This week’s giveaway comes from a site that so chock full o’ good stuff that it was a challenge to hone in on the perfect freebie items for this week. We’re talking about Artful Home, a virtual window into over a thousand artists’ studios that gives you access to 12,000+ original art pieces – from wall art and sculpture to furniture and accessories. It’s kinda like Etsy, but contributing artists are all professionals who are selected by a panel of art adjudicators.
So we sifted through the site and fell in love with several pillows and, since we couldn’t settle on just one, we’re letting this week’s lucky winner choose from the four pillows shown below: the nature-inspired linen pillows by Mariah Wren or the graphic, eye-chart pillow by Heather Lins. I know, tough decision, eh?
- PRIZE: Your choice of one of the four pillows shown above (valued at $90 – $95).
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the phrase “I HEART ART” and…
- BONUS QUESTION: Tell us your favorite piece of art currently in your home, whether it’s a piece of fine art made by a professional or fun art made by a preschooler.
- GIVEAWAY CLOSED: Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at 8pm EST
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One and only one this week.
- ELIGIBILITY: The prize ships to anywhere in the US and Canada.
- THE USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

I HEART ART!
My favorite piece of artwork is a painting that my horse created. Its called “Dog Paddling over to Chincoteague” because while the canvas was wet my dog tramped all over it. It reminds me of swimming in the ocean. You can see the painting here:

I found a pair of really old and tiny portraits of George and Martha Washington in my great-grandfather’s house and they are now hanging in my bathroom as part of a wall collage with a few other randoms. They’re a little weird but sometimes these things appeal to me that make no sense. ;)

My favorite piece of art is an original, framed stone carving of the word “Slainte!” (meaning “Good Health” in Gaelic) that I bought in a small town in Ireland called Kinsale. Not only does it look awesome in my living room, it reminds me of one of my favorite places in the world.

My favorite piece of art in my home right now is technically not art – it’s a picture frame but I consider it art itself! It’s a baby blue frame that is very ornately carved that my boyfriend got me for my birthday from Patina (a Minnesota store full of amazingly cute things). I still haven’t put a picture in it but have it on display because it is so beautiful!

I Heart Art!!! My favorite piece of “art” is 2 huge cork boards in my office. I painted the frames, covered the cork with fabric, and then hot-glued ribbon around the edges. They hang above my desk and hold my daughter’s artwork, favorite pictures, notes from friends, etc. Just looking at it makes me happy and it’s constantly evolving. LOVE it!

I HEART Art! My favorite piece of art in my home is a picture made out of shells gathered on the beaches of an island in the Galapagos as a child. My mother made the picture from the shells that we would bring her each day. This was back in 1961 when we lived on the island for 3 months. Each time I look at it, I remember the fantastic time I had there as a 10 year old child! There is quite a story with those shells!

My favorite piece is a little 3X5 painting of purple flowers on a beige background. The painting was done by a converted man in a Polish prison and brought to me by a Polish missionary. It is a great reminder of God’s forgiveness and how we saves us.

I HEART ART!!
My favorite piece of art in my house is a painting I did in the 3rd grade. It’s a still life of a fruit bowl, sitting on a table and the rest of the kitchen is in perspective in the background. It was chosen to compete in some state wide art competition in Virginia, and I represented my entire school district! I didn’t win, but I got to describe my art piece on public access television AND go to a swanky luncheon event at the Phillip Morris compound in Richmond. I still find it odd that a cigarette conglomerate took such an interest in children’s art. Who knows, maybe they were trying to get us as customers by giving us fancy art prizes.
