If you’re a busy mom like me – wait, let me start over. If you’re like me and hate grocery shopping, then this week’s giveaway is totally up your aisle. I’ve learned to enjoy cooking, but the chore of making a list, bleeding money at the grocery store and then coming home to find you’ve forgotten the cardamom still drives us to take-out more than we’d like. So imagine my delight when You’ve Got Supper entered our lives.
YGS was started by two busy moms right here in Richmond (holla) and basically does your weekly recipe planning AND grocery list making for you (double holla). Just sign up for their free weekly email for five easy recipe suggestions. Pick the ones you want to make (or add others from their archive) and YGS automatically generates a complete, printable shopping list for you. Basically, my lifesaver. And this week they’re giving away $100 in groceries to one of our lucky readers who just might need some lifesaving in the kitchen too.
We’ve been using them for a while now, and just last week we made three of their meals that we never tried before: Honey Chicken Kebabs, One-Pot Pork Tenderloin and Crispy Potatoes and Creamy Dreamy Mac and Cheese. Here’s that mac and cheese making Burger wish he were human:
And now for this week’s giveaway deets:
- PRIZE: $100 gift card to the grocery store of your choice courtesy of You’ve Got Supper

- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: Anywhere in the whole wide world!

We’ve taken to making pizzas or huevos rancheros on nights when we’re too busy to cook anything else. Breakfast for dinner is another favorite. Then there’s always Chinese take-out when you really can’t get off the couch…

I’ve recently started using the website allrecipes.com for new recipes, or to find recipes of things I’m craving…pumpkin chocolate chip cookies, anyone?

It’s about that time. . .
I love to try new recipes – so I’ll either grab a new veggie at the farmer’s market or find something unique and interesting on sale at the organic grocery, and take it from there. Best recent achievement/invention: Chipotle Chili. All it takes is 1/2 can of Chipotle Pepper in Adobe Sauce.

My favorite way to mix up dinner? When I’m feeling really lazy I make a good ol’ blue box macaroni and cheese and top it with Saracha sauce! mmm…

We keep a menu from every week with the grocery receipt attached – when we plan for the next week, we flip through a couple previous menus and pick and choose from each so that we don’t feel like we’re eating the same thing all of the time!

My SIL’s and MIL and I have a receipe blog that we each have access to so that we can share receipes that we each make and like. It is nice b/c we live in different areas and can easily pass the receipes on to eachother.

When we don’t know what to do for dinner, I have a number of super-easy and fast chicken recipes. Our favorite is chicken breasts smeared with barbecue sauce baked in a casserole dish with chicken broth. In only 30 minutes, you have delicious, moist chicken (yay protein!)

My favorite thing to do on Saturday mornings is to sit down with a cup of coffee and look through my cooking magazines and books for the week’s menu. We make at least 2 or 3 new recipes each week. The variety is great, but on lazy nights we pull out the frozen Trader Joe’s items!

I guess I mix it up by actually cooking! I’m a pretty decent cook, but live alone, so takeout is much easier a lot of days! I haven’t quite mastered that cooking for one thing.

I don’t have any tricks up my sleeve; we eat out most of the time because we live in a great neighborhood where the city’s best restaurants are within 3 blocks of our house. I have been trying to get my act together, though, and cook more frequently. I’m getting there. Baby steps!

I love to cook and try new recipes. A good switch up is trying new ethnic food recipes. But sometimes a good way to switch things up is just go out to eat!!

I WANT SUPPER!! (I’m really hungry!)
This has been a constant struggle in our house to not eat the same thing over & over. I’m a high school chemistry teacher and during the school year I am just too tired to make gourmet meals. Plus, my husband travels 3 days a week and on those nights it’s just me & our 5 year old.
We call our breakfast dinners “Backwards Night”. We put our shirts on backwards, we switch places at the table, and when we are done eating we say it’s almost time to wake up (instead of go to bed). At bedtime, we kiss and say “Good morning” instead of good night.

Seems like everybody loves it when their other half cooks, but I think I might be especially lucky. We pretty much take turns so when I cook we have things like pot roast or baked chicken, but on the rare nights my fiance (Geoff the chef) doesn’t work I’m treated to things like seared scallops with curried squash or pan fried halibut and sauteed spinach. It’s too bad he works so many nights, but it’s super special when he’s home!

Actually, thanks to YGS, I’ve got it quite often too (and they’re local for me also). :) My way to mix it up- Throw a dinner party occasionally. It gives me a chance to fix something a bit more fancy and I feel so much more grown up too. It also gives me a chance to try something new that I’ve wanted to try (like Tapas) and my friends also bring dishes so I’m not cooking everything. We like to decide on a theme and go from there with everyone bring a different part of the meal (appetizer, drink, main, sides and dessert).

My fiance and I will just cook up several different dishes (leftovers or stuff in the pantry) that traditionally wouldn’t seem to go together but it always turns out surprisingly yummy. Always my favorite dinners!

I like making pizza with frozen bread dough – you can put anything on it you have around. The bread dough is cheaper than designated pizza dough.

When I want to mix things up I make my husband cook! LOL. I make 90% of the meals in our house, so when I’m not feeling inspired, or need a little break I ask the hubs to take over. He usually makes something he enjoyed during his childhood- simple with lots of leftovers. My favorite!

For variety, I whine about there not being any variety. Usually this end with me cooking the same old stuff…again.
Occasionally, I’ll ask for a recipe from a friend, but I quickly get stuck in my rut again.
I’ll be giving your website recommendation a try.

As poor college students, my friends and I have dinner party Wednesdays… we all meet at one apartment, and everyone brings a little something! It’s a great way to have fun with everyone, and get a good cheap meal!

No matter how hard I try to create a menu and stick to it inevitably there is that one night with no plan. That is when we get creative with what is left in the fridge and pantry.

When I feel like dinner is getting predictable, I pull out the cookbook my Aunt wrote and open to a random page and pick something out. The recipes are mostly family recipes passed down, so I get to feel a little closer to my family then. :)

I’m pregnant, so at the moment I will eat pretty much anything. But when I want to mix it up (or run out of ideas) I use supercook.com – add whatever you have in the house or are craving and it will give you piles of recipes that you can make with what is already in the pantry.
