), then maybe tackling a chandelier-type light would be AMAZING. I would even pay $250 for a nice YHL/SOL chandelier.
I mean, Sia would love to swing from a YHL chandelier…

Haha, thanks Jamie!

Thanks for the chance to win!
I have a question for you. We are updating a bathroom that had gold metal fixtures. We want to have brushed nickel. Is there anything we can spray on the light fixture and faucet to get brushed nickel? Thanks for your help. You two seem to know all these things, and your home is beautiful!
YoungHouseLove says
I would go to Home Depot and look for Rustoleum’s Universal All-Surface spray paint and see if they have a brushed nickel finish. They have an oil-rubbed bronze finish that we’ve used with luck over gold metal. Hope it helps!

Eeeek! I love this giveaway, this is probably one of the giveaways I’ve been most excited about (other than the baby one you had a few weeks ago). We’re purchasing a new house (if the inspection goes well *fingers crossed*) and it has WAY outdated lights, they’re seriously terrible! I would LOVE to win this to update with some of these lights, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the diamond ceiling light!!
